  2. Tech may help the sex offender stay out of trouble on Tracking Sex Offenders via GPS for Life · · Score: 1

I think that it could actually be really helpful to a sex offender knowing when they are approaching an area where they aren't supposed to be and help them stay away from temptation. A green led could be lit when everything is cool, it would turn yellow and emit a tone when one gets to close to a restricted area and then emit mild electric shock once a restricted area is entered. Also a service could be offered to allow people to track the location of a sex offender as they walk around and possible when one enters the general vicinity neighborhood etc and warn parents. I don't think a name should be given just a warning and maybe a mug so people can know when they could be under threat. The police can keep track and the offenders have assistance staying out of trouble.

A program that offered trade in value on current machines to buy macs would be helpfull. Mostly if you give people the right infromation in they waqy they can digest it it will help as far as getting the users to go along with it. Also mabye a site licence for some sort of really good virus protection and require people to use it in order to use the network.

Don't get me wrong there is a good motivation behind not wanting free copying of copyrighted media but requiring somebody to encrypt something to listen to it when they have it locally unencrypted on there computer serves no end but to make people less interested in the product. The best way to prevent large scale piracy is to offer a value added product. Pay the money and get good quality music on a CD, rip it yourself and get to keep the pretty pictures. Its all about making something that people WANT to purchase and make it worth the money to do so.

One of the most inportant things to take into consideration in the future is to biuld a network that by using open firmware upgradable hardware to reduce the cost of supporting new and faster protocols like WI-MAX and whatever is coming next. This would allow for the network to meet the demands of incresing bandwith usage and reliability concerns for years to come. There is nothing like installing a multimillion dollar 802.11.b network only to find that it can't keep up with the usage demands. Another idea is in order to keep things free to require people to donate a few extra cpu cycles to the government in return by using java based distributed computing.

They would have the same sort of situation I experienced when I installed snort and turned on everything. Spade was freaking out at me about once every 5 seconds, I was getting warnings about unicast ARP attacks and port-scans all over the place. How can you tell what constitutes a packet containing illicit transmissions? There would be so many false alarms that they wouldn't be able to do anything with that data. What if it was an encrypted communication? They can't just flag all encrypted stuff because legitimate transactions are encrypted all the time. A lot of people doing nothing wrong would be put under suspicion no matter what algorithm they were using. Therefore doing what is described is next to impossible.

However once you started talking about placing limits on who can buy a Mac it kinda ruined it for me. As far as i am concerned the more people that switch to Mac the better. What could possibly make someone "not worthy" of owning a Mac? It shouldn't matter if you don't have 3000 smackers lying around or not, I happen to be lucky enough to have a 12 that was given to me by a very caring person and I have never been able to afford such a nice machine on my own. So I guess if I go by what you are saying I don't fit the proper criteria. Everyone should have the ability to use the best platform available. Regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation, gender or financial situation. Its nice to see the Mac becoming a platform worthy of the masses. People with PCs often make life more difficult for everyone by sending us spam from their zombified computers or making it possible to bring the net to a grinding halt with one packet. Not to mention the problably substantial amount of many nation's GDP being wasted on "securing" Windows and cleaning up the messes it leaves behind. Thanks Microsoft! The question I really want to ask you is this? Is it the Mac that isn't worthy to be mainstream or the mainstream that doesn't deserve the Mac? Niter I say! But the first bit is a chilling conclusion that one could draw from your statements.

I think that a lot of the patents on software out there now are invalid. That calls into question the whole idea of patents in general. The idea behind a patent is that it is not to be awarded to an obvious perviously available or generic concept, product, or process. For instance, M$ has been patenting things as silly as the double click and automatic software updates as well as claiming ownership over networking protocols that have become ubiquitous. If a company desires to hold valuable intellectual property than it should now allow its IP to be used without limitations. Basically, what I mean is that if for example that if UNIX were not to be released to other licensing agreements and development forks it would not have become a generic, thus invalidating any patents and trademarks involved.
