I'm posting this from an Acer dual booting Vista (came with it, never used), and Linux (Ubuntu Fiesty, in use right now). For the record, Ubuntu picked up every piece of hardware perfectly, including the webcam, wireless card and special function buttons - it's like a first party OS.
Exactly my thoughts. What's to stop me resting it on a regular surface? I already use my wireless, optical mouse on any surface to hand (papers, pizza box, my leg), so this would just be an extension of that.
Joking aside, I've only ever owned one Motorola product (the L7 SLVR), and it's so awful it's unlikely I'll ever buy another Motorola product/have anything to do with the company if I can help it again.
Making cellphones ("mobiles" to all but the US) can't be that hard, surely. Nokia, Samsung, LG, all manage it fine. Even Sony makes a good stab at it! Motorola have no excuse for sucking as bad as they do.
But you're not forced to use Canadian Apple either! If you don't like Apple's policy, don't use them. There are plenty of other methods of obtaining music.
But it's only being "forced" on you if you want to use Apple products. Since Apple is an American company, I don't see that you've any cause to complain. I won't buy anything DRM'd because I don't want DRM in stuff I own, so I can't see me ever using iTMS. It's a non-issue! If the iPod would only play FairPlay files, your complaint would be slightly more valid, but then, my reply would become "so don't buy an iPod"...
At that time, many in the UK saw Labour (Blair) as the only option, this to the point where Liberal (a third party in US terms) loyalists would vote for Blair just out of hatred for Howard's conservatives.

What the heck do you need a wireless mouse for, anyway?
I've just bought a wireless mouse as it happens. The benefit I've found (obviously), is that I can just pick it up and us it more comfortably while I'm sat at my desk. For example, this slashdot comments page is very long, and I'm not going to be typing or clicking much, so rather than sitting upright, I'm leaning back and scrolling the wheel with my thumb, with my hand at 90 degrees to the normal position. I can also (as it's optical), control the cursor using my shirt as the surface, which means unless I need to type something, if I'm just sitting reading on the web, I can recline in my chair.
This may seem slightly petty and lazy, and indeed it's not what I bought the mouse for (check it out!), but it's just more comfortable. I will not be purchasing wired mice at all in future.
It's getting to the stage now where I know people who say "Skype" when they mean "VoIP/SIP". Admittedly, it's early days in terms of adoption of the technologies, but this is a little worrying. Seems like very few people in the real world have any concept of open standards etc.
Very cool sig. Many a true word spoken in jest, I strongly think that too much time spent on the Internet learning to overlook/translate others gibberish has made me make more mistakes.
have yet to meet a single person who really likes the user interface of Gnome
I like it. Didn't read the rest of your post as the writing style and lack of formatting really grates.

I think it's supposed to be the "all your base" thing?
? He used numbers see.
Yes, I expect so...

It's like people just like to complain.
What's this news!?

Yeah, but then I got to read it all again. (Actually, this happened to me a while ago and I still forget).
Then the customer would still be forced to buy a Windows licence, which would (partly) defeat the purpose.
Gah! yeah, look at the times. I even searched to make sure!
Finally, an excuse to post this xkcd strip:

I think parent was referring to the 2005 UK General Election. See the (then) leader of the opposition:

"I have to keep the mouse on a flat surface, I can hold the keyboard on my lap".
Get a better mouse then! I can use my mouse on my lap too.
Immediately. :)

Yeah, yeah, I got it, was quite funny, in a way. It's just the fact that your comment was so unexpected/out of place in the rest of the discussion!
WTF!?

Yeah I wonder.
Aside from being funny, that's one of the most insightful things I've read in a while.
As the size of the sample increases, the average opinion of the group approaches the actual utility of the product in question.
Superb.
I remember someone at school copying a link to Internet Explorer to a floppy and believing he had successfully copied the whole internet. Idiot.
