Yes, but we need to drag the masses kicking and screaming into the 64-bit world. It is in OUR interest...
32-bit is dead. Grandma doesnt need 8GB's of ram, but the industry as a whole needs to stop taking the easy route and catering only to the dumb myspace masses. It holds technology back.
Yup, most people dont even understand basic programming theory or flow at the most simplistic common layman like form. I'm not even talking about being able to code. Its like people think this stuff is all running on magic juice. The reality is that these OS's are so complex and people just dont really understand that. We take it for granted and its so nice to every once and while just acknowledge how amazing it is, that this stuff even works at all. Computers are pretty dam amazing things.
Too many folks think that a PC is basically a gui.. and they just cant fathom how things can wiggle themselves into all of the subssystems.
This is why we have adminstrators and users. Users, vary in experience but when we're talking the general public, we're talking about people who drive cars... NOT race car drivers... which we would be considered... but just your average mom and dad driver...
They dont quite understand how a car works... but they know just enough to operate it.
It will probably be quite a few generations before a larger majority of the public have a more technical understanding of how computers work. But even then we will have those... like drivers today that just use the car to get to work.
You're doing the right thing... and that does work very well. However most people are doing dumb things and make mistakes. Children do, Adults do, Grandma does...
You know what confused me about the Sega Saturn history is that I remember the Diamond brought out the EDGE cards which I swear came before the ATI Rage cards, but i would have to look that up for truth... Anyways I remember that Diamond advertised the Edge with Virtual Fighter from Sega. The Diamond Edge was the first Nvidia chip. Thats where i got mixed up... But it turns out SEGA did have a partnership with Nvidia during that period and Nv1 chips ended up in Sega's arcade boards.
Thats where my confusion is... I found an interesting article on the whole situation at :
After the Matrox Millenia (which was a great card) but a terrible 3D card at the time.... I pretty much gave up on Matrox for 3D and jumped on the voodoo bandwagon. Then i ended up with dev kit of the TNT2 and I've pretty much relied on Nvidia since, although i've owned some of the ATI cards and still own a fairly new one in one of my pcs. Nvidia does OpenGL much better, and I need OpenGL.
Anyways... that arcticle was an interesting refresher.
If i remember correctly, it was Diamond that first brought us the Diamond EDGE cards which used Nvidia's first 3d chip. It was the same chip used in the Sega Saturn.
I believe S3 Virge came after. As far as i can remember... the Diamond EDGE PC cards were the first 3D accelerator cards.... And that would make Nvidia first no?
After Edge flopped, Matrox gave us the Millenia cards which had terrible 3D support on them. Voodoo then took the entire market for a while until Nvidia launched the TNT2 which was a great card for its time.
Voodoo held on to the lead for a while longer but ultimately we all know what happened and Nvidia became king. ATI is still very solid but Nvidia has better opengl support and their cards just perform a lot better 3D animation production software.
"Even the so called "simplicity" of iTunes has been called to task. I now know of many other music managers that do a pretty good job of managing sound libraries. In fact, many (including Windows Media Player) can even sync with ANY standard USB Mass Storage Device. Considering that itunes cannot "monitor" a set of folders to see changes, and update a library on its own (you need to download ITLu to do that), it is poorer in many aspects.
Windows Media Player is ok, but it does not automatically manage your file system like iTunes does. Yes its true that iTunes does not monitor your file system for changes, because it doesnt need to.
The brilliance of iTunes is that it handles all of the file system stuff for you!!! Simply drag your music into itunes, and it reads the mp3 tags and automatically creates a directory structure based on artist/albums/
Windows Media Player is quite poor at organizing music. I dont like it at all. It performs far better than itunes. Itunes is the SLOWEST program on the planet in terms of scrolling through its database.
The other thing that itunes does that NO OTHER music player or organizer does... is iTunes has a "remember last position" feature which will remember where you pressed stop on an audio or video file. Its an option you can turn on or off per track.
This is required for podcasts and long form things such as tv and radio shows.
