Hmm, I guess I should've specified that it does depend on the game. Mario Kart is an exception.

But from the wiki: "Also, as with Game Boy games, some games that require both players to have a Nintendo DS Game Card for multiplayer play will not work together if the games are from different regions (e.g. a Japanese Nintendo DS game may not work with a North American Nintendo DS game, though some titles, such as Mario Kart DS, are mutually compatible). With the addition of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, certain games can be played over the Internet with users of a different region game."

For example, I do know some of my import games do not say "connect worldwide" but only say "connect with people in Japan" with no other options.

Not quite the world. DS wi-fi are region-limited oddly enough. So if you bought it in the US you could only play wi-fi with other US players.

The sites mentioned are severely lacking in doujin/Japanese PC games like the Touhou series and a lot of the Higurashi stuff (the original PC version only costs about $20 instead of $60-100 for the PS2 version). Similar situation with Fate/Stay Night. http://www.himeyashop.com/ and http://www.paletweb.com/ fill that void quite well, especially for non-console gamers like me.

Perhaps it's time they learn to stop wasting all that money on graphics and console games?

Let's see, Tsukihime and Higurashi both sold over 100,000 copies. Granted, they sell for like $10 in Japan, but the development costs certainly don't reach the $8m average for PS2 games stated in that article. These two are visual/sound novels (think choose-your-own-adventure books in game form really, but with computer enhancements).

Meanwhile, the Touhou game series is so popular it has its own annual conventions in Japan where all the fans sell music arrangements and other stuff based on the game (there's something to be said for having a culture that's not so anal on copyright like the US). The third one just happened this month. Keep in mind, the actual games are made by a single guy! Engine, artwork, and music. And that's with the game being a danmaku shmup, which isn't a very popular genre either (compared to FPS, RPG, RTS, or [ick] sports games). Example gameplay vid (my own)

But you apparently misunderstood my argument. I'm talking about YOU finding a few friends of your own and travelling in a gang so that when you DO get jumped, you actually have a fighting chance. Your friend scrambles and shuts down that lone decked out multi-billion ISK Tech II/Faction ship with full Tech II weaponry while you blow it up.

Ever heard of the phrase, don't fly what you can't afford to lose? That ship you lost should NOT affect you that greatly because of insurance. It's the equipment on it, and the improvement from equipment frankly does not scale with the price for it. Several hundred thousand isk per piece of ISK on your ship versus the the several hundred MILLION Tech II/Named equipment on their ships. What, you think Named equipment grows on trees?
