    First of all, HP already offers a workstation that has dual pci express ports that can either work together for one monitor, or work seperately for up to 4 monitors (HP xw9300).

    Second, you don't need any unholy cooling methods as it is multiple chips, running at normal speeds. You would need special cooling for one chip running at 4x the speed! :)

    According to Thomas Schneller, a developer on the HP side who is working on this ubuntu project - last time they offered a linux laptop (nx5000), they sold 300 worldwide. I'm amazed they're doing this at all, to be honest. But I don't see enough interest for a manufacturer to go all out on a linux solution for the home user.

    You can see the conversation with Schneller over at the ubuntu boards: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=28410&pag e=1&pp=10&highlight=%22hp%22+%22ubuntu%22+%22nc612 0%22

  3. 10 weeks?! on Dealing with Internet Credit Card Fraud? · · Score: 1, Interesting
    10 weeks?! Who is your bank, paypal? Because if so, paypal is not a bank, and will not act like one - especially when it comes to your rights pertaining to fraudelent transactions.

    I believe for real banks there is a federally imposed time limit for adressing fraudelent use of your account, and it certainly isn't 10 weeks.

    I had my credit card attached to my paypal account, and someone broke into my paypal account and emptied it (thereby cleaning out my credit card and bank account). I called paypal who wanted me to fill out tons of forms, get them notorized, snail mail them in, and wait 90 days for a judgement. And this AFTER they admitted it was due to their lowsy security.

    So I called my bank and said "paypal ripped me off." The bank had my money back in my account the same day, and they went after paypal to get paid back.

    If you're bank is really going to make you wait 10 weeks, you need a new bank. You can always deal with Visa or Mastercard or whoever directly and they're pretty good about getting your money back.

  18. The silver lining....(loopholes) on Bush Signs Law Targeting P2P Pirates · · Score: 1
    First off, everyone is still okay to download movies and whatnot. The act targets people who "distribute" media. As long as you're not distributing, you're okay. Just do everyone a favor and download from people who live in countries with sane copyright laws.

    Second, I can imagine them having a tough time convicting anyone of this. After all, what defines the media? The hundreds of thousands of tiny pictures and sound trak on a film reel, after all, are entirely different than the ones and zeros you are downloading on your computer. It's like saying you can't sell the statue of liberty - well can you sell pictures you took of it? Nobody is redistributing a studios work - nobody is redistributing the reels or even copies of the reels.

    from the law...

    `(1) IN GENERAL- Any person who willfully infringes a copyright shall be punished as provided under section 2319 of title 18, if the infringement was committed--

    `(A) for purposes of commercial advantage or private financial gain;

    `(B) by the reproduction or distribution, including by electronic means, during any 180-day period, of 1 or more copies or phonorecords of 1 or more copyrighted works, which have a total retail value of more than $1,000; or
