If you enter a new school district, the schools get about a dozen times better, because there's more money per student. They have newer textbooks, more modern campuses, more support for the arts (which are the first to go when there's no funding), and smaller class sizes. This last one in particular has a direct effect on learning.

I have often wondered why History text books need to be updated...why don't they just buy suppliments for what happened in the past few years? I mean, other than the revisionist history and trying to stomp out good things about The United States, etc., I don't remember history changing a whole helluva lot...

Same with math, I pretty much perform integration and differentiation the same way I learned it 20 years ago...

Am I missing something? I guess you can just replace text books as they wear out beyond usefulness. I think that would do two things, make the tree huggers happy (that we are using less trees) and the schools would be spending less money. Just a thought.

It isn't that people necessarily print that much. Consider this, if you let the printer sit out for a while without using it then the cartridge will dry up and viola, you need a new print cartridge. You usually discover this about the time you need to print your first e-ticket since the last concert you went to 6 months ago. Then you end up spending an extra 40 bucks on a cartridge because you wanted to save 10 dollars on having the ticket shipped to you.

"Being born wealthy is the path to success." BULLSHIT!! The successful in this country (the United States of America) have overwhelmingly worked for it! http://www.nytimes.com/books/first/s/stanley-milli onaire.html A statistic from the article - "Most of us have never felt at a disadvantage because we did not receive any inheritance. About 80 percent of us are first-generation affluent." The difference between millionaires (who have achieved it on their own merit) and those who bitch about our economic and societal injustices is that they do not take what they don't have given to them and make it a crutch for their lack of success! They have great ideas and instead of bitching about the patent system in the U.S. they actually do something about getting those ideas to market or doing what it takes to save and build a successful business. I am by no means a millionaire or even close, but I also know that I do not have the same desire/drive to do certain things that most millionaires do possess at this time in my life. I currently have other priorities. I really wish people would quit bitching about the inequities in the United States social-economic system and spend that time actually doing something productive to change their status. I will definitely argue that this is THE best country for ANYONE to change their status in society if they have the drive and desire to do so.

Check again. You can easily turn off WIndows Genuine Advantage and still get automatic updates. And NOT by hacking your Windows, but by legimately turning off the feature in IE with Managed Add-Ons. Check it out, you may learn something.
