I'm currently working on a commercial project and we're *thinking* of incorporating a GPL data charting component (I won't elaborate for non-disclosure reasons). If we create a wrapper for it and modify the original code to fix some bugs and/or integrate better with our system, do we then need to make ALL our code GPL? This would suck hard given that our project is currently measured in millions of LOC. I don't understand why we can't just slap in the Help->About: "We based some of this code from , thanks for that."
I can't see why the GPL and similar licenses can't just be "we don't claim ownership of this code, kudos to <author>."
It can autogenerate relatively strong passwords for you, and has an "autotype" feature where you can just press Ctrl+T on any login screen and it'll automatically log you in (assuming it follows the usual format of: username <tab> password <enter>).
Funny you should mention vampirism as I immediately thought that when I read the name of the article.
Hypothetical question for/. readers: If you had the choice of eternal life with the downside that you had to feed on human blood from time to time, would you?
Personally, hell yeah!
Actually I think you mean:
1 m^2 = 1 square metre
1 m^3 = 1 cubic metre
Otherwise you're still talking about 1 metre, you're just cubing the linear value.;)
I use the overlay heavily:(
I guess it wouldn't be too bad since I'll have multiple workspaces and could just spin my compiz fusion cube around or something.
Hopefully my Geforce 9800GX2 works alright...
I really, really, REALLY want to make a permanent move to linux, probably Ubuntu 64 at this stage. Really the only thing keeping me back is the fact that I mostly use my PC for games and if the Wine emulation is not 100%, I'd rather put up with Windows. Sure I could dual boot, and I did for a while, but it's not worth it when I'd have to reboot my machine all the freaking time as I move between "gaming" and "the rest".
I was using Ubuntu exclusively for about a fortnight when I stopped raiding (WoW) and thus didn't need to use Ventrilo. As soon as I got back into raiding I needed to have the WoW/Ventrilo setup happening, which I got working except for push-to-talk. WoW ran beautifully in Wine and I was very impressed, but without push-to-talk it was useless to me. Back to XP I go...:(
Additionally, I never tried running Steam with Wine, which would also be essential.
You mean they should *have* taken the Microsoft stance on things? Given Google's recent dealings (or lack of) with Microsoft it's my guess (and only speculation) that they're not that kind of corporation (and no, I'm not a Google "fanboi").
Thanks for the replies (some helpful, some trolling, but I'll take what I can get).
Moot point though, turns out we decided to write our own.
Yeah, he must have practiced his handwriting a lot to make it look like that font.

Token ring? But that means we don't get Terminators! How will we rid the world of Skynet now???

I keep this database and its master key close to my heart for emergencies.

Is that what they call it these days?

Is it possible to moderate an article itself as +1 Troll? If not, can we get that option added please, sysadmins? :)

Don't forget the Triple-Breasted-Whore of Eroticon 6, who once described Zaphod Beeblebrox as "The best bang since the Big One."
Wait... in one sentence you use both miles and kilometres... now I'm confused :/ :)
Damnit don't make me "google 1 mile in km"
My mum has five 70s, and my Dad has a little over twenty 60s :/
I play less WoW than my mum...

Microsoft already this, but they couldn't find one that didn't crash all the time. So they took what they had and called it Windows.

So nothing new then?
Touché ;)
Apparently I fail at English anyway...
*alliteration*
I read that then as "System Shock 1/System Shock 2"...
I'm thinking... Virgin are building Citadel Station now?

Ooh I love illiteration!

Even better, if they're lazy enough to just direct link, you may want to replace the "images/corporate_logo.jpg" file with "hello.jpg".
