The Doctors (My Sons Doctors) told me I had to, he had a liver transplant at 9 months old, and the risk of bringing hepatitis or CMV home even on my clothes to him who is immunosuppressed was to great a risk.
My father, a long time IT guy since '63 or so, told me when estimating a project development time take your original SNAP off the top of your head guess , double it , then double it again.
While I wont say its perfect it comes darn close when you take into account all the administrative overhead, meeting, decisions, etc.
And since MOST of us developers have a good idead of what our real capablities are. We want to blurt out an ego answer to ourselves, yeah 50 hrs, and if we were in a cage locked up with NOTHING else to do we probably could do it in that timeframe, but bathroom caffine breaks etc take their toll, errr troll
5.25 ???? Damm are you young, when someone says 5.25 disks I dont even think too old. Bring on the 8 Inchers, now those were the days they also fly great, late Friday afternoon we would all let loose by flying them around like frisbees, all fun and games till someone get a corner in the eye.
Well, belive it, all the times I screwed up I walked away without a scratch, once wass funny, I flipped through the air some 3 times and landed FLAT on my back , I didnt move a bit, then I started laughing realizing I wasnt even sore, the corner man thought from a distance I was convulsing so did the spectators, I was on my back laughing when they got to me.
All of those injuries are from 3 accident, the first , the jaw, a concussion, the elbow and 3 ribs was a chain splitting and getting locked in the rear wheel , the bike wet only went some 170 lbs, it flipped me over the bars then flipped on top of me, I was fine until the bike smashed down on top of me.
The other 2 came froma front brake binding and coming around a turn into crap that was on the track and loose (they were test and tune sessions and the track was far from clean) the bike shot out from under me and I went flying, one was due to a set of pads being set up wrong (actually they were set up right but for the WRONG kind of pads) on a vintage fixed caliper , A Grimeca if I remeber correctly) the other was a result of losing a small piece of plating on the caliper piston itself and it got stuck in the returen oriface for the brakes, BOTH times it caused the brakes to drag ever so slightly but at 80 mph it dosent take much for just a little drag to cause them to heat up , and iun turn bind more.
Yep it works, when I wear shorts to work (its at fingertip level on my left thigh) I will grab a CCD for fun and show some guys at work, it used to work with a CueCat but dosent anymore but its about 8 years old, a CCD Wand grabs it just fine, it was done in several visits actually and by a VERY good artist, the funny thing is it actually didnt work till it was 3 months old.
Thats funny, but whats REALLY Funny is when I was about 15 and I just got my scuba certification a friend tried to get me into skydiving, I said well I already enduldge in 2 of the 5 most dangerous sports, (that was at the time Scuba was #3 I think and Racing was #4) So I said no, about 10 years later he said well since you dont dive anymore and I've been skydiving for 10 years and NEVER hurt myself how about giving it a try , OK I said and gave him some $250 bucks for the hotel and rental, he called me the weekend before he called and said he had to cancel, I was disappointed because I had pumped myself up for it, I asked him why , he had shattered both his legs in a bad landing, after that I no longer had ANY desire to try it.
Motorcycle racing, actually Ive never hurt myself in a race , only in dorking around in practice and nearly all have been due to mechanical failure. In addition to my mentioned head injuries, I've broken my elbow, wrist, 10 ribs (at various times of course) my jaw, my right foot (twice) a couple of fingers and toes and had my knees so tore up I'm 33 and looking at knee replacments (actually I should say looking forward to then the damm things wont hurt anymore)
But its all been worth it, I've had a blast Ive been racing since I was 9 , first Junior MX, Then by 14 Flat Track, then I got into Road Racing and I'm still doing it, although in the last 2 years I've raced Vintage, probably will till I croak, Ive actually thought SERIOUSLY about doing the Isle of Man TT, but I havent had a sponsor (other than contingency sponsors) since I was 18
Dont laugh, I have my SS# on my leg.....yes for real.....
Why ? I was bored, and had a scar that needed covered, I couldnt think of anything that wouldnt be lame skulls etc, non my taste, so I figured If I ever get amnesia it would be nice to have (in case your wondering I'v had maybe 4 concussions, been declared dead once and had a skull fracture, perhaps THAT explains why I had my SS# put on my leg) in addiditon just in case noone has a scanner handy it is also printed in digits below as well.
