I've been using Boxee for a few months and as far as I can tell, registering with site allows you to add friends and rss audio and video feeds that are then populated in the boxee menu. The forums don't require an account unless you want to post.

I don't really utilize the social aspect of it, but it's nice to manage my feeds in one location rather than on each box in the house.

You don't need to register to add the repositories or download binaries (you can find links to them on the internets) and I haven't received any email from boxee, so I think the registration is purely for managing rss feeds and friends.

This is a beautiful illustration if the Liberal mindset. Rather than trying to raise the poor by eliminating mosquitoes he's trying to equalize everyone by lowering the wealthy.

Liberal mindset? How was he 'lowering the wealthy' by reminding them that when it comes to mosquito-borne illness, they are just as susceptible as the poor? When it comes to malaria, everyone is equal - mosquitoes couldn't care less about your politics or taxable income. As long as you've got blood in your veins, you're susceptible. Bill was just reminding them of that fact.

It is all about quantity. People seem to think that the more of something you get in a product, the better. This marketing rationale is used for other kinds of products. Just look at fastfood ('Gorge yourself on our 10lb. 13. One Word: Portfolio on Tips for Selecting a Web Development Firm? · · Score: 5, Insightful

These are all questions that a development firm's previous clients would have answers to. Most company sites I see usually have some sort of portfolio listing previous and current clients. If you like the firm's work, start contacting their previous clients and ask them your questions.

As far as what technology they use, I'd say that as long as it fits your needs (each tech has it's own strengths and weaknesses) and is quality work, it doesn't really matter unless you've got something in mind.

    Good luck.

Why not apply all available patches, install the latest version of the software and then run the security tests? I imagine their results might be different if they chose this method instead.

As an aside, the title of this article could be improved: "Study finds Windows more secure than Redhat Linux". They are not testing linux as a whole- Just Red Hat's distro. Again, the result might be different if they tested against [insert random distro here].

Recycling is great if the machine is COMPLETELY unusable but if the machine/part is still in good working order, donate it to a local school instead. Schools (where I live anyways) are usually hurting for technology funding, so every little bit helps- even if it is a cd drive here and a sound card there. It makes more sense to reuse parts that still work.

In some cases, you might even be able to use it as a tax write-off.

  16. Legislating Social Change on Berkman Center Releases Digital Media Policy Paper · · Score: 1

Unfortunately, I don't think it is really possible to legislate a social change. The lack of foresight on the part of the RIAA/MPAA is what created this mess in the first place. Instead of thinking ahead, they waited for companies like Apple to provide a product that consumers desired years before hand.

If they had developed their business model to include the 'MP3 revolution' when it first began I don't think that p2p would be as engrained in our society as it is and thus we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. Now, the RIAA and MPAA want government help because they didn't develop their business model. Maybe the government should help all business that couldn't plan their way out of a wet paper bag.

I think it is more about freedom to work with the same data across more than one platform. What would have happened if only IE was capable of rendering HTML? Would the internet be where it is today if everyone decided to use their own format instead of a standard? I doubt it.

From what I've heard of it, listening to conservative talk radio may be why my grandmother is afraid to fly.
