  1. notepad on Best To-Do List Software? · · Score: 1

I actually do use notepad, you insensitive clod!

I used to use ms outlook, but the install was messed up somehow (bad memory?)... and I had to install office in a virtual machine to get my notes back.. exported them and I now read and edit them using notepad. It's easy and reliable.

Sure, I should patch up that memory but I don't have too many problems with my computer.

  2. firewire on Which RAID for a Personal Fileserver? · · Score: 1

Make your cold backup drive firewire if you want to simply plug it into another system to access your data.

Very critical data (in small quantities) gets quad redundancy- desktop, laptop, firewire drive, and usb keychain.

I tried to go a week without my data and facilitate public school classes at the same time... never again! I now have a 250gig firewire drive, confident that the chances of my laptop and desktop failing at the same time are relatively slim. The next step would be off site backup...

    Thanks, you insensitive clod!

That was a /. joke, in case you're new here. Anyway, one of the funniest things to me is when I hand someone my camera for a group picture or whatnot. The same thing happens every time - the photographer of the moment steps about 10ft away and then asks where the zoom is and how to use it.

    Gah, intelligence... so rare...

Around here Domino's likes to coat the thin crust pies with oregano. I don't mind a little bit, but I like a touch of oregano on my pizza - not a touch of pizza with my oregano! Seriously, there have been times when I couldn't see the actual pizza under the oregano.

My new favorite pizza is Courtside.

My old favorite, Santora's->Sedano's has been bought out by another local and now they make it "their way"... I fear I may never taste the original stuff again. Sorry about all the rambling.

  25. aural skills and music education on Computer Studies w/o Excessive Coding? · · Score: 1

There is a similiar situation with music education - people think their studies will be about children and playing instruments and whatnot. However, everyone is required to have an extensive background in music theory and aural skills.

Even though you could absolutely facilitate music education without knowing much theory or having a "good ear," developing that knowledge and skills will help you guide children in the earlier stages of musical development, even if you never actually use any of the advanced skills you developed in college.

It actually seems kinda strange - even though I now have extensive skills and knowledge, the manner in which I interact musically with people will actually have to be in such a way as if I did not have these skills or knowledge, because that is how students will relate to me musically.
