Those are some of the absolute worse movies to offer for an initial selection. I imagine the studios are just throwing on some shitty movies and when nobody downloads them they'll say...
"well, that didn't work, we obviously shouldn't use this as a business model."

I paid $20/month here where I live for dial-up just a few months ago and have moved up to 768 broadband for only $10 more a month. I could have even stayed at 256 broadband and paid less than I did for dial-up.
I don't know how many people have played xbox live on slashdot. But what I do know is that there's a definite advantage to using it over PS2 online. Having the ability to invite friends across games to play a different one is nice, as well as being able to recognize friends in all games cause they have the same name.
These are just a few of the reasons why I will continue to pay the extra fee to play tons of games on xbox live versus free shoddy ps3 online versus high monthly fees for one game on PC. To me, it's the logical thing to do if you really want the best experience for your dollat.
Some of the people that I've seen (as I was following this for a few days before this article went up) have a special section dedicated to the grind that is seperate from their regular updated strip.
I think it's interesting and also has opened my eyes to a few webcomics that I didn't know about before that look promising.
I found out the other day that my local blockbuster has changed rentals from 5 days down to one. Needless to say I will not be going to blockbuster anymore. Hollywood video has long been a better rental place to me.
um, don't you listen to anything? Halo was intended to be a Mac game first and foremost but then Microsoft bought Bungie. The original game Bungie was making started out as a RTS, not even close to the FPS it became on the Xbox.
It's true that it was originally intended for Mac, not PC, but the version that was intended for it never saw the light of day.
exactly, most people seem to miss the fact that social interaction is what makes halo so appealing.
It could be due to the fact that the audience here at slashdot doesn't really remember what social interaction is like and thinks it's overrated compared to all night multiplayer with random people you don't know. or maybe an all night programming session will get their blood pumping more...

