Im in austin tx and i got mine a month ago. i went to best buy asked when next shipment was coming in "next saturday" so i got there right when it opened, didnt camp out like the 8 people already there, and got one of the 50 they had. when i left there were still plenty... oddly enough there was NOT anyone in line waiting to be a xbox360Elite hmm wonder why?
given the admission of many groups to fail to develop for it initially, its going to take time before they start releasing things. Maybe the graphics arent 1080p and amazing but you know what? they are f'ing good enough. Not everyone has an HD tv anyways. there is more to games than graphics..
i firmly believe that the singular factor that will really determine wii's success will be 3rd party support. if the 3rd parties get on the wagon the way they did with snes and ps and ps2 then wii can thrive. if it ends up like n64 and gamecube did with minimal 3rd party involvement and no 3rd party BIG NAME MAJOR titles many of the pseudo hard core gamers like myself who were attempting to go less hard core will succumb to our inner gamer, leave the joy that is the wii and end up with something else.
you'd think more slashdotters would be proWii and proPs3 in any attempt to not support M$... color me surprised
im aware vnc on windows seizes control only but whenever i use windows remote desktop from even my own windows machine to another of my windows machines (hey i was young and stupid once) when the remote gets connected i get logged out locally and taken to the login screen, and if i login my remote connector (myself on another machine) gets logged out. not very helpful.. i havent done remote assistance ever which might address this.
vnc is usually more entertaining on windows. during the pre-VMware days we had a common windows machine for coops in my cubicle for submitting and printing time sheets on (for whatever reason no one could get the office printer to work on linux at the time and the time sheet program wasnt linux friendly either and had to be done from IE) so we would take turns using vnc on this machine... it was always funny when all the sudden you lost control of the mouse to someone else and you both tried to move it opposite directions,
especially when its a free medium to begin with.. what if the person in the back has a radio to either in cab, or a walkman type thing and they are listening to the same station.
does this mean you can also target anyone cited for a noise violation do to loud music? and what about high school dances? or gyms that play the radio
tremedously amazing post! its sorta like a black box that has some rules to translate from english to chinese.. does it really know anything about chinese? no...
the bulk of these kids and their myspace pages are miserable monstrosities. You cant read anything, its like the whole look at my dancing jesus webpage phenomenon all over again.. but worse.. look and listen to my 20 different music videos at once
its not webpage design by a longshot. mostly its copy pasting stuff from other peoples pages. if it was intelligent webpage design even remotely theyd have some decent documentation and standards as to how to do it..
you dont want to learn C fine. but learn enough about your computer to be reasonbly competent with it. like say how to install and remove a piece of software. how to navigate a harddrive and not store every file you ever thought of on the desktop
the sad thing is a lot of those myspace pages are likely being done by people who should probably be studying or doing their homework first godforbid. I got through a rigourous course load in high school and then a top tier college doing a dual major (CS and Psych) and I have never gotten a C or a B-. Frankly anyone who did the work semi paid attention and tried got B's. A's vary in ease class to class, but to get C's you really have to slack off and not turn in most of your work.
as someone with ADD as well i can say that probably the last thing you need in the classroom is the large distraction of hundreds of more gizmos and gadgets. put a laptop in front of someone during class and 9 times out of 10 theyll be too busy doing everything other than paying attention to use it to take notes or follow along with slides
and while we are at it even though windows runs on diesel lets swap out the spark plugs for some more expensive high performance luxury ddr octo-core ones:-)
but it is usually memory intensive... however you could easily point out that most of it could be pre computed and indexed... but why waste space on our precious dvds or hard drives when we could do something "useful" with it like massive amounts of audio or graphic content?
its been said before and ill say it again
the cd killed the algorithm and the dvd (and gpu) defiled its corpse:-)
linux needs SSH because it is a central feature to the multi user networked computing paradigm linux is a part of. If you want to connect to another machines console you use SSH. sure the general joe average may not do it much... but any CS major, software dev, or anyone who has several machines networked together couldnt live without it.
thats like saying ok lets connect our windows computer to the internet but first we will delete IE so that there isnt any possible way to browse the internet...
why does windows need IE? why do cars need spare tires? why why why
not to mention SSH and the ssh key ring are usually the root for setting up other awesome tools like SCP which windows needs and has never done right...
in short SSH is for a lot more than administrative purposes
1. go to rh site 2. proceed to name my own price 3. enter -1000000000000 dollars 4. Profit !!!!!!!!!!!!:-) hey its so simple and stupid could happen sadly
Its sad when the best comment I've read all year is by AC so i can't become a fan:-( what if we allowed comments on modded discussions if we flagged the person as someone who moderated, and they dont moderate their post or one that is a first or 2nd degree response to it? sorta like how posters at motley fool and the like have to post their holdings when they make a reccomendation.
because this guy nailed it...
on a side note its probably also because blackberry is actual designed for business use, where as the iphone is designed as a CONSUMER product not a BUSINESS product. its not meant to be drudged around to other companies on business trips its a luxury phone for the mainland. thats why they dont have business plans set up for it like they do with blackberrys
I dont know if i'd go that far. it doesnt matter what pitch you tune to, it matters what key the song is in.. Everyone tunes to A=440, but it doesn't mean the song is in that key, it just means everyone agrees on a certain pitch definition to allign the different instruments around.
what this post really seems to lack is the basic notion that it doesnt' matter which pitch we choose to tune to or what frequency its tuned at... the same thing will happen no matter what. If we tuned to A =220 itd be the same thing.
no matter what you tune to, it suggests that you will be bad at tuning things close to it... which basically just says we are bad at tuning because we are bad at tuning.. No matter what pitch you take we will be bad at it over time....
