There's a downside and an upside to everything...for me its a real simple cost issue. It would cost me at least 3x more per month on my phone bill (if not more) with a regular PTSN line than my VoIP connection...AND of course I can take my number with me wherever I go...try that with a regular phone line C|Net FUD mongers!!
The poster got this a bit mixed up. The DNS updates are a VeriSign issue...Network Solutions, though once a VeriSign company is a completely seperate company now.
One of the things the XFree86 tyrant touted was that Slackware still used his 'stuff' - i wonder what he'll do now.
If you look at the current page of distros using XFree86 you'll be hard pressed to find one that is in common usage - pretty sad considering that until the moron decided to mess around with license it was the defacto standard on every Linux distribution
Goes to show you...don't mess around with licenses....Freedom is Freedom and that's what FOSS is all about.
You don't need to buy it. Just compile Debian Sid and buy Codeweaver you really need the Microsoft 'familiarity'. It's alot cheaper and Codeweaver actually develops 'stuff' and support WINE. Unlike Xandros that just resells stuff and doesn't give back to the FOSS community.
I live on IRC and sure as 'hell' don't consider myself to be evil. This lame ass journo probably got flamed and didn't know what do to. IRC is better than IM and is used by anyone and everyone in the dev community. I can't imagine participating in any of the FOSS projects that I do without IRC - it just wouldn't be possible.
Speaking of which, is there a/. specific channel on Freenode?
I've been running a VMware type app - which is a serious pain in the ass and never got it to run quite right - if the Red Hat guys get it right that'll be worth the price right there.
This story would make you believe that the Red Hat Desktop is a Longhorn killer. Basically if you read the whole Red Hat release it looks like $250 a user for a year of desktop support - which doesn't sound all that bad to me for a large environment...
Wild crazy story - and then there was a poster early on who mirrored the site - which by the way still won't load...
I'm not about to change my Camaro into a freakin water car..but if anyone has any links to how I can add a do-it-yourself hyperdrive, I'd very interested.
Ever see that South Park episode where Cartman gets Mr. Worf to help them 'drive to freedom' ?
Of course klingons are real...I had my Betleth could reach though the/. interface I'd show you just how real.
Listen Sol - i didn't contribute any such slander - maybe you were reading someone else's post and got confused...Why don't you call the freakin OSDL and ask them why they fired Quandt? Or call them and ask them for a reference on her? - I'm sure they'll be glad to tell you.
If you're looking for slander -here's this- you're a fucking asshole. Now go away and bother some other poster.
Sure - here's one - http://lwn.net/Articles/49747/
do a google search on her name and you'll see a few more. She was a high profile hire at OSDL and then she got turfed - it's that simple. I don't know about you but that doesn't say a whole lot about her credibility. Makes her look like a quack, a washed up hag so far as I'm concerned.
Nice how the article doesn't refer to the fact that she was booted out of OSDL cause she knows jack shit about Linux.

qmail is nice but it's not ubiquitous...for whatever reason sendmail still is - a correctly configured sendmail setup is still gonna meet the needs/requirements of most users.

I've been running sendmail 4ever - sure it's complicated as hell - and a bit of a resource hog at times..but it freaking works and is rock solid over more years of production use than any other MTA ever will be in our lifetimes.
ha! right you are. Mitnick is old school in a bad way..What was the essence of his scam again? A bunch of SOCKS chained proxies ? There isn't a script kiddie on the planet that can't replicate that today.
i'm a lugnut sorry - wrong link in the previous post the correct isc link is http://www.isc.org/about/press/?pr=2004042000 guess that's why you're supposed the preview and test your links right? aaaugh that's gotta be a karma killer
Umm it's pretty darn stable - i think that's why the ISC made the public press release . A BIND release candidate from the ISC is more mature than 98% of all proprietary shrink wrapped software that you gotta pay for. I'm running it just fine, thank you very much and it kicks ass.
My server could never withstand/.'ing and i don't want to be one of those lamers that posts a link that can't handle the traffic.... I got some great Orionid and Perseid shots last yr too...
This is great stuff dude!! You should really get it listed on Sourceforge.net or at least as a project on Freshmeat. I'd be happy to contribute to it to..as i'm sure others would be. GPL is the way it's gotta be..NO MORE PROPRIETARY BS..open or free is how it should be...
Aren't there enough proprietary 3d formats already! It's time for an open source / free software GPL type format. Maybe SGI now that they love Linux can work with the community to free up some of their proprietary standards and make it really happen.

so Nemesis was the last TNG movie? that's a shame...I think it all went downhill after , All Goods Things Must Come to An End, anyway..

Find an old 486 with a working CD in the trash. Boot up LiveLINUX CD Router and voila - you've got an access point without spending any dough.

This article looks at the end of the line for Red Hat LInux 9 and includes an interview with project leads for the Fedora Legacy project.