Windows Media player does not have this feature!!! Its such a brilliant feature and i just cant find it in any players such as WMP or Winamp.
iTunes isnt perfect... For example i have to convert all FLAC to Apple Lossless. I dont mind because theres really no difference, except one plays in itunes and my ipod, and the other doesnt:)
iTunes is so simple to use, so easy to manage your music because its all handled for you behind the scenes... All you need to do is make sure all of your songs are tagged nicely. AND THEY SHOULD BE.
I just cant use WMP. Yes it can monitor your folders... but that means you have to manage the folders by hand through the file explorer. Thats more work, and i have plenty of other things to do. So i drag and drop.... Itunes does it all for me.
You can shit on itunes all day and night... but from my experience its a very good program for organizing music, listening and syncing with of course ipods and iphones. Its a VERY well thought out system that works seamlessly.
Are there problems? Yes. Performance issues with scrolling through the song lists, and while the "smart playlists" are good, they are too simple and lack real sorting/filtering features.
Overall Apple has the iTunes thing really well done. It could be a lot better, but its simple and easy to use.
Somethings i would like to see are Smarter Playlists, The ability to store "portable" versions of lossless files, meaning having itunes intelligently store a 192 AAC (user definable quality setting of course) for any apple lossless file you decide you want to have on your ipod. I'd like it nice and seamless. I dont need to listen to the 192 AAC while at my desktop, but I do on my ipod for space saving and battery life issues.
The other major thing is performance. Itunes runs like shit on a quadcore intel system. That is unacceptable. I do 3d animation, i model characters will MILLIONS of polygons in programs like Zbrush which render them in realtime on my cpu... and Itunes can barely scroll through its music list?
Itunes is perhaps the worst peice of programming ever. I cant imagine just what supercomputer is required for iTunes to run smoothly... but it doesnt exist yet. I know that much.
Online bullshit hurt a company that trades stocks based on bullshit. Big fucking deal.
Apple, like many other companies that are traded publicly depend on bullshit news to drive their stock value up. I'll simply chalk this one up for the good guys, because it hurt Apple's stock value.
If there is one lesson that we all need to learn... Its that an economy that runs on bullshit, is wrong and will fail in time. And that is why our government is handing out 840 billion dollars in corporate. We run on bullshit, we legislate based on bullshit... the entire thing is one big Wizard Of Oz scenario. Its all a giant pile of shit behind the curtain.
Fuck truth... bet on bullshit to win.
While i love FIOS's service (that is until the day they decide to cap/throttle and fuck over the customer)...
Verizon is doing this as well on FIOS. Everytime you put in a bad address in a browser window, Verizon's google like page shows up suggesting things.
This kind of scares me. I'm not sure how far they will take this idea. What if they start filtering domains from users so they cant get to them, and suggest others... or perhaps an ISP's own service or partner service? That sounds scary.
Comcast is just another corrupt American business that rips off our citizens and uses our government to legalize and enforce their never ending blood sucking existence.
Broadband is just that... and if you can not provide it... I hope your company dies a swift death so that another more serious business can move in and do the right thing.
Fuck comcast. Every 15 minutes its going to check to see who is using the bandwidth and then limit that person? What if no one else is using that bandwidth? Can that person who is using it without being limited?
This is all silly nonsense. The fact of the matter is Comcast cant fucking upgrade their network, and the consumers are fucked because many of them are forced to use comcast thanks to regional cable monopolies.
Comcast knows this. Comcast is avoiding the reality, which is bandwidth demands will always increase. If they cant keep up with the demand, then fuck em, die burn. Dont worry Comcast, when you're company goes broke, the government will bail you out, so keep raping the costumers and do nothing now... in the end it will cost the company nothing because the gov will simply hand over our tax dollars to you... because heaven forbid a giant corporation that provides shitty service dare go out of business. Where will we get our "Dancing with the Stars" and Porn?
Avoid Comcast at all costs. They are big corporate babies that cant hack it in the internet world.
Its a simple formula really. If broadband company cant provide enough broadband.... said broadband company is not a broadband company. It is a dwindling relic of a failed business that refuses to adjust to market demand.