The only thing that this article possibly suggests is that you constantly change the note you tune to. This of course is preposterous because of the large amounts of tempered tuning types that place different notes differntly, notable is the piano and even the guitar (nutvana, buzz feiten... anyone else who flatens the 3rd string so it sounds decently)
so todays circular logic lesson is that we are bad because we are bad; because any choice would lead us to the same place we are already at... So how much research money did we waste on this discovery?
Also the final conjecture is also a bit fishy... if you tune to different A's all the time wouldn't that widen every band... because A isnt the only note thats shifting everything else moves up or down a couple cents as well..... either way I honestly think this research in particular was a waste of time.. can i publish that people have a hard time finding shoes that fit because everyone thinks 12 is something different? Its the exact same thing pretty much, except theres money to be made. If I had any faith that wearing a size X in brand A meant I'd actually wear that size in brand Z i'd buy more sneakers online... Whereas I don't have perfect pitch and I doubt I will (or that I want it, my gf has it and hates it because everything out of pitch/tune/key leaps out at her), so I deal with having decent relative pitch and keep a tuner in my guitar case.. Real Hard
whats making people tone deaf? more likely the crap that passes for music these days thats on our airwaves that consists of lots of random clicks, booms, sampled random noises and everyones favorite: screaming:-P
that is horribly incorrect. There is only one professional sports league that has been given immunity from anti-trust and that is Major League Baseball. Your second point is also incorrect. They don't have these righs, RTFA. Just because they say they have them doesn't make it so. What if I said that by reading my article you consent to give me power of attourney, or that you agree to pay me 100 million dollars. Do you honestly think that you would be under any obligation? No.
because lord knows the iPhone is so important to business that not only do you need one, you need your company to buy it for you and pay for it.
So basically what you are complaining about is that they won't help circumvent tax laws so you can basically get the phone for free cheap schmuck..
Here's a better idea figure out how you are going to explain to your tax auditor how the iPhone is a warranted business expense... I suppose next you are going to have "your" company buy you a ferrari too and claim that as a business expense because you needed a car... unless you've already done that.
Honestly you own a business, if you want the iPhone so badly just pay for it for yourself
oops... and there are people who like both.. one of whom just called me, and I totally forgot to add that type to the listing at the end... yay for interuptions:-)
I agree with you on what you are Trying to say.. but what you actually said was horribly incorrect... think for a moment here
X % find hard lines useful Y % find mobiles useful Z % found BOTH useful A % found neither useful
X+Y-Z = Number who found either useful X+Y-Z = 1-A
why? because X+Y+A > 100% in your case X+Y alone was > 100%
so I conclude with: M = % of people who don't understand probability/logic
There are people who like having landlines but don't want you to have mobile access to them there are people who like mobile and think the landlines just tie them down.... I happen to be one of them.. If I'm at my desk why do I need a landline? Give me a voip Softphone through my laptop so that I can hear the rings and everyone else doesn't have to.. plus I wouldn't have to look up every number on my computer's address book just to dial it in...
oh wait nm on the speed thing... i didn't read the stupid legal prefix close enough.. i love that... yay for 100Mbit... which isnt really 100Mbit either
ugh.. is anyone else fed up with all the illegitimate uses of MB and Mbit and them being confusing as crap... I'm tired of having to convert every freaking value ever.
yeah this might be... except for the fact that how many people are running vista with a Gigabit ethernet card? Probably not many.. and of them how many are actually connected to a GigEthernet Router? Probably fewer... And of those how many are actually connecting to the internet at the gig rate? probably next to 0..
Joe average user is likely running a 100MB ethernet, with a router that connects the cable modem / dsl line.. And last time I checked even using a crappy 802.11a card at 11MB you are still getting twice the download capacity of most cable ISP's.. timewarner is at what like 5MB down?
So I'm going to bet this problem has nothing to do with maxing out a GbE link.....
The crap with the audio driver is fair enough... except that should be causing EVERYTHING in userspace to be slowing down according to your reasoning, not just the network.
which reminds me, any one else feel perplexed that even on a local network file transfers never seem to break 1Meg a second.. let alone 10 or 50...
honestly on a 100Mb ethernet how long should it take to transfer 1Gig of music files... and why does that not seem to even be remotely the case with windows? I feel like a minute should easily do it but it seems to be more like 5-10.
sure, blaim someone else. Clearly it is AOL's fault that you were able to download some file on the internet.. Are you kidding me. This is absurd. AOL and Kazaa have no such responsibility. hmm, there were lots of names i expected to see up on the title line. RedHat, Novell and IBM were obviously expected. Autozone and chrysler? that seems a little odd to me.
