    Because the workers needed to make the Gig Economy (TM) haven't embraced it?

    Except that here in Washington State, they tried to push a bunch of self employed people out of that category and into being employees. And these people went to the state capital and screamed about how their lives would be ruined by losing control of their own work. And the state gave up the effort.

    That's like saying my 6 month software engineering contracts are 'gig ' economy

    But that's how many of the commenters are using the term. And since there is no legal distinction between being a self-employed contractor and a gig worker, its the same thing.

    Oh and you should be required to own gun insurance.

    Got it. Its part of my homeowners liability policy. And the increased risk is so far down in the statistical noise level that my insurance agent says they don't bother to ask about gun ownership.

    ... depends on your profession and skill level. If you drive a cab or deliver pizzas, it's not for you. You can always be replaced at a moments notice. But if you have a unique skill set or a noteworthy contributor in your profession, it can work out quite well. You are responsible for your own benefits, retirement fund and scheduling vacations. But if you can demand adequate compensation to cover these things, being a gig worker (self employed) is really the way to go.

    It's also better for part time work, where you can pick up a contract whenever you want. Uber was supposed to be like this. Ride sharing whenever you had some time and a spare seat in your car. But too many people turned it into a way around cities cab regulations to become full time taxi drivers.

    If it's an unknown cell, or otherwise suspicious,

    Track the call to its destination. Turn that information over to law enforcement for further investigation.

    All calls to/from prisons may be monitored for security purposes. So extend this to calls involving contraband cell phones in prisons. And make a few organized crime, gang and drug busts on the outside.

    Not really subverted equipment. It's a portable cell transceiver that can be located close enough to the target phone to force that phone to force that phone to negotiate with itself as the closest cellular base station.

    There are no Saudi Arabia mobile phone spies here.

    Lots of private investigators. And some moonlighting cops that can borrow equipment. All for hire. If you think only the Feds and law enforcement have Stingrays, I have a bridge to sell you.

    I'll be getting rid of all of my smart phones for flip phones.

    As even a small target, I'm amazed that you ever started using a smart phone in the first place. It's one of the things that the security people advised me to avoid. Back in the early days of smart phones.

    The total amount of plastic going into bags goes way down.

    Goes way up you mean. All the Glad trash bag commercials brag about how thick and strong they are. And how you can carry bowling balls and other crap around in them. If all I need is something to contain dog poop, I'd rather not reach for the super heavy duty bags.
