1. Other states copy this (not to mention the feds). 2. The RIAA gets some sense and backs down. 3. The public can enjoy their music without fear of being involved in a witch hunt.
I'm likely dreaming, but one can dream can't they?
... as he likely did this using stuff found on the Internet for giggles. Perhaps the authorities should focus on the real spybot ringleaders out there. You know the ones that work for organized crime and cause untold amounts of damage? Those are the ones we should worry about.
... But I simply don't see parents confronting Jobs they way that Ballmer was confronted at Gartner recently. Plus Pretty much every review on Leopard that I've read seems to be positive (more or less). I also did a quick Google Search using the terms "Leopard Problems" and came up with this list where most of these have solutions (unlike some of Vista's issues).
I say the article is FUD. Maybe John Hodgman paid him?
... But before anybody declares victory, let me point out that things could change in a heartbeat as this decision (if you can call it that as they are only considering it) could change if the RIAA exerts some mob like pressure on EMI. Also, the fact that they went public with this makes me think it's a PR shell game rather than something material in nature. Still, these are the guys who hopped onto the DRM free bandwagon first, so maybe there's something to it?
If you're in the pest control industry, you could do the following:
1. Discover a way to make mice not fear cats 2. Create a delivery system to get this into mice (much in the same way that you lay out poison for mice) 3. Encourage people to get both the delivery system and cats to solve their mouse problem. 4. ????? 5. Profit!
..... If an actual lawyer could comment on the possibility of any sort of lawsuit. While the article does reference this, it isn't clear if this could be done on a federal scale. That leaves the whole issue of a potential class action lawsuit up in the air IMHO.
Having said that, I hope it scares the crap out of Comcast (and any other ISP dumb enough to try this).
"And everyone gets the 'Ultimate' version, packed with all the new innovative features, for just $129."
Why does "The Steve" need to bash M$ & Vista at every opportunity? Is it to pander to Apple fanbois? Or does he secretly aspire to be Ballmer? Don't get me wrong, I have a Mac and I don't like M$ as much as the next/.'er, but the bashing of M$ and Vista is starting to get old.
"You are thinking about LINUX. Cancel or allow?" "You are thinking about switching to MAC. Cancel or allow?" "You are thinking about Ballmer and him dancing across a stage yelling developers and throwing chairs. Cancel or allow?"
.... Then I think I will try a different ISP. After all, what is good for the goose is good for the gander right?
.... as I actually find myself cheering for the evil WalMart empire who doesn't seem so evil at the moment.
My mind is going. I can feel it.

... If you needed common sense. Now it's basically the 51st state since Stephen Harper became Prime Minister (or "Steve" as GWB calls him). Too bad.
The good news is that the song "Blame Canada" will now have some real life relevance.

Now I'll have to find someplace else to hide my twisted fantasies.
.... So they can get to their next batch of potential employees before Ballmer does.
.... Because according to GWB, if they didn't then the terrorists win.
.... That schools that do not install this "tool" will get the lion's share of RIAA lawsuits?
After all, they do share the same code base. So it won't shock me if Apple is doing something similar there via the MAC address of the WiFi chipset.

Resistance is futile. Sadly, it won't make a difference IMHO.

Actually two of them:
1. What hardware/software would carriers have to use to do this?
2. Can it be defeated?
Fwiw, Rogers cable in Canada is rumored to be doing the same thing (and perhaps more). Michael Geist talks about this on his blog: http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/1859/
Three words: Reality Distortion Field.
Not likely, but you have the ability to get Leopard cheaply if you buy a Mac after October 1st.

... They didn't catch them stealing porn and filming their customers in the shower.