WOW, Thanks, I am serious I never knew or carde to know what it meant, but a favorite motorcycle of mine was called the Rickman Metisse, there were actually many Rickman Metisse models throught the years and they were as you say the word suggests an amalgamation of different parts to build a wonderfully fast an superbly handling bike....hmmm thanks.
Now as a note on the WM, I was excited about Sun's GPL Launch , Ive got lots of horsepower to have all the bells and whistles, but I was even more excited by a perhaps superior prospect in this one, UNFORTUNATLEY I now know where they are using their CPU Cycles its rendering screen shots instead of powering the webserver.
Lol, well let me tell you a little about that, bikes get good gas mileage on the highway , my CB500TR gets about 50 mpg, my FZR about 35-40, in the city ? forget it I've never really checked but I swear my FZR gets about 10 in the city, I had a GPZ1100 granted it was 150 horse fuel injected J motor with aftermatket cams and pistons it REALLY did get 10 in the city and never more than 25 on the highway. gas stations become an all to often sight when you can only carry a couple of gallons, although I am sure being 6'2" and 260 lbs dosent add to the aerodynamics.
What is losing massive market share are the large road slugs that the Japs have tried to pump out in volume to drown the Harley, they are nice pretty but well theyre not a Harley, there are a LOT of reasons for the harley mystique, 1 is its TOTAL lack of technological dependece. I can but a new Harley, throw in an aftermarket cam, heads, swap the carb and tinker with it to my hearts desire. Try that with a Jap bike....yeah right.
That said I am not a fan of any of those large bikes, what is however gaining ground are the smaller utility bikes, like the japanese sold like nuts in the late 60's and early 70's oddly many of those bikes are being imported and sold en-masse from China, heck I just bought my sone one for christmas, a 50cc electric start monoshock , brand new for $450 DELIVERED !
Motorcycles are far from dying, far from it , take it from someone who has been on 2 wheels since he was 9 , personally I could care less who rides and who dosent, I ride for myself.
Cycling has had its ups and downs in the 20's and 30's there were an absurd amount of compaines making bikes, only the strong and luck survived, the 50's were the same as the 70's as the early 90's as now.....Cycling dosent DIE its tastes just change from time to time.
I own a rare Honda (yes there is such a thing) it was one of only 1200 made and mine was the ONLY one with this color it was special ordered and one of the last 10 off the assy line. I also own a rice rocket a newer FZR600 . I dont own and never will any road hogs, my GPZ1100 and ELR were my only beasts.
Know a little about what youre talking about before you parrot "Cycling is dead"
UNLESS It was a joke and in that case it was very funny indeed
In the DotCom era someone devoting and actual working 24 Hr period to concept design and deployment is MUCH MORE than I swear some companies did back then, and Im sure they didnt make the FATAL dotcom mistake of changing their business model 9 times a month, hey they only had 24 hrs, so maybe 2 changes..........
Well sort of, the Red Hat enterprise has always had at least a 5 year lifecycle. I bough RHEL 3 for just this reason, I was sick of EOL upgrades that left me in a mess, like the RH 8 Upgrade, what a joke it never made it to production we downgraded to 7.3 till RHEL 3 was released.
Yeah we had one of those old old teachers, we finally drove her to retire, I could never figure it out though we musta put 100 tacks on her chair at different times EVERY time they were bent, we used to say she had lead brithces )I know lead is soft but cmon we were in second grade) , Finally I got a serious whaching when I mixed ink from a pen, nasal spray and original crazy glue together and painted a matchbox car with it , while it was drying we were pushing it back and forth accross the desk by the bumper and she walked over and grabbed it, went to throw it in the trash and it was major league stick to her hand, she ended up with a bandage on her hand and I got my first "whacking" at the pincipals office, NOW THAT WAS TOY MODDING FOR FUN AND PROFIT !
