Death valley Rally, Caveman Games, Skate or Die? Sonic 2 might've been a joke but the others weren't. I can see not liking some of those games but they savage their fair share of decent games just for the heck of it.
It's flawed for more reasons than that. They're comparing any type of video game playing to one type of movie watching. Compare apples to apples and see how many people go to the arcade vs. how many people go out to the movies. Or compare any type of video game playing to any type of movie watching. Hell, look at how many video games are rented vs. how many movies are rented. I'm no statistician, but I'd wager there is a larger section of the video store devoted to movies than to video games for a reason.
Yes, there are multiple sources of inspiration. Here the are:
-Ubik -The "Matrix world" speech by Dick -A random Jackie Chan movie -The back cover of a Dummies Guide to Eastern Philosophy -The glossary from the Shadowrun RPG
FTA: "when was the last time we had a blockbuster summer movie of any genre as downright entertaining as this one?"
Iron Man last year. IMHO, Iron Man spent a bit too much time focused on taking on and off the suit. Other than that, the special effects were great and fit in with the movie. I especially loved him getting out of captivity using the original suit.
Tabs and new windows are not mutually exclusive. I group my tabs just fine by having a separate window for each set of tabs. To me it makes a lot of sense since I can ALT-tab between subjects and CTRL-tab between tabs in that subject. I don't see their sidebar solution as being any better.
I'm just waiting for the average moviegoer to start complaining about how these upcoming Dick movies ripped off ideas from films like the Matrix, Truman Show, The Net, etc.
Have they been remodeling the McDonalds in your area? They have in ours. They're completely demolishing and rebuilding them. You know what is missing from the new ones? Playgrounds. 4 McDonalds in our area have lost their playgrounds in the past two or three years. IMHO, McDonalds is kid-friendly no more. At least we still have Chik-fil-a around here. They have playgrounds, are about as healthy as fast food will ever get, and have a kid night where children get a free ice cream cone.
Can't they just release their work as a patch to the ROM? Then they're not distributing the infringing IP themselves. They'd have to either leave artwork alone or create artwork from scratch but other than that, I'm not sure what Square could do about it. Get your own ROM, patch it, and play the Chrono sequel. Sound pretty straightforward to me but maybe I'm missing something.
If the cause isn't network-traffic-related, then why aren't those same interfering devices causing problems in rural areas? Even people in rural areas these days have microwaves and baby monitors.
Speaking of pent-up, there are kids old enough to smoke and buy porn who weren't alive when the last TOS Trek film was made. Even if you liked the TNG cast, getting to see those original characters back in action is something a lot of us really looked forward to and have wanted for a long time.
A lot of loyal fans are pissed and I get that. But somewhere along the way, Star Trek lost a lot of fans. No, they weren't loyal. They were increasingly dismayed by the direction the shows and films took. By the end of Enterprise, those former fans vastly outnumbered the loyal ones. It was time for a new direction. Your "fucked up" is every former fan of the show's "put right." Abrams put the Kirk/Spock/McCoy trifecta back in place. He overcame the issues surrounding replacing the aging and deceased original actors. He gave a premise for new, ongoing storylines. He changed enough of the primary characters' backgrounds to make them familiar yet give them some mystery and unexplored backstory. He even dropped the utterly stupid Temporal Prime Directive nonsense.
Rick Berman is gone. Trek catering only to the hardcore fan is gone with him.
2. Picard fans champion the drinking of hot tea and use words like "thusly." If there's a better argument for Kirk, I can't think of it.
On a more serious note, I like Picard. He's no Kirk, but there's no id or superego to keep Picard in check. To me the biggest problem with TNG was that Picard didn't have a peer. The closest he ever had was Pulaski but that only lasted one season. She was highly annoying without Picard around (or with Data around) but she was the only person who was ever really able to push Picard's buttons. As headstrong as they try to make Riker out to be, it would've been interesting if he spent more time at odds with Picard instead of fawning over him as much as he did. At least then his character would be interesting.