Keep fighting the forces of nature Comcast, i'm sure you will win.
Thats how comedy works. If anyone isnt familiar with the process... a comedian spends time from the start trying to get a good 5 minutes of solid jokes... then from there they work to 15 good minutes... and then to a half hour.... then to an hour. They build up a library of good, successful humor. They work through trial and error as they work clubs, noting what works what doesnt.
A comic doesnt just get a TV show. A comic's half our of material is reviewed by a producer, perhaps from the tonight show, or a network show. If the comedian doesnt have enough material, the producers generally say "i like what you're doing, your style, character... your jokes but you need a good solid hour. When you get a good solid hour... We might have a spot for you on the tonight show"
Of course no one gets an hour on the tonight show, but the producers like to pick and chose your jokes... so they need a certain amount to pick from. Sometimes they let you do what you want.. and sometimes you just need a good half hour of jokes... but the point is... if you havent built a library of jokes that "work"... they think you're too green for prime time.
Jerry, and Larry David, had been comics for a while. Larry was a writer on SNL... Jerry had less experience... but had an act... it was fleshed out, he was fine tuned... and the networks come to you with the idea that "we like what we saw in your act, and i think it could work"
So yes the show reflects their comedy persona... and material.
In Larry and Jerry's case, they had gone back and forth with the networks before signing a deal, they proposed script ideas etc. This is all common place with comedians when they reach a certain level.
Pretty much every comic on TV went through this process... like Steven Wright, Bill Hicks, Louie C.K., Jim Norton, Patrice Oneal, Dennis Leary, Lenny Clark, Chris Rock.... etc
They all work their material, fine tune it... and the networks (cable and the major 3) take notice, or are notified by agents that so and so is hot.
Its a process. You just dont end up on TV one day with a new idea. Its an evolution in a comedians life. Many comics arent keen on the sitcom thing because.. often they suck. In the case of Sienfeld... it was brilliant and well respected... but in the case of Full House... not so:) Yet Bob Sagat is a funny fucking man. So sitcoms arent quite the goal anymore, perhaps movies... but definitely the tonight show, letterman and HBO are goals for most comics
Thats one way, but i think its a lot easier to maintain the CD, than get rip artists out of the grips of RIAA.
FLAC is a great distribution format for quality audio. It would be GREAT to get to the point where artists distro their own music through their own websites (thats how it really should be)
The Artists do not need the RIAA taking cuts from their hard work, and at the same time... hunting down the fans.
The CD is the best source of quality audio right now. Vinyl too but its too rare.
I'm just saying in the face of NEW DRM schemes.... I'll take the old trusty CD because I'm not a consumer who feels we should buy into newer technology that does nothing but lesson quality and limit freedom of use.
and that is why we're a fucked up country, you're ignorance is hidden anonymously because you're a coward.
Look if you want a country where you cant criticize it... then my friend, you are the one who needs to wear the towel on your head. I for one dont want that kind of country. Besides, towels on your head look silly.
Just buy CD's and do what you want with it. Encode it to Flac, Apple Lossless.... etc... copy the disc to a new cd... no DRM no Nothing.
If we let the CD die, we're in trouble. I dont want compressed to shit music. I like my uncompressed audio because i can convert it to any format i want.
The CD is key to our freedom. If everything goes the way of downloadable lossy compressed file formats, we will have lost quality for convience... and the freedom to do with our music as we please.
Buy a CD today. Or atleast start downloading FLAC, APPLE LOSSLESS, and ISOs instead of MP3 and AAC;)
Your advice is very helpful but i must add this.... Everyone should keep their money and valuables stored in their assholes. Perhaps storing a USB flash drive in your asshole is a good idea as well. This way if your computers are taken, you will have your evidence stored in your ass. No cop will think to look there. Well not for 5 years maybe. But i'm sure once they build the prison bars around our houses, and force us to build mandatory solar paneling on our roofs.... we will probably have ass cavity searches at that point.
Well look, i dont know about you, but i trust my American Rulers. They know better. They respresent us, so i'm very confident that my rights will be upheld and i can safely go on ignoring government and not being involved with the process at all. They'll take care of it for me.
