Tinder Announces New 'Height Verification' Feature. But They May Be Lying (gotinder.com)
"The Tinder dating app will soon be asking men to submit photos in order to verify their height," writes long-time Slashdot reader SonicSpike, sharing a post made Friday (March 29th) on the official Tinder blog.
Let's be real, when it comes to online dating -- honesty is the best policy. Yes, your height matters as long as every other shallow aspect of physical attraction does. Please try not to take it to heart...
Height-lying ends here. To require everyone under 6' to own up to their real height, we're bringing truthfulness back into the world of online dating. Introducing Tinder's Height Verification Badge (HVB), because yes -- sometimes it matters. It's the tool we've had in our back-pockets for years, but we were hoping your honesty would allow us to keep it there... Simply input your true, accurate height with a screenshot of you standing next to any commercial building. We'll do some state-of-the-art verifying and you'll receive your badge directly on your profile.
Oh, and by the way? Only 14.5% of the U.S. male population is actually 6' and beyond. So, we're expecting to see a huge decline in the 80% of males on Tinder who are claiming that they are well over 6 feet.
The post concludes that "Tinder's HVB is coming soon to a phone near you," and Tinder's official Twitter account described the feature as "the thing you never asked for, but definitely always wanted," with a short video showing their app displaying errors for incorrect heights. (The second error message reads "Seriously... Please enter your correct height.") The video has been viewed 2.78 million times. Its tagline? "Let's bring honesty back to dating."
"It's unknown at this point if this is a real feature that the company is adding to its dating app," reported one local news site, "or an early April Fool's joke."

Honesty is the best policy? How about you clean up the ladies bios and pictures? Oh - the picture looks like you weigh 100 pounds less? Must be the camera angle.
The shepherds did so well protecting the flock that the sheep no longer believed that wolves existed.
Let's face it, thousands of women on that platform are surely lying about their weight. They use "Myspace angles" to hide in pictures in order to deceive potential matches.
So, let's be fair and make sure women tell the truth.
It's April 1st in Australia
where the company wants to float an idea that might be offensive but wants plausible deniability in case it is.
Hi! I make Firefox Plug-ins. Check 'em out @ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-mp3-podcaster/
Ummm you know what they say, tall man, tall penis. Your results may vary ;)
For sure...
I should stay offline until 2nd.
People faking stuff about their body might get an more easy date.
But get kicked instantly in the ass when they actually have a date.
So what is the point?
The funny thing is, you fake something to impress someone you don't know who is actually interested into the opposite ... fail.
What you think how many people I know who like tiny woman, but they add 10cm on their profile? Or woman who try to impress with breasts, but the guy actually likes small sizes?
Same for men, just don't find a good example, probably coloured hair. Grey hair does not look bad in the right context ... same with no hair.
Running around faking something you are not, trying to impress someone you like, but might be interested in just the opposite you fake, plain stupid.
Cost free eBook I read (by iBook/Kobo/Amazon/ObookO/Gutenberg etc.): "The Green Odyssey" by Philip Jose Farmer.
To keep it safe and friendly, male patrols will be required to show a ruler placed on their hand as the length of the hand is also an indication of the length of the penis.
Similarly the arm span from from finger tip to finger tip is another DaVinca human proportion used in the art world.
How many of you are currently measuring your hand?
tinder takes themselves too seriously...
Are they going to certify dick size too?
Just wondering?
Many mug shots are taken with a height scale behind the perp.
Also, they should implement a htodog(no hotdog algorithm.
Being below average in height is not a character flaw!
Do they ban the FGAS too?
"honesty is the best policy"? Then why am I still sitting here, all alone, in front of a computer, at an age where literally every single person in every school class I've ever been to is now married and have kids and their own places to live and fancy cars and all kinds of careers?
Because I was honest. It does NOT pay off in this world.
Since it appears that there's a significant problem with men misrepresenting themselves in their online profiles, I don't mind men being targeted for some brutal honestly.
Of course, this also means I FULLY expect a new Tinder policy that requires every woman's profile to include a full body shot (to include whatever algorithmic hashes are necessary to disprove image manipulation), as well as a makeup-free selfie. There's ZERO reason we should allow the women to get away with misrepresentation.
I think I've also pointed out the obvious differences between the genders. Careful what you wish for ladies. We men might end up demanding you provide the same, in the name of equity.
*DABS*
Looking forward to women being required to upload unretouched photos of makeup-free faces, also Weight Verification Badges.
Particularly when narrowing a search by height might violate Americans with Disabilities Act and foreign counterparts. Does the height of a wheelchair's seat count toward the height of a wheelchair-using Tinder user? Would the system correctly recognize the height of someone like photographer Kevin Michael Connolly or aerialist Jen Bricker?
To be fare to both sexes they should introduce a feature to validade photos with no make-up and push-up bras.
If this is actually a april fool's joke, I look forward to see they do it next year with weight verification for women, including the same corny video showing them puting their weight as 95lb, then 110lb, then 140lb and getting a verification icon. No chance of rabid comments at all, no sir.
Oh, and by the way? Only 14.5% of the U.S. male population is actually 6' and beyond. So, we're expecting to see a huge decline in the 80% of males on Tinder who are claiming that they are well over 6 feet.
Oh...you wanted height. I thought you meant length. And I always get my feet and inches signs mixed up. Seriously, who chose 7" to mean feet and 7' to mean inches.
You should look up what the ADA actually does.
Verifying that both men and women aren't deranged serial killers, or mentally unbalanced, or unrehabilitated ex-cons, or members of a cult?
I think this is much more important than how tall they are.
(((They))) have you right where (((they))) want you.
Don't let (((them))) win. Don't let (((them))) end your life.
Lift, learn game, and protect your mind from (((talmudic infiltration))).
I'm cheering for you. Your new journey starts today.
And aren't attracted by "thinspiration"
Yet you *chose* to go off on this stupid strawman rant!
And you know the best indicator for fatness? If she weighs over 9000 tons!
Also, excuse me, but I like my girls a bit androgenous! Those badonkadonk ballon tit overstyled plastic women can't even kiss my ass. Totally unattractive. Styling is only another word for LYING!
But I'm German. And I can see tits just by going to the next park/lake/beach in the summer. So maybe it's a Murican thing.
Weird, only 14.5% of US males being over 6'.
I'm born in 1952 and when I was drafted (1970) the average height of my age was 6'2"...
(I'm from the Netherlands)
Still weird because in my youth I was always told about these tall US soldiers that in 1945 came to liberate us.
What happened between say 1935 and 2019?
"The likes of Facebook and WhatsApp are free to those whose privacy is of zero value."
We should all know by now that height and penis are not related. Look at mushroom dick... (oh if only we had the technology to help insecure men get larger before they became mental cases...)
It wouldn't be hard (pun intended) to round them to the inch since the bell curve is quite broad 85% would fit within the 6-7 range.
What with it being March 31st I'd say it's just an April Fool's joke that jumped the gun, but from what little I know of Tinder I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.
If they do this with men, will they also make women post a pic so their weight could be determined? Or would that be atrociously shallow and sexist of me?
Just cruising through this digital world at 33 1/3 rpm...
Am I the only one thinking this announcement comes one day early?

