I never saw Final Fantasy II and III (US) that expensive until years later when the SNES died out. Where were you shopping?

  2. Re:FInal Fantasy movie: Take 2 on Square Enix - The Next Generation? · · Score: 1

Well, don't forget that Advent Children is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy VII. Yes, I do think they have gotten it right this time, because I have talked to all my friends, avid video game freaks, who are just drooling at the possiblity of a sequel to FFVII, movie-form or game-form.

I have the "Making of..." book and I am quite sure it said something about Sakaguchi basing the whole Gaia idea on his own ideas on the afterlife.

However, I am looking forward to seeing Advent Children. Hopefully, people who haven't played FFVII, whatever rock they have been living under, will be able to follow it without the need of playing the game.

Well, make that two people. I actually liked the movie. Yes, it was cheesy at parts, I'll definetly admit that. However, it did have its good parts, and I did enjoy the animation quality.

I think it would have done better if they hadn't put the "Final Fantasy" name on it, but that's all in the past.

  4. Re:DQ/DW's popularity on Dragon Quest V Remake Hits Big In Japan · · Score: 1

Personally, I thought it was a pretty good game. Just that I haven't been able to find it since i joined and subsquently left the Navy. Just because it wasn't totally mind-boggling awesome, doesn't mean it BAD. I have played many a RPG that were more lackluster than Dragon Warrior VII. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest come to mind?

How much of the game did you play? If you played all the way through, sure I can see how you can say the story was lackluster.

I'll agree with everyone else, the first four Dragon Warriors were awesome, and I am very proud to say that I own each of their respective carts and I play them when I have the down time from college. I'll also admit that I have played the translate ROM of V and the partially translated ROM of VI, courtesy of Parital Translations and DeJap. Also, great games. Beautiful graphics, lush story.

However, seeing a generation of people who have grown up in Square's immense Final Fantasy universe and used to those games, battle system, graphics, etc... Enix presented those same things in a different format that is truly different from Final Fantasy.

Honestly, when you compare Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, it's just like comparing apples and oranges. Like for instance, Suikoden and Final Fantasy. Two great games, but their mechanics, graphics, stories and etc... are totally different. I know someone who hates Final Fantasy , but totally drools over Suikoden I-III.

And have you actually played any of the Super Famicom releases of the Dragon Warrior series?

Also, who said it was totally solid? there could be pockets of gas in the asteroid. the release of which could change the trajectory of the asteroid. ETC ETC... but you already took that into account, didnt you?

No, see, Duke Nukum was released in 1991, while Metal Slug wasn't released until 1996. However, if you are talking about Duke Nukem 3D, which was also released in 1996, albeit January 29th, you still could not say that Metal Slug X, which was released in 1999, was its its influence.

Same with the characters. Marco (one of the two guys you could pick in Metal Slug X, and the only character in Metal Slug), was invisioned way after Duke Nukum had been released.

So, either Duke Nukum influenced the Metal Slug series, or there was no influence at all.

Well, why bother commenting if this doesnt affect you? As an avid fan of Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin and the like, I am overjoyed to hear that I am able to hear some of the rare tracks.

To say that this isn't a major breakthrough is wrong. It's a record label, maybe not a HUGE record label that wants to rake in all the money it can get its grubby hands on, but a record label none the less. They are opening up the audio archives and allowing people to hear songs that probably only a few have heard.

And on that note, this is the perfect chance for people to preview these artists. Who knows, maybe they will start to like Intelligent Dance Music?