The democrats have nothing to do with this. Its corporate bullshit as usual, and any republican would easily bend over backwards and take a dick by rich corporations because hey "that's their base"
Its all about bullshit. Committee hearings are formal, public manifastations of behind the scenes lobbying. Its all a dog and pony show. Its a 4th grade play. Its nothing of meaning. It is ALL about "hey look we're doing the right thing by having a committee hearing to learn about this issue".... but its all bullshit because its just for public record, via c-span etc.
Their minds are made up. Most of are out of touch of technology and beleive whatever is told to them, and the amount of hard cash they get.... you know the cash they store in their freezers...
Its THAT stuff that makes laws. Not committee hearings.
Kubrick was right... "Its all a huge shit sandwhich and we're all gonna have to take a bite"
Why do you fucking stupid ass people keep voting for republicans and democrats?! WHY? What the fuck do you expect? Nothing is going to change unless we get rid of these people. That means putting in NEW people, not associated with these parties into office.
VOTE for independent candidates, get your ass out there... and do something.
Sitting on slashdot and writing a bitch comment, or an intelligent one... aint going do it folks!
Get the fuck out there.... and get some new people elected. RUN yourself... I dont care, just do something other than vote for a republican or democrat, or anyone else that may have the same mindset, who's only interest it is, is to make money, and rule over you, at the cost of your freedom.
Oh this doesnt effect any of the politicians children who may be torrenting porn, or whatever else... They're above the law. You're not.
You're only option is to write all of tehse fuckers... and threaten them. Tell them "If you support this... you're out of office... You will not get my vote. I and others will make sure that you are not elected another term ever"
Then go VOTE for someone else already....
This wont change. America is a fucking shithole. I hate this country. It is so full of shit. You ever wonder why the rest of the world hates us? Because for years they've seen the bullshit clearly.... Everyone except England of course.... because England is fucking worse than us. And if you remember this little thing called the American Revolutionary War... We fought to rid ourselves of the English. Now a days, we just want to be like them.
The demo was kind of cool at first, but it quickly became boring. It was too repetitive and dull. It started off good, but then i realized its just about running around a large map running into the same badguys over and over.... pick a box up throw it.
Graphically, its pretty nice but the gameplay didnt have that special something.
32-bit has no future.
32-bit is dead. It should have been dead 4 years ago...
Any serious computer enthusiast or professional running a 32bit os on today's hardware should be ashamed. They're holding the industry back.
Yup, most people dont even understand basic programming theory or flow at the most simplistic common layman like form. I'm not even talking about being able to code. Comodo is great, but it does slow down your system a little.
I sincerely doubt that running 4 "security" programs has no performance impact on your computer. It does.
They may be lighter on your system than other solutions, but it certainly does effect performance.

Oh no! Stop, the words hurt... oh they hurt so much, especially fairy tale death threats from hypocrite religious writings.
I'm so fragile.
Thanks Sony.
I think the ad campaign should also include The Emergency Medical Hologram (Doctor)
Doctor: Why, 7, it appears you've gotten fatter.
7 of 9: Why would you say that?
Doctor: Well, all of my sensors are saying you're running much slower than last year.
7 of 9: But nobody liked me last year.
Doctor: Nonsense i've overheard the entire crew gossiping over how they all want to fuck you.
7 of 9: Oh! Do they really?
Doctor: No... I lied, like that time you bragged about your so called new security protocols.
7 of 9: But they were better.
Doctor: Yes they were better, but the ship's firewall made no sense.
7 of 9: Doctor... may i ask you something?
Doctor: Sure you can.
7 of 9: Will they give me another chance?
Doctor: Of course they will... Have you seen your tits?!

FUCK AMERICA. I'm tired of it.
The demo was kind of cool at first, but it quickly became boring. It was too repetitive and dull. It started off good, but then i realized its just about running around a large map running into the same badguys over and over.... pick a box up throw it.
Graphically, its pretty nice but the gameplay didnt have that special something.