Well I cant remeber where I saw it first, MSNBC or the like , Im going to say some 6 months ago it had to do with an interpretation of "Article 175 of the Japanese Penal Code forbids publishing of "morally damaging" material" AND provisions in the passing of the "Protecting Children Online law" in 1999
Probably search for recent rulings by the Supreme Court of Japan
Good news if you ask me , I cant see any redeeming value in any of the anime porn for adults and especially children, just wait till you have too keep your kids away from it.
I forgot about the laser, I also had the Dump truck trailer that plugged into what looked like an Audio Plug at the top rear of the BigTrak , that actuator sequence is what I used to raise it "tray"
My BigTrak was the first thing I ever hacked, I even bough up[ everyone I could from kids in the neighborhood, as well as garage sales etc. I actually built my first robot using parts from a BigTrak, it was much like a Hero and I used a modified Armitron (Which I just bought my son ne just like mine from an antique dealer he loves it)
I never in my like imagined there was anyone else out there who hacked a BigTrak I was about 10 when they came out and it was my dad's idea, he came home after we had discussed buying a Hero Kit to find I had pulled my armitron and BigTrak apart and was mocking up the Body of the robot, another 6 months and we had something nearly as cool as a real Hero, at least to me:)
"but I could be wrong", youre right.... youre wrong, they recently ruled that you cannot draw children in sexual acts, this includes anime. Previously it was a grey area, no longer
Hey I use a ton of GPL software, I wouldnt PAY for it Im serious no flamebait, , BUT I also write and contribute software under many free licenses, so THAT my gift back to the "Open Source Movement" if you want to call it that.
I have seen "Free" software that it is almost EXPECTED by the author that he get a "Donation" for it, kinda irks me and usually It gets dumped, If you want to charge for it FINE but dont try and hide it behind the guise of free software then BEG for green.
I wonder how much problme REGULAR donations to EVERYONE involved in now free software would , I dono taint ? them to where they change to only a paid programming model ?
If it gets cracked. I cant imagine anyone who had ACCCESS to ust this password having used it, the fact that were all still here shows it was perfectly secure, dont forget its not like some script kiddie could hop on the "Net" and use this password. There were some SERIOUS layers of physical security.
Im serious, between paying cash where possible, that includes nearly EVERY local purchase, trade you key tags for grocery stores with your friends (as long as they arent valid for cashing checks)
No tinfoil here I just cant stand direct marketing, why in the hell should I give Radio Shack my phone number, I actually had a clerk say they HAD to ge one, 555-1212 or 867-5309 (867 is a local extension here) is my answer most of the time they dont even blink although some chuckle
Lay as low as possible, p[ay cash where possible and lie like hell when anyone asks any questions that could be used in targeted marketing.
Dont forget they found one of the 911 conspirators by his grocery store key thingy
The Doctors (My Sons Doctors) told me I had to, he had a liver transplant at 9 months old, and the risk of bringing hepatitis or CMV home even on my clothes to him who is immunosuppressed was to great a risk.
I used to be a plumber and pipefitter, knee deep in crap all day long, and YES I would consider that a better position than mine as an IT Manager
My father, a long time IT guy since '63 or so, told me when estimating a project development time take your original SNAP off the top of your head guess , double it , then double it again.

If I do can I patent the EVIL portion ?
A car that when you glare at someone it RUNS THEM OFF THE ROAD, Now that I would buy.
Aside from that feature which I do not see listed the whole thing is well....

Hmm I hope this is a joke ?

I think they mean a 10 year LIFECYCLE, there is a big difference between 10 years from the date released and 10 years from NOW
Yeah we had one of those old old teachers, we finally drove her to retire, I could never figure it out though we musta put 100 tacks on her chair at different times EVERY time they were bent, we used to say she had lead brithces )I know lead is soft but cmon we were in second grade) , Finally I got a serious whaching when I mixed ink from a pen, nasal spray and original crazy glue together and painted a matchbox car with it , while it was drying we were pushing it back and forth accross the desk by the bumper and she walked over and grabbed it, went to throw it in the trash and it was major league stick to her hand, she ended up with a bandage on her hand and I got my first "whacking" at the pincipals office, NOW THAT WAS TOY MODDING FOR FUN AND PROFIT !
