Just got back from Negril, Jamaica.. Paul's boat - the Octopus - was docked off cliff road in negril right off Rick's cafe. Quite the impressive yacht, according to what I've read, it's the largest privately held yacht in the world
I eat steak and chicken and enjoy both, but let's not pretend hunting's anything noble or magnificent
Did you ever think you might learn something by hunting that 'steak or chicken' that YOU eat? Or you just take for granted that it's there at the supermarket. Did you ever wonder how that 'steak or chicken' that you buy is prepared? Do you know where it came from and what kind of chemicals it may have been treated with?
I have nothing but contempt for the overweight rednecks who need a rifle and a corpse to feel like men.
Nice stereotype. People who throw stereotypes into comments, and then get modded 'insightful' or 'interesting' make me sick. As I said earlier in the post, your an idiot.
but it simply amazes me what hardcore gamers are willing to put up with from Valve. There are lots of perfectly good other games
I wouldn't say it's the hardcore gamers. The fact is it's a great game (better than the so-called 'other games') and people want to play it. If this happened to say, San Andreas, you bet your ass I'd wait as long as I had to in order to unlock it and continue playing.
How long till we get special versions of RedHat or SuSE free with our breakfast cerial.....:-)
Back in the 70's they gave out "Frampton Comes Alive" with free samples of Tide.*
Seriously though, that's not a bad idea at all. How about distributing knoppix (or another live cd type distro) for free with boxes of cereal or some other commonplace product? It could really promote the use of alternative OS's and expose everyday people to something they probably never knew existed. I guess the only question would be who would fund something like that.. redhat? novell?
As long as I don't go to the grocery store and see MS BSOD crispy flakes w/ assloads of fiber.
* After hearing "do you feel like we do" so many times on the radio, we would always joke that the album must have been given away for free - with samples of tide of course because everybody was playing that goddam song.
And at one point in the article, it says "20 nodes" and then at another part it says "512 nodes." So like, what is it?
Read the article:
"It is using an off-the-shelf system and taken that and built a powerful system around 512-processors which are then hooked together to give considerable power."
Linux is NOT obviously more rock solid. People have been saying this for years but it is simply no longer true. Win2k and XP effectively eliminated the stability gap, especially when compared to KDE or Gnome.
Have to disagree with you there. Here's why:
I support about 150 users of XP and 2k. Why oh why do applications quit working after awhile on these machines? The funny thing is, the way I fix it is by deleting their profile on that machine. Once that's done, they log back in, windows creates a new profile, and all runs perfect. WTF.
I do agree that the BSOD's have all but disappeared with XP (not 2k though). BTW, I've never had to delete my.kde directory - in 4 years of using kde.

It might seem a bit far-fetched, but seriously, if I designed something for NASA that might really advance humanity, a space-flight isn't too out of the question, is it?

on the history channel had a special kinda relating to this. The episode What sank the armada? had a scientist researching why the spanish were not prepared for a naval battle (defeat of the spanish armada). The scientist was researching the log books and trying to recalculate areas of low and high pressure. pretty interesting.

512 processors * 20 nodes = 10240

Rectum? Damn near killed him!
Now I can listen to my MP3s on my stereo without having a 100 foot cable snaking around the room.
There's a solution for every problem.
Why don't you just use one of these?

I bet they will try the customers under the DMCA, having used the cable box as a "circumvention device"
Now the DMCA will turn it into a "circumcision device"!!! ouch!
