How about putting all the e-books/pdfs on iTunes? Apple makes money the same way they do on the music side.

There's already a pdf reader built into the iPhone/iPodTouch.

If Apple's marketshare doubled every year, they would take 5 years before becoming the dominant OS. That's a long time. It may not be for you, but for businesses it is.

I don't have exact numbers but for the last year, PC sales up ~14%. Mac sales up ~35%.

No, they (the entertainment division) turned a profit because they back dated their $1B warantee into the last quarter, so this one looks much better. The next one will be bad again.

As a previous poster said though. It's more financially favorable to Apple to release an open version.

Those 250k phones ~= $125M in sales which is much greater than the lost revenue ($118M*(250k/1.4M)) about $21M

However, then Apple doesn't control the experience and they don't look good to their business partner.

Microsoft doesn't want to piss off a bunch of users by fixing a security flaw that will effectively break a lot of stupid apps that were also not written properly. I don't know why, but that cracks me up. Not arguing with you at all, but it is funny that MS cares more about the apps than security. And it explains a lot of their issues.

Why dos the mac mouse have only one button? Because they are made for islamic terorist that lost most of their fingers in accidents trying to assemble bombs. How could they rightclick on normal mice when they are designing their bombs? They can't.
And MacOS is not easy to use it's just so simple and devoid of functions that even iliterate terorists can use it. Go Shelly, Go USA.