I guess I just don't get the big selling point behind Halo- do people just like it for the action? I mean the story was interesting, but the levels definately were not.
Perhaps the appeal behind Halo lies within its excellent multiplayer gameplay. If you've never played with at least 6 other people over lan on Halo you most likely won't understand all the hype behind it. It makes for one hell of an experience because it brings great multiplayer from the computer room to the living room and dorm room...
All those systems and no Xboxes, guess everybody is gearing up for Halo 2.
It would be sweet to get a liquidation of xboxes for lan parties when Halo 2 comes out. Yes, I know it's on Live but LAN parties are still where it's at.
Could the real reason be that they don't want to directly compete with Nintendo's cheaply priced handheld or even that they don't want to draw sales away from their new PS2 model?
Seems like Sony didn't think too far ahead when they planned on releasing this in Q4 2004.
This definitely brings up the question of what overkill is. I think I may enjoy something like this, but at the same time, how much would I really use it for anything other than audio and maybe a little video.
For me it would probably end up as little more than an 80 GB mp3 player with a lot of extra hard drive storage space.
Does anybody out there think this would be better than a laptop? The only place I can see using this for movies or pictures would be on vacation or business trips where a laptop would be more practical.
Well, first of all, I wouldn't put college kids and yuppies together in the same group. They are completely opposite when it comes to alcohol tastes for the most part. I attend Ohio University (the state univeristy, number 5 party school) and around here, Natural Ice is what's in most kegs and fridges. People around here drink to get drunk, they don't drink that sugary shit that kills your stomach before you get a buzz.
With that said, I'd like to believe this Be beer from Anheuser Busch will be better than those drinks and more enjoyable and acceptable. I enjoy trying different things sometimes, that's how I discovered Woodchuck, Blue Moon and some nice locally brewed ales and german beers. But when it comes right down to it I'm a poor college kid so our parties usually consist of about 12 cases of Natty (not allowed to have kegs in my complex).
In addition to that, this site (also has a link to the.torrent of the movie) is dedicated to uncovering the truth behind moore's claims. I find it interesting to read about how his editing distorts things so much.
In Bowling the speech given by NRA pres. Heston was actually snippets from two different speeches spliced together in numerous places. If you watch it, you'll see that Heston is even wearing different clothes during the clip of what is supposed to be one continual flow of speech.
There are many more things in Moore's movies that are so misleading that I have no desire to sit through one of his movies. I will watch it, but only to see what kind of claims he makes and whether they actually carry any validity.
exactly! I myself attend Ohio University and got an email with a link to that survey a few days ago. I looked at it, saw that in order to burn to CD I had to pay even more and said hell no. There is no way that that is a business model that will lead to success. It's gouging their customers. I am sure I can still get by using KCEasy until they sort out all this garbage about pricing.
My point right now is not what teh goal is. Why? Because none of us know the goal of Microsoft in this move, yet everybody is an expert and believes that MS has already killed themselves without even knowing anything about it. It's pointless to argue over something that isn't even a know fact yet.
I will be more than willing to bash the next Xbox WHEN I find out that it doesn't have any storage included inside. Until that time let's give all next gen systems the same starting point.
And unlike Xbox, which seems intent on turning the console gaming market into the PC gaming market by porting just about every game they make to the PC, Nintendo actually gives people a reason to buy their system.
This is simply untrue. Tell me how many games MS has ported from PC to the Xbox currently. It's not a large number. If you're thinking games like Counter Strike and Rainbow Six, those weren't made by MS. I know Halo was on Xbox first and its sequel is easily one of the most anticipated games ever.
If somebody can point out a large list of ports by Microsoft from PC to Xbox I will concede.
Why is the hard drive thing still an issue? It shouldn't be an issue at all yet since no specs have been released on the system.
Would an internal 4 Gig flash drive make everyone happy? Because that's not outside the realm of possibility yet.
Also, who predicts something as unpredictable as video game sales? This is a stupid thing to do. Maybe after we see some specs on the consoles in question. But, gamers are getting smarter and more tuned in to what makes a system good and for all we know Nintendo could release a system that simply blows the other 2 away 3-6 months after the other two are released.
All in all, I can't believe somebody like the BBC would run an article like this.
Perhaps the lightest moment in the day came when one voter standing at his machine asked in the most deadpan voice, "What do I do if it says it is rebooting?" Head judge Marie turned white, and Joy's mouth dropped. My heart started to beat quickly, when he laughed and said "just kidding." There was about a two second pause of silence followed by roaring laughter from everyone.
This guy seems to change his perspectives a lot after he sees it in the field. I think there is a lot to worry about still but if we have people like Rubin working to make it right then we'll get there eventually.
In addition to this, there is also the appeal of playing the arcade games with custom setups that you couldn't imagine having in your home and would be much too expensive to realize for home consoles. Games like Daytona with the hydraulic car and the Skateboarding game with the board that you moved to do tricks.
I personally enjoyed the rafting game that came out a few years back where two friends could sit down and work their arms into a frenzy trying to paddle out of a whirlpool. It was insane fun even if it did cost a buck, and you can't recreate that at home no matter how hard you try. That's where appeal is being created. You constantly see the new machines with features that they know can't be recreated at home and are appealing enough to bring people back.
And then there's DDR, which is now available at home but people play that in arcades simply to show off their skill to everybody there or meet new challengers.
AT&T's local plan will allow you to roam on both Cingular and T-Mobile networks without charging you for roaming. Of course, local means a small in-state area as opposed to nationwide.
But, at the same time, AT&T's current national plan is the biggest joke I've seen. I started out on that plan because I thought it would be good for me, but I live in rural Ohio and when I travelled to Cincinnati on that plan I got charged for roaming. Now, I personally think that Cincy should be covered by any mobile co's "national" coverage plan since it's a friggin ginormous city.
I hope that something gets done to fix this garbage. I still can't tell whether or not I'm roaming on my AT&T phone. My old Sprint PCS phone gave me the ability to lock out roaming, what a novel idea!
You folks do realize that Senators and Reps and anybody else in the government who is representing constituents has the ability to send postal letters for free?
They use taxes to pay for the postage and send the letters out to as many people as they see fit. This brings up all kinds of problems besides the waste of tons of paper including incumbent advantage.
I ran into this problem somewhat as a freshman. But, it was normally me who was the one up late at night tapping away on the old keyboard. My roommate confronted me and I decided to try and cut back on the computer usage. It turned out to be good for me because I found that my late night browsing habits were counterproductive and were excessive. I cut back on it and used the computer more efficiently when I needed to work.
After that problem was worked out we both realized that the 2billion watt street lamp outside our window was just as bad as the clacking of keyboards.
This problem was remedied when my roommate and I and some friends were playing some football on the green and I absent-midedly grabbed ahold of the lamp post and swung around it. Instantly the lamp post swung towards the ground and I could do nothing but slow it as my leverage wasn't enough to hold it up. We all sprinted to our dormitory and holed up for the evening. For the rest of the quarter there was an orange cone over the lamp post's old position and we could sleep easily without the hindrance of a real bother.
Bottom line, you'll both be more productive if you do what you need on the computer during the day and stay away from too much pointless browsing at night. For me it was video game sites and random humor sites. For my roommate it was Snood. You can identify these things and get rid of them without the need to purchase quieter peripherals.
A long story for a short answer, but that's what I have to say....

I just got my freemame discs in the mail the other day and I'm having a blast. No need to download 8+ gigs of roms when you can get them on 2 dvds.
Next step is to undertake building a cabinet. If you're interested in emulators defintely check out freemame. I got mine for 9 bucks.
check out a list of the people who do it
