I buy hardcovers for certain specific authors that I really like, because I want to read the book now and not when the paperback comes out, and because I want to have a durable copy of the book that I'm confident will last my lifetime.
eBooks? I don't really buy them, because I don't do DRM. The eBooks I do have are either classics that are freely available online, or copies produced from scans of paper books that I already have in my collection. I use Calibre to convert the PDFs or whatever format I end up with to MOBI, which works well for both FBReader on my OLPC and on my wife's Kindle.
A laptop that sits on a desk 24/7 (like most of them do) isn't being used as a portable device and doesn't need wireless in the home. If you can plug in a power connector you can certainly plug in an ethernet cable too. Heck, a docking station even takes care of that for you.
"Why can't we push all this short range, high bandwidth stuff onto 5GHz?"
I really wish you wouldn't. I prefer to keep the 5GHz band wide-open for the unimpeded use of my own 5GHz devices. I bought them specifically to avoid 2.4GHz clutter!
Basic orbital mechanics is that ANYTHING launched away from the Earth that doesn't achieve solar system escape velocity WILL come back to us eventually, so long as it doesn't hit something else or have it's orbit perturbed by passing too close to another large body.
"I would think that they must have some concern for their reputation."
Why would the last giant retailer in it's niche have some concern for their reputation? I mean, where else are people who don't know anything about technology but like to think they do going to go? An Apple store?
Have you tried the OLPC? While the XO certainly has other shortcomings, it's rotary joint seems very solid to me. I'm constantly flipping mine back and forth as I switch between web-surfing and e-reading.
Hardcovers? Who buys hardcovers?

The current generation wants movies to play on their Kindles.
Kairo? Is that the KDE version of Cairo?
I thought those came in pints.
Maybe somebody with pull will finally realize how stupid software patents are and get them abolished?

I don't mind if the guys on the space station piggyback off my wireless network, so long as they're not torrenting.

Oh, I don't know... maybe it's the current total lack of fusion reactors that would use it for fuel?
It'll be easy. Just don't buy anything with "Ubisoft" on the box and the problem goes away (hopefully, along with the company).
Well, that plan wouldn't sell any new copies of Win7, now would it?
If the worker is the robot, the only thing left to design ergonomically is Mars.
Yeah, they've got their own custom OS... Goobuntu.

At least we've still got Omega.
D'oh!!!
Anyone got a sextant I can borrow?

What if there's an earthquake? That just means it's time to drink more... I mean, er, procure more building materials!
Sounds like positive thinking to me.
To be fair, it's been pretty decent for a couple of years now, so it "only" took them SEVEN years to get it going good.
Shall we... play... a game?

Highly irate but factually incorrect ranting.
I bet this was submitted by kdawson.
Yep. How'd I guess that?
Many Cubans are offended that you have lumped them in with the French.
I think we used to spend our summers together in Eagle River!
They should be commended for their green initiative!
