  1. Wait... on Trauma Pill Might Help Ease Emotional Pain · · Score: 2, Insightful

So what happens when the rapists and other evil-doers have this drug? Wouldn't it clear the victim of any knowledge of what happened occuring? Sort of brainwashing... Sounds like something that can easily be misused.

  2. Better environment on Computers, Long Hours and Vision Problems? · · Score: 1

You should place your monitor in a better environment for things. A lot of people talk about having a light behind their monitor to provide a soft light to contrast upon, but how about putting your monitor right by your window? Every now and then you can simply look out your window and focus on different things. It would definitely give your eyes a break. That and if you have glare problems from your screen, invest in some tinting for the windows. I have my monitor right by a window and I can definitely say it reduces my eye strain quite well.

  7. Would help pollution a lot... on Truckers Choose Hydrogen Power · · Score: 1

I would think there are a lot more 18-wheelers driving constantly than there are regular cars. Thus, it would only make sense that pollution would nationwide might decrease a lot even with cars that are without the technology. Infact, there should be steps for all commercial vehicles (delivery trucks, phone/gas/electric trucks, other fleet vehicles) implement the technology since I would think a bulk of pollution would be coming from them.

  8. What's the big deal? on U.S. Scientists Call for a Time Change · · Score: 1

So, if the International Telecommunications group wants to run on their own time, what's wrong with that? Astronomers need more advanced/sync'ed clocks and would keep having them. Splitting the two doesn't seem to make much of a difference atleast to the average citizen. We don't add in "leap" seconds into our clocks at home. Day Light Savings seemed like a bigger issue.

Perhaps this is why there is a shift away from science in the US? People say we need to "reignite" science here, but with such strong patent laws I could see why scientists would be more persuaded to research elsewhere.

  11. Re:SSN is the problem on Identity Theft-What Can Really be Done w/o a SSN? · · Score: 3, Interesting

Seriously - almost every financial transaction needs this number

I don't need an SSN to withdraw money from my ATM, or make a deposit. And it should be kept that way. Anything that has a frequent transaction rate (financial transactions, university logins, bank logins, etc) should never use anything involving a SSN. By increasing the frequency of transactions involving SSN, you remove the user's will to protect this number. It begins to become more of a hassle for them to use this number, thus they'll do anything they want to make it easier for them to use the number (writing it down on notes, cards, sharing is easily to get from step A to step B). By making it rare to use the number, you also increase the user's protectiveness towards the number as well as the amount of information in exsistence using the number (transaction receipets, database entries, etc), causing eless things to become compromised. So if we apply the same ideas, any number, or piece of information that is used freequently, can be easily obtained. While information that is not frequently used, is harder to obtain, and more easier to secure since you have less of a paper-trail.

  13. California on Using Cell Phones to Track Traffic · · Score: 1

In California we have sigalert (sigalert.com). Which basically is a bunch of detectors implanted into the road (the same kind used for stop lights). And it measures the time where something moves from detector A to detector B. This would seem to be a much more cost-effective approach.

Perhaps Google should sort of teach the publishers a lesson and drop all existence of their companies from all Google searches in fear of copyright violations. The publishers would complain saying that no one could find their pages, but Google will just retort saying, "Well we wanted to make sure you won't sue us over copyrighted material, if you want back, then let us index your books too."

  19. Some possible solutions on Wikipedia Founder Sees Serious Quality Problems · · Score: 1

Perhaps I form of meta moderation should take place. For example, if a major change to an entry in wikipedia is detected, its flagged for group moderation/voting. The old and new is shown, and users would vote for which entry seems most accurate. Either that, or when a major change is detected, the previous author and the new author have to delegate between old and new changes. If the old author feels that the information submitted by the new author is an acceptable change to what he has written, he can approve it... or the two can work things out to reach something acceptable. Or, remove the ability to edit/remove text completely and only allow appending information, this would be quite inefficient though as you would have an entire length of information on the subject all in one giant block.
