It is not a crap os. You dont have to plunk your hard-earned dollars to try out the os. You can install the dam thing for free for 30-days, or feel free to DL a pirated version, or test run one in a store.
Not everyone is saying its crap. Its just you have chosen to side with those that do, which is odd, since you have not even tried the OS.
Its probably the best windows OS yet. The security is better, the fact that finally we have a supported 64-bit windows OS is a godsend. XP64 was great but just not supported by hardware manufacturers.
Whatever you think of Vista, its still easier to use than linux and has more software AND it is better than XP security wise. It's not as lean as XP, but i find it convient that now we speak about XP as being the better windows, when years ago, the same people bitched about XP compared to 2000, and 2000 to NT4..
I like Vista 64-bit. It is a very nice OS in general. It works very well in general, although my biggest problem with it so far is how Vista caches memory. It doesnt work well when rendering large 3d scenes, that use lots of ram. I have 8 GBs of ram and Vista caches 4GBs most of the time. That tends to piss me off.
Otherwise, its a rather nice os, thats been quite pleasant to use. It uses more resources, but in general on my quadcore it flys.
It is better than XP, security wise, it is also nicer to finally have the GPU doing a lot of gui tasks.
Vista 64-bit is a step in the right direction. I do not like the DRM features, and absolutely performance could be improved a bit, but its not bad at all. I think people like to bitch about things they dont use. I have legitimate complaints about Vista, as a user... but in general i enjoy the OS more than XP.
Yes, it needs more drivers... yes... it needs to have the DRM ripped out of it... but give it a try before you hate it.
Carly Fiorina is a cunt. It is well known that she pissed away HP. She has been trying to reinvent herself, taking credit for things wherever she can, but the truth is, she ran HP into the ground and destroyed it. HP barely supports their products, and that is the Carly Fiorina way. She's a cut throat cunt, that destroys companies.
i completely agree that a lot of professional software is on linux. But we're talking about winning the desktop, or atleast breaking even here. I work in 3d character animation and post production. There are linux versions of the major 3d applications etc but there are photoshops, video editors, zbrushes, mudboxes, etc.
There are lots of very highend server applications on linux etc... Linux excels at this, no one is denying it. The issue is the desktop, the workstation. Windows and Mac are beyond linux in this area by far and we need to stop pretending that linux is even close.
Linux covers some very basic desktop uses... but excels at server uses.
The same issues that i mentioned in my OP, are still true to this day for linux. They will be universally true of any non mainstream os and its not linux's fault. Its just how this dam industry works. Beleive me, i dont like it myself.
Gimp is absolutely horrible for professional use.
Linux improves, it is usable, it is nice.... it is not perfect, it is still rough around the corners, it is still difficult in a handful of ways that will annoy the hell out of anyone trying it....
And what i've always said is... Is that frustration worth overcoming, when the applications you use, are not there yet?
Thats for an individual to decide. I've decided to stick with windows. I'm running vista 64 with 8 gigs of ram and for the most part its not horrible. Its pretty nice in many ways, but it does need some honest work... but it still runs the applications everyones familiar with, and the hardware support is pretty dam good.
Especially since MS requires hardware manufacturers to write 64bit drivers as well as 32 now. I mean come on, we have to get out of the 32bit world ASAP.
That makes it even harder for linux hardware suppport, because the manufacturers dont even want to write drivers for 32bit linux... when will they get to 64bit linux drivers?
It's such a tooth pulling experience, and i hope in time... sooner than later, linux gets the wide spread support it deservers. I'm glad many do run it as their desktops. I'm sure it fits their needs quite fine. It does not fit everyones though, and that still needs to be addressed. I understand theres a lot of propaganda at work to help linux succeed, some of it true and some of it tired and old, BUT... i know its a good fight.
The same reasons still exist... a lot of the professional software used by many folks, still only exist on windows, and hardware vendors are not quick to support linux.
They do not just rip out your copper. They ask if you want to keep it or not. Yes they generally default to deactivating the copper lines and cutting them, but it was quite common on broadbandreports.com to hear of many folks who said, they were asked, or they simply said to the installer to leave it.
America is dead. Nothing to see here. Vote for either party, buy a big mac cause all is well. You need not worry, the US government is taking care of everything for you.
Theres some truth to this. Vista does have some performance issues, the DRM features need to be thrown out. They shouldnt be making the system more complex with silly things like encrypted DRM audio and Video pathways etc.
What they did right with vista is.. Vista 64. It has more driver support than XP64. The only other OS i would run is XP64, but since it lacks the driver support... I have to run Vista 64.
VISTA 32 was a huge mistake. Vista should have been a 64bit os only.
There are many anoying things about vista. For one the entire file explorer behaves really wierd and the ui is rather odd.
The new memory management does some very odd things that really screw over folks like myself who use large amounts of ram in their applications, such as 3d animation video editing, photoshop etc. I'll keep it short by just saying on many occasions on a 64bit system with 8 gigs of ram, i've seen 4 GIGS cached by WINDOWS, and i've run out of ram completely, thus sending the system into swap file hell. Windows did no such thing to release the 4 GB of ram it was holding hostage for god knows what. It's supposed to... but it did not.
They really need to fix it. They need to rip out the DRM stuff. STOP spying on their users. It really is the most secure windows yet.... but yeah they have their home work to do, and hopefully fast.
Service Pack 2 better restore peoples faith in Microsoft. There is a growing trend to just go to apple these days. If you've spoken to pc users who have tried macs, they all tend to enjoy the switch over to mac a lot.
I dont know if i'll ever switch to apple, or linux... if my applications arent there... but i would in a heartbeat switch to them IF they were.
Ive actually wondered just how bad Vista is doing. I'm sure its a flop, but how bad of a flop. Is it bad enough for MS to get it through their thick skulls?
Private industry and public industry uses China to do the work... We get no victory, no glory. We're a dead country.

