There was nothing illegal about what the government was doing, the Patriot Act gave them all those abilities, legally. Any idiot who failed to acknowledge the act and didn't know what was going on was totally at fault for being ignorant.
Anyone who has been paying attention already knew what Snowden has been crying about.
"The spy agencies are spying!"
Yes!! That's what they do! It's in their name!
Well, yeah, his open betrayal of his country was a pretty solid confession on it's own. He's not pretending to not be breaking the law, he thinks he's more important than the law. He thinks the average citizen is qualified to know what he knew and judge the actions of others based on it. He was and is wrong, and he's a pussy for fleeing to Russia.
If you think you're innocent or in the right, or dealing justice, you don't run.
I think he tried to do the right thing, but I sincerely believe that he did the wrong thing. Truth is relative and anyone who didn't always know that the SPY agency was SPYING probably shouldn't know it now either.
Oh and he went to Russia, then told world leaders their phones were tapped. As if the US was the only one doing any of this... If you want to change the system, you have to play by the existing rules, otherwise you are just a cheater.
no computer system should be able to 'apply the brakes', if anything they should only, and in the most restrictive sense possible, be able to disallow further acceleration. And when the system is in doubt or fails, it must ALWAYS default to doing absolutely nothing.
Big brother my ass though, if it is illegal to speed, it makes sense that it shouldn't be possible for cars to speed. Such a feature should be on e default but should also be easily bypassed by the vehicle's owner. No fixed system can take into account unknown circumstances and as such this should be easily opt-out-able. I think most sensible people will opt-in though...
He's not a King, he is the president and works with thousands of public servants to provide the service the government does... It sounds so strange when people call him by name, as if he was the only person in Washington responsible for anything.
In theory, sure. But we are not robots and in the eyes of humans there are no absolutes. Sometimes code is put in the wrong place and guess what? It doesn't always matter...
Any DRM that isn't user friendly is the problem. This aptly demonstrates which companies are more concerned about their bottom line than they are about the quality of their wares, and any software where quality comes second, is software to avoid.
With population growth and security issues... privacy will someday be a thing of the past, and the concept of 'hiding' things will be taboo.
For those who would defend privacy to the death, what do you have to hide?
No matter how creative a person is, they are simply building upon the work of others either by influence, tools, inspiration, cooperation or downright theft. There is no such thing as a truly original work and if any artist would stop 'creating' because they were no longer remunerated for it, they DO NOT have their heart or mind in the right place.
Like a lot of jobs these days, artists do not produce anything that is absolutely necessary to life, and while I most certainly believe that very talented artists should gain recognition, I do not think that money is the only/best form of recognition.
I am an artist and I create because I love, not because I want money. I find it extremely self-centered of people to claim "this is mine, you have to PAY to experience it", when the cost of sharing the material is insignificant. Any real artist would simply love to have their work appreciated.
They either need to disappear or become MUCH less onerous. The digital age has redefined markets and manufacturing of digital goods; it no longer makes sense to consider digital copying as theft.
What does it matter if it's a drone? What's the difference between a drone and a regular fighter jet? Or missiles launched from ships? You're all acting like there's some new element in all this, but there isn't, it's still the American armed forces taking out targets. This has been going on for a very very long time...
is outdated. I realize the importance of the medium to date, but with audio and video being so much more efficient, writing in all it's forms is on the way out.

The verdict has already been decided.

I tried to use it and honestly just didn't know how. Or maybe because none of my friends were on it, making it useless.

The only thing children need protection from are people who think they know what children need protecting from.
is awesome.
seems just as smooth as iOS 6 on an iPhone 5 and 4S to me...
It's called javascript and it runs on all phones already. You don't even need access to the phone itself, just a webserver...

that is so cool.
I don't think it's the cash that is making them vulnerable to robberies... and please, no, don't stop harassing banks, ever.

ah cynicism, it is strong in this one...
I for one welcome our new developer overlords...
Is there anything in the universe in which quantum mechanics does not have a functional role?

and here I was hoping for some Jim Carrey movie idea...

yeah, all those 'universities' will have to pretend they aren't studying security and privacy in modern technology....
buys the rights to all your old favorite games implements them poorly, making them virtually unplayable.
