"Actually, now that I think about it, the moment you hit a baseball, the ball momentarily compresses - could it's decompression (which happens in the milliseconds after it loses contact with the bat) cause it's 'speed' to increase?"
Never thought of the compression, but the author also said it could be accelerating when the person catches the ball, and I doubt that the person that catches the ball is nanoseconds away or however long it takes to decompress.
wee need this in order to make our games more realistic.
In one of the many links. "The ball is still traveling along an almost straight line, and it may even still be accelerating."
Now I understand that when a ball slows down, its accelerating in a negative direction (Depending on your view I guess). But i'm pretty sure they are talking about the ball going faster and faster as it travels. With my limitied knowledge of physics, I don't see how a ball can just accelerate with no force applied to it.
"The Beam Control/Fire Control system will point, focus and fire the laser to provide sufficient energy to destroy the missile while it is still in the boost phase of flight, before separation of its warheads."
So this would be good only if we fly near the source of the missle? What about when the missle is already in fligth heading towards its target?
This robot doesn't look like it can hold a lot of beer.
It would be cool if this robot could restock itself and rotate the cold beers to the front and the warm ones to the back.
Anyone know anything about the robot from the Rocky 4 movie? Are their such things in the making?
I'm in the Air Force and have to remember so many different passwords. I have come up with my own password algorithm for choosing my password and changing them every 30 or 90 days.
Some passwords require only numbers, and others don't mind just letters. Some you have to have letters, numbers, symbol and at least one letter has to be capitalized, and of course can't contain a real word within it. All of these are very easy to remember if you have standard procedures for choosing them.
ie, take a word from whats on your desk say..."pavilionf170". Get rid of the vowels. "pvlnf170" now capitalize one letter all the time. "pVlnf170" . when you need to change passwords, just come up with an algorithm like rotating the letters, or incrementing a letter every time.
"Ms. Brown, a former journalist, said that faster speeds would probably entice her to spend even more time in front of the computer."
Probablly the same amount of time, but got to see a whole lot more.
Great, now we can all just pay $.99 cents to know the name of a song, then go download it for another $.99.
AT&T should target the p2p genre and get people to pay them for all the music they are stealing.
Seriously, I think this is a great idea. I never know the names of songs when I hear them.
Remember the article about the cop recording chat room conversations with the petifile? The petifile had no idea that he was being recoreded, no consent. I wonder if this guy can claim the same thing? Do you think that the fine pring on his contract said that he was being recorded?
I think that stealing is less of a crime than killing someone. But killing someone on accident even though he was speeding sucks. I bet 95% of drivers have tested their car speeding before, anyone of of them could have killed someone. I for one try hard not to do anything stupid in a car.
Remember when we had this talk about prefixes? Well does anyone think is bad to have google prefixes? GMail etc... It would be pretty cool to see the letter "G" be associated with Google. I think google should patent it.
"The mechanics would then contact the women directly to invite them over. "
That sounds like fun!
The only thing good I might see is if you can take a car to the garage, and replace the front in in minutes and drive out with a borrowed front end and still keep the messy car with all your stuff in it. So if something goes wrong witht he car, just bring it into the mechanic and replace the "bonnet".

Shouldn't paying $29.95 a year be enough just for the domain name? If you had to pay $10 dollars a year, that would be just like paying $39.95 for the domain name? People would still do it.
I hate it when people will ask questions about stuff that they could just look up in google after the meeting. As long as you understand the basic concepts of what they are talking about, go back and look up the stuff you weren't too clear on. Most meetings i've been to are useless. I could have read an email in about 2 minutes compared to an hour long meeting. I admit that some meetings are important though. Motivational meetings are good sometimes. Sometimes they try to have a motivational meeting just to motivate, and the speakers are not motivated.
WhatsAPro
Yeah, I can't wait to download stuff from the internet full of their own meta data. Isn't it true that search engines are not using meta data as much cause of false data? The OS having its own contacts list might seem like a good idea, but i can see many people trying to hack into it and mass mail all your friends.
Well, i'm in the air force, and drunk right now. But I Have never opened a.exe file or a.zip file or a . anything file. Their is no need to run those types of files. What can possibly be on a file with extention.exe that is useful to me? Ofcourse if your in a trust relationship with the person that sent you with the.exe file, why would you open the file? How many of you slashdotter open.exe files from people you don't know? I personaly, open one rarely, but from a trusted friend.
I took a calculus 2 class in florida and had to buy this thick ass book for like 120 bucks. Which covered Calc 1,2,3. When I moved to massachusetts and took 3d calc, they wanted me to buy this newer edition book, which was only calc 3, but exactly the same as the last part of my older book. I chose to just do the homework with the book I had, not one of the problems were different from the newer edition.
Can anyone explain why the rover is only supposed to last 90 days? Why would it only last that long? Satelites last longer than 90 days? You would think that something built for mars would last much longer. It was only designed for a half mile drive. What is wrong with this picture?
I give the guy some credit, he's pretty brave to fly there. Its kind of like how amatures try to send rockets into space, its a new frontier that the average person can't do. If US gives him fuel, who knows how many more planes will fly by and get stuck. That guy should have stocked lots of beer or something so he can trade.
People alwasy tell me that 120 GIG or 300 GIG will be too much to fill up. What if i wanted to watch the third episode of season 3 of the simpsons, do i have to load it in via a cd or dvd? I hate physically placing a cd or dvd in the slot and waiting for it to be read? No matter how fast or how much space you have, you will alwasy want more. Don't people know that by now? How come games come on multiple cd's and DVD movies usually have 1 disc for a movie, and one for the extra's. Can't they put them both on one disk? Oh well, it will be better in the future.
Oh yeah, I was taking out the trash at work the other day and my brown friend said, "Have you ever wondered why the trash dumpsters are alwasy brown, and the recycle dumpsters are white?" Maybe their is a deeper meaning?
As far as i know, you are not allowed to say cock pit in the military anymore, its now called a flight deck or something. What ever happened to sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me? and what if aliens come down and we make them into slaves. could we not use that word anymore for anything?

Fill in the blank. The colors of the US flag are red, _____, and blue?
Soon they will have games out for you eye to play. Like in the Next Generation star trek. We will all be part of it.

How hard is it to put Windows on a PC? put the disc in and follow the simple directions. Windows Installer is pretty simple.
If it wasn't for posts like this, I wouldn't have gotten a good laugh reading everyone's responses to your question. Thanks WhatsAPro