I think it is worth the $60 because the games cinematic aspects flow nice with the gameplay and it seems to all work like a nice movie. Any longer may have been just drawing out the gameplay... Why not just play the game over if you want to repeat the game play?
Most games tend to repeat the gameplay over and over... granted they could add more to it... but for what it is, its a very good game and a great experience.
Feel free to rent it... but you should play it if you have a PS3.

Lair was expected to be a piece of shit since it was delayed so many times and the original PR screen shots were nothing more than lies.
Heavenly Sword on the other hand is brilliantly acted / performed, and the game is very well executed. It is short but sweet. The dramatic performances mix well with the action to provide an experience that is really the best seen to date on the PS3. I know thats not saying much, but Heavenly Sword really does shine as a great game and it will for a long time.
Great real time Ray tracing.... Wonderful. The problem is it will still be slower than the current hardware methods. It just takes more power, and you also need to store the entire scene ram.
The ram and processor requirements will make the cards very expensive.
The entire country is DEAD. We've lost. It is not America anymore. The sooner we all realize it, the better of we'll be. They will do what they want, when they want because they can. Whatever freedoms you think you have, you are wrong. We live in a police state controlled by capitalism and the wealthy. It only serves the wealthy and they are the only ones with civil liberties.
YES! I'm looking forward to this one. I cant wait until our beloved government start blasting those pesky citizens among us who want silly things like freedom and civil rights!
I'll solute and i promise to sing the National Anthem as loud and as proud as i can pretend.
Well, please by all means... be ignorant.

Foxnews? She'll fit right at home there.
Steve Ballmer should really be more concerned with the flop known as Vista... rather than Linux.
He seems hellbent on focusing on linux, where as...Vista... not so much.

Well its clear that we should make these kinds of poisons readily available to the public through dell and bestbuy!
I would love to leave, but this place is home. If America continues to fail, so be it... we'll be here bitching.
I love the people that say "So why dont you leave".. because they never get it.
Where do you get this stuff? Do you have a usb2 port in the back of your skull that plugs right into Rush Limbaughs penis?
Yes life will go on... but at the same quality level?

I was using softimage XSI 64bit, and Mental Ray 64bit render server.
Its just one guy.
Vista is pretty stable. I've not had it crap out on me like XP has. Infact i cant remember if it has ever.
I'm running vista 32 and 64 on my pcs
