Our local radio station are quite funny sometimes, they "went out onto the streets" to find out what people thought the Queen would play. Half said the national anthem, the rest didn't care or couldn't think of anything (they actually played samples of people going "errr, i dunno").
Seems they were as aware as everyone else: this isn't even news.
To be honest, I don't think it's hatred even. It might be a reference to the idea that Americans seem to reasonlessly (it seems to me as a Brit) hate the french, but... it's just not funny. I really don't think it's genuine hatred though.
Indeed. One of the ONLY advantages of VHS over DVD is that you can take out a tape, watch something else, put the tape back in and watch immediately from exactly where you were. Can't do that with DVD.
I think you can use a romfile IF it came from a romdump of the cart you own. Even if you download a rom you own the cart of, that would still be illegal.
The actual olympics committee isn't all about the money, it's about the sport. It only appears to be about the money because you can't get the games properly in America.
the atheletes use steriods have you actually WATCHED any of the news surrounding this?! there was a huge furore about two Greek athletes who didn't attend a urine test, SOME of the athletes take drugs, but for the games themsleves, we can be extremely confident they are drug free....broadcast the games for free all over the world, etc. It will never happen... It will never happen because it costs money to distribute them, and because someone has to pay for all this! You think it was cheap to build that huge stadium or for Greece to host this!? I'm pleased that the BBC are paying a small fortune so that I can see what little of the events I'm interested in. I'm confident that this is a worthy use of my license fee.
have gotten so disgustingly commercial Again, it's not the GAMES themselves, just the coverage. (Although the advertising thing was a little overly strict and unexpected). I can watch the BBC's coverage at any time and see no adverts beyond the ones already there... How can you think it's commercial.
America is commercial, and that's YOUR problem. Don't confuse the coverage of the games you're seeing with the games themselves.
If I were eBay, the first thing I'd "suggest" to craig is that the website he totally redesigned... that is one ugly site.
I know the content is more important than layout blah blah, but compare the visual impact of ebay's listings pages to craigslist... like i said: one ugly site.
BBC do something like this already. Their "Listen Again" service lets you listen to any BBC Radio show broadcast in the last week. You can't (easily) save the content, but anyone who just wants to catch a show they missed the previous day or whatever (which I do all the time), can do. I guess you could find a work-around to save the content, even if it's just to run an audio recorder... Audacity is OSS and popular I here.
Wow... I didn't realise I was paying so much! I pay £0.10 per SMS (so... 1.2NOK) (also, I don't pay for the first five of each day), and £0.30 per MMS, but there are cheaper MMS providers here, so I think mine will go down soon. The talking rates vary massively depending on time of day, who you're calling etc... maybe unfair to compare that. Also, I don't pay a subscription, though I can choose to. Looking back at my post, the companies just make the pricing schemes as complicated as possible, so that people won't ask questions... can't believe the difference in GPRS price though. Also, I'm on PayAsYouGo, I guess that makes it more expensive. Grr..
The Reason it's only just starting to catch on...

is that vendors are only just starting to really make the effort with their portal services. For example, I (in the UK), am on Orange, it's only recently that the majority of people have had WAP compatible phones, so it's only recently Orange have really made the effort to provide a decent WAP service. Add to this the slow (but now nearly there) uptake of GPRS, and it's not surprising it's taken until now for WAP to become popular. I've only just started to use it myself.
Another reason it's use is picking up (I would think...) is that you can buy java games, ringtones, graphics etc from your provider via WAP, which is now a big business.
Why do people always make that arguement? Having more features MIGHT make the UI ugly or difficult, but it doesn't have to. I have a Sagem MyX-7, the UI is fine. I agree that sometimes manufacturers make crap UI's, but not all do, and that's not a reason to reduce the number of features. To clarify my point slightly... it's ok to have more features, so long as the UI doesn't suffer, which it doesn't always.
chill the hell out. it was just a semi-interesting article with big numbers in it. it didn't make the front page, it's not in anyone's way, and I enjoyed reading the article for the sake of ir. It doesn't have to be accurate/useful whatever. why make a big fuss?
Don't they know it is not the casual user of tivo they need to be worried about but the hacker type, who has the utmost capability
Yeah they should definately worry about a tiny minority over everyone else. Think about how many "hackers" there are as a proportion of the number of TiVo users, they're not a focus as it's such a small number.
Gallery all the way! It's written in PHP, is a dream to install and use, you can have keywords, captions, descriptions, a user system, all within it. Also, it does resizing + image formatting on the fly. IMO, one of it's greatest assets, and the reason I use it on my site (check it out as a working demo if you like), is that it integrates perfectly with PHP-Nuke.
As you may have guessed though, I'm PHP-loving, so this may or may not suit you!
I too wasn't over-impressed with Picasa (though it looks very pretty). I wondered if it would benefit my parents on their XP box (I use gThumb for myself), but it's not even as useful as the free catalogue program Kodak bundled with the camera.

That site just isn't funny... It's not even satirical. Maybe I don't get it?
Ah true. Still, it's just a feature of the format, I wasn't trying to defend VHS over DVD.
Indeed. One of the ONLY advantages of VHS over DVD is that you can take out a tape, watch something else, put the tape back in and watch immediately from exactly where you were. Can't do that with DVD.

I think the parent, like me, had a knee jerk reaction to ZSNES being called "the best". To be honest, they all do the same job, I just prefer Snes9X.
ZSNES has a better name though...
I just went on the link you suggested, the first thing I saw was:
# multiple perssonality disoder
# multiple personality disorder
So one of them can spell and one can't?
What, like ATi you mean?

To be fair, if you pay per meg on GPRS it's a lot cheaper, and faster.
2 EURO PER MEG!?!!?!?
That's like £1.50! I pay £4/meg in the UK!!!!!
What provider are you on?

And it makes navigating the UI a chore.

At least all the Clie research didn't go to waste.
But then again, that thing is so ugly compared to later Clie's.
If you were actually driving at the time it would be pretty weird I guess...
I was in your situation, but I sometimes go on the Gentoo Forums, there has been talk of this announcement for a few days.
Don't they know it is not the casual user of tivo they need to be worried about but the hacker type, who has the utmost capability

If North Korea is an independent country (as I understand it is), why does it not have it's own top level domain...? .nk? .nkr?
