At Carnegie Mellon University, on March 14 (in celebration of the birthdays of Albert Einstein
and Waclaw Sierpinski - famed for his factal gasket), we also celebrate "pi-day". It's an attempt to write pi out to as many digits as possible on the sidewalks of the campus. In 2003, a group of students managed to write pi out to 8192 digits...I'm not sure how many digits were calculated & written on the sidewalks this year, but i suspect they broke last years record.
They're right, and you're wrong. It's a mindset like that that's gonna get you fucked over. "Oh, I run Linux, which is 100% bug and virus free. There's no *way* that I could have an insecurities on my box." You just keep telling youtself that. That and a tin foil hat will keep you safe. I really hope you're not in IT.
i'm not trolling, but can you elaborate on some other potential risks other than the samba share issue? you didn't seem to show any examples of how the poster was wrong.
Since copy-protected discs are not standard CDs, Apple Computer says they are not meant to be played on its products. In addition, repairs required to undo damage caused by such discs may not be covered by its warranties.
Apple designs its CD drives to support media that conforms to (published Compact Disc) standards. Therefore, any attempt to use nonstandard discs with Apple CD drives will be considered a misapplication of the product. Under the terms of Apple's one-year limited warranty, AppleCare Protection Plan, or other Apple Care agreements, any misapplication of the product is excluded from Apple's repair coverage.
Some copy-protected audio discs are causing Mac OS computers to start to a gray screen. In some cases, the discs will not easily eject from the computer.
oooooh, that was one of my favorites. & that's exactly how it was. cancel, no networking, add a new user, log off & back in, presto. back in the day, my boss thought i was a genious *picks nose*. well, i left the nose picking as an activity left to my office.
don't mod me as redundant, it's should be more like (mod +1 reminiscent).
I heard on NP radio 2 days ago, that residential advertising in a handful of states has already ceased. It's just a matter of time before you won't see a single commercial, in any of the states. Definitely his end with AT&T, & as another poster stated, we can only hope otherwise.:)
i'm assuming you're unlike the parent, you *do not* "sit your lazy butt in front of a computer all day and don't *ever* work out on purpose, thin, & don't have much muscle definition." i'm in fairly good shape & tried 20 pounds w/ 1 arm for only a few seconds *fully* extended (no bending at the elbow). i had no intention of holding it there for too long.:) also, the article states that he can maintain 6.6 pounds w/ each arm, my several being 19.8 to 26.4 pounds.
yeah, right. unless you're arms are 12" long, i don't believe you can fully extend a single arm & hold 20-26 pounds for more than a few seconds...if you can pick your arm up at all. go ahead & try this 1st before you reply.
Shutterfly, the online photo store backed by Netscape co-founder Jim Clark, does not support any version of Opera or Mozilla browsers, according to a warning displayed on the site this week.
this is one of my gripes about some websites. i noticed shutterfly has a "Click Next if you wish to skip future warnings and use Shutterfly with this unsupported browser." great, i can make the choice to puruse a sub-"standard" website if i still want to. sometimes i think they forget that they are offering goods/services that i can find somewhere else.
last month i bit the bullet & ordered all of the roms on a 6 dvd set from arcade-archive.com. it doesn't have the laserdisc games (i was hoping to play dragon's lair again), but all 4800ish games are on the disks w/ banners & the like. 23GB & endless hours of fun. shipping took about a week.
about 8 years ago, while still an undergrad, we had an os theory class where over the period of the semester implemented crude implementations of the various parts needed for a primitive os. it worked, albeit not wonderfully, but we were all quite proud with ourselves at the end of the semester. learned more in that one class, than nearly the rest combined.
who is slightly alarmed by the fact that gasoline is so flammable that all it takes is a little static electricity from sliding our asses across the seat to ignite the fumes? For chrissakes, oscillating fans were required to have grills on them years ago so we wouldn't do something dumb like sticking a body part into the blades (just to see how much it *might* hurt). I would just think there would be some special interest group that would be outraged & lobby against gasoline powered cars. Pffft, what are the inherent dangers associated with the operation & ownership of an electric car?
for my technically challenged friends (read still running windows), i have them jump on pricewatch for hardware firewall/routers. they can be typically purchased for about $25. at that cost (or less through software), there's no reason why everyone can't be protected.
i have a tendency to do that. my reply to the parent was not so much a rant (hence the smiley) as much as it was supposed to have been an acknowledgement that i was privy to the missing ad. apparently, i had failed to type a complete thought two times in a row.:(
sorry, it's near the end of my day & i was catching up on some news (read wasting some time). assuming bill's net worth of say $30 billion & to live next to him, your worth was say 1000th made completely from the $0.05 each 'As an MCSE I know', & you're 40 years old, that means you've heard 'As an MCSE I know' once every 2 seconds from the moment you were born! ouch, i'm very very sorry.
ReiserFS V3 is being obsoleted by V4, which is 2-5x times faster.
so what happens in this situation? will all v3 partitions need to have their data moved to another partition so that it can be reformatted or is there some sort of utility that namesys provides to ease migration?
i've also known vendors to sell feedback for a penny. essentially they sell a file they promise to send to you in email w/ a recipe or some other such nonsense.
So many people think they're actually funny rehashing a joke that wasn't funny to begin with.
what's unfortunate is that so many moderators agree w/ them.
the species turned out to be that known as "bigfoot" or that of a wookie.
You missed some digits at the end.

a blue screen would still be obvious though. ;)

go ahead & moderate me -1 redundant, the article posts have been lately.

in this real world example, your arms do have weight. :)

more an attempt of a smear campaign. If Microsoft's crusade is any proof, it's not working.

if they're creating the documents, you surely mean word or more likely LaTeX. :)

at least the ads were missing. long live slashdot.