I also didn't care for the amount of time they spent on character development given that Worf and Data were the only characters to actually develop over the course of the series. TOS characters didn't exactly develop either but there wasn't any time spent trying to develop them.
And personally, I don't need a father figure character on the show to hold my hand through the philosophical questions raised. I thought about them whether or not Kirk did.
It annoys me to no end that I have to get up and click a stupid button to continue EVERY TIME an ABC online show goes to commercial. At least Hulu understands that people wanting to watch TV on the Internet might actually want to do so on their TV. I'll never visit ABC's online site again once those shows are up on Hulu.
Ok, I'll start by giving you $100. You can trade that $100 for what's behind Door #1, Door #2, or Door #3. Door #3 it is. Behind Door #1 is a brand new Datsun 280Z. Would you like to switch doors? No? Behind Door #2 is a weeklong trip to West Germany. Your prize behind Door #3 is recently spun off AOL. [Zonk music plays now.] Oh, I'm so sorry. Have a good day. Now I'll offer someone in the audience $100 if they have a hardboiled egg...
Maybe this movie will deviate from the norm but very rarely does Star Trek devote a ton of time to space battles. Why the hell are so many Star Trek games based on space battle? This would sorta make sense for a BSG game but for Star Trek, space exploration and exploring strange new worlds make up the bulk of the plot lines. I think that's why those who played 25th Anniversary love it so much. A Star Trek game actually felt like a game version of the show instead of some space sim with Star Trek intellectual property pasted on top of it. Can we please get another real Star Trek game?!
I too find the supreme irony in "mature" games being games that almost never appeal to actual mature adults. The people who have hijacked the "hardcore gamer" label are of the same cloth as the teens who stopped listening to KISS back when little kids started wearing KISS makeup at Halloween. They're deathly afraid of being labeled as kids and do whatever they can to avoid it, even if it means savaging a perfectly good console just because there are games on it that the rest of the family can enjoy.
I posted this elsewhere but think the Slashdot crowd might be more appreciative of it. I'm not sure exactly what hardcore is but here's a few games that aren't hardcore with reasons why (tip of hat to George Carlin for the base material):
-Wii Sports isn't hardcore because anyone can do it. My grandma can play Wii Sports. You don't see her on the cover of EGM.
-Some people think SF IV is hardcore but it's not because there's no chance of death, unless you hustle someone in an arcade in a rough neighborhood.
-Zelda isn't hardcore because you don't start out with a weapon and that goes against all hardcore logic.
-RE: Umbrella Chronicles isn't hardcore because you can't move around on your own. Anything that won't let you move on your own can't be hardcore.
-Bomberman Land isn't hardcore because it's a variation of Mario Party. All party games are a variation of Mario Party. Bomberman Land is subpar Mario Party played with too many unlockables and lack of fun games while wearing silly costumes.
-Wii Fit isn't hardcore because you can't use your arms. Any game where you can't use your arms isn't hardcore.
-Mario Galaxy isn't hardcore because Romanians are good at it.
I don't know about propane bottles, but CO2 bottles have to be checked periodically and recertified that they can hold air at the specified pressure. The tank itself doesn't go bad often but the control nozzle that screws into the tank will have to be replaced on occasion. The company I swap with handles that recertification. I presume if we were to go to a swap system for electric car batteries the company handled the swapping would be required to periodically make sure the batteries were tested and approved for safe and reliable usage.
Don't worry. They'll be the first against the wall when the Revolution comes.
Death valley Rally, Caveman Games, Skate or Die? Sonic 2 might've been a joke but the others weren't. I can see not liking some of those games but they savage their fair share of decent games just for the heck of it.
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a brick.

Wow. You saw all that? All I could see were a bunch of wavy lines...
Yes, there are multiple sources of inspiration. Here the are:

Yes it did have a "novel" plot. The novel's name was Ubik.

It was German. He was really saying: "The Star Trek, the..."

Please don't bring back the U-Force! It was the only peripheral worse than the Power Glove. Why don't you stay dead you bastard input device?
For once, I'm glad the Wii isn't getting a port of something.

Now listen, you queer, stop calling me a crypto-fascist or I will sock you in the face and you will stay plastered.
