    It's never just "harmonizing". It is always "harmonizing + a little/lot more", so other countries then need to "harmonize" to your laws, but they also do the "harmonize + more", then you have to do it.

    It's always sold as "just making it an even playing field", but it always actually is tilting the table more and more towards large corporations relying on copyright for their existence.

    "these governments" is YOUR government. the one YOU elected. over and over and over again, for most of the last 100 years or more, you have voted almost exclusively to be governed by either "Democrats" or "Republicans".

    So the source code to pretty much all software can't be published, because hackers can view the source and find more mind-numbingly boneheaded stupid vulnerabilities that they can exploit, even if the code isn't used in "front-facing" applications [as hackers commonly system-hop].

    Yes, really the only thing you can do is try to locate all the computers with cellular functions and either remove their antennae or disable the chips. Of course, you are still boned because the vehicle keeps track of all the data in its "black box" to be used to incriminate you.

    Which will be after 1 year, after that, the hardware will be obsolete, MS/Toyota won't be able to get drivers for the old bits, you will either need to drive the old car with the constant risk of being hacked with known exploitable bugs or buy a new one that Microsoft "promises" to support for at least one release cycle.

    This isn't new. the last couple years, most new hardware, particularly stuff that connects to your phone or IoT devices are like this.

    fitness bands
    smart watches
    thermostats (like the Nest)
    ODB Readers
    Android OS/Windows 10

    Even though these devices could easily be managed so all data stays local, either on the device or on a smartphone, companies making them force all data to get uploaded to their servers so they "own" the data [fitbit in particular makes you pay an extra monthly fee to get access to the data you have generated], and let you access it via an app/web page, but also sell that data to anybody walking by with a spare dollar.

    It's my understanding that, at least for a number of states, police departments don't have to either keep track of who they kill or report the killings to anyone.
