Isn't this just millions of years of evolution at play? The only reason we are all here today is because our ancestors were successful in finding a mate and passing on their genetic information... and we simply are the product of that evolutionary background.
The fact that both males and females were tested, and only males showed this behaviour tends to confirm this. For reproduction, females must spend far, far more resources than males do (as my old ecology prof used to say, 'sperm are cheap'). They can therefore afford to be more selective when it comes to mates. Males, on the other hand, aren't assured of passing down their genes, thus the evolution of such behaviour.
I think that's more than a little bit premature. Sure, it seems like we can make them a little easier now in the lab... but as an earlier poster mentioned, we're going to need some pretty long lengths to streach into orbit. Nowhere have I heard how exactly the little fibres that are grown in the lab will be joined together *at the usual nanotube strength* over and over again to make these long lengths.
Won't the 'joints' between individual fibres be a weak point in the system, and since we're joining thousands (if not millions) of little tube lengths in the lab, won't that have a rather large impact on the actual strength of the tube (vs if it was actually one long continuous length)?
But what about for us up here in Canada? Anyone know of any good sites for Canadian weather? I usually start looking at the Weather Network (http://www.theweathernetwork.com) since it usually seems to be fairly accurate (at least in the short term!)
Are there any other really good weather sites for Canadian cities?

I wonder what kind of FAA regulations there would be for such a vehicle. Even if you did have your own personal landing strip for the car/plane/thing, I can't think that you'd be able to fly it just anywhere anytime. There would be flightpaths from other (commercial) airports to worry about... would you have to file a flight plan anytime you wanted to take off?
It shouldn't really matter if no damage can be proven to the people... I would think the Court should award punative damages to punish for the illegal disclosure, and hopefully 'encourage' them not to do such a thing again.
The campus arcade replaced a bunch of it's larger games (DDR and the like) and put in a few rows totaling 30 or so networked computers running CD, Starcraft, Warcraft, Wolf*, etc. It's amazing how busy the place has been since they made the switch. We're even getting high school kids that make the trip out here to play the games... it's funny: I would have thought that by now everyone has a semi-powerful computer and high speed cable connection at home. I guess not!
"Taito aims to sell 10,000 of the standalone game machines at $2,772 a unit."
At first I thought 'there's no way people would be willing to pay so much for a game', but then I realized that the intended market for the game is nostalgic baby boomers with a lot of disposible income... I'd bet they do end up selling out.
I only hope that a few make it to the local arcades - it would be so much better than that Dance Dance Crap.
I wonder if the Chinese (and maybe even the Russians) would be willing to go into a partnership with us for this. They've already said they want to place a man on the moon by 2020, and with Bush's recent indications that the US may be following suit, I'm sure a little cooperation wouldn't hurt.
Is there anything stopping California residents from taking a quick trip out of state, buying the little fishys, and then bringing them back home? I can't see how this ban will do much good with today's interstate commerce...
Back in the day, I remeber there being discussions that high speed (cable, ADSL, whathaveyou) would never catch on, and all the masses would want would be their dialups. My how times have changed.
I can only hope that this one will be availible in Canada. The Apple iTunes sounds really good, and I do *want* to pay for my music downloads, but right now it's just not possible. (Yes, i'm aware of that Canadian service, but the reviews seem to be mixed).
So, has anyone that they have sued actually decided not to settle and are mounting a vigorous defence? Has anything actually made it to court yet, or is it still exclusively a scare tactic?
That's what must have been powering their webserver...
I have a mental picture of a car pulled off on the side of the road, hood open, smoke coming from the engine...

Let's add another reason to the list of why I'm glad that US laws have no effect in Canada...

The controller looks way more like a Dreamcast controller than it does the old N64 one.

even bad TV is preferable to no TV at all I don't know... has he seen what the networks are showing these days???
Any plans to string a few lines up to Canada and connect our institutions up here?

Wow - two comments and the website is already getting slashdotted...

The whole "Apple is doomed" senerio seems to keep coming up despite never actually living up to promise...

God smod - I want my monkey man!
Maybe that's why those darned Vogons are so intent on building that hyperspace bypass here...
Maybe now parents will take some interest in what their children are doing, and actually parent instead of letting the television raise them.
Well, at least we men won't have to stop and ask for directions anymore either!