"Only 14.5% of the U.S. male population is actually 6' and beyond."
I'm 5' 11" and I know a lot of guys taller than me. Where are all these shorties? Are they including males under 18? Are they including species other than human?
Dam I thought they ment length. Ah who cares they will figure it out them selves from my pics.
And she's 6 feet wide.

They didn’t do weight because women would have thought they were serious and protested in front of their offices.
my karma will be here long after I'm gone
I really hope they don't require pics or proof of other ..... claimed physical attributes.
The Russians have won. They have made the world a cesspool of distrust, greed, fear and hate.

Recently I was talking with a woman I know professionally and she asked me my height. I told her 6'5". She said I must be taller than that as her husband is 6'5".
I leaned in and let her know her husband is lying. I know my height, and an honest about it.
If i have to verify my height, they have to verify breast size. It's only fair.
Feminism is a response to technology.
First wave Feminism was a response to rampant alcoholism resulting from gas compression technology that was used in distillery to generate hard alcohol that men used as an escape from hard work and rough living conditions; we got universal sufferage, prohibition, and equal rights from that.
Second wave feminism was a response to the obsolescance of muscle in manufacturing which was necessitated by the need to make war material for World War Two. We ended up bringing tons of women into the work force over the next few decades under equal pay for equal work regimes, and got for better or worse, the EEOC and Protected Worker classes.
Third wave feminism is a response to effective contraceptives and social media. Contraceptives take away the risk of having sex, and social media opens up the dating pool which combined with "sexual freedom" produces a situation where women, instead of building up men in a monogamous relationship or working to build a family, decide instead to objectify them through various means and "shop around"; the reality of the situation is they don't know what they want because if they did, whole industries would evaporate overnight. When their sexual capital is exhausted by their late 20's to early 30's they stop looking for Mr Perfect (who never existed anyway) and start looking for Mr Acceptable, who at that point, given he has much to lose and has been burned a few times in epic ways, has a sea of questions. Then they can't "Find a man".
The only way to win the dating game is to not put yourself on a social media site to be trotted around like cattle. Paid dating services are a better investment.
skinny = anorexic
athletic = normal weight
overweight = obese
curvy = morbidly obese
Just stand on your phone so we can measure your weight...
If men required to verify height, women should be forced to remove photo filters and provide full body photos
This is an impossible-to-implement feature. They're just trying to get their user base to submit photos of buildings for the sake of selling them off as a source of data for image recognition.
Have gnu, will travel.
I've come across a lot of fake profiles. The way they work (for the ones I've seen) is they say they would love to hook up with you, but only if you subscribe to some kind of cam service they are running... thing is I am pretty sure it's not really them, and if you signed up the money would just be gone (never tried to see). Basically there are a lot of ways to scam guys out of money using pictures oft women and all of those scammers are on Tinder, as they are any other dating or hookup medium.
That's different than women that have profiles on tinder that are not technically fake, it is them, but they are just trying to get instagram followers.
everyone under 6" to own up to their real length
Go well
Should require strict no makeup policy with verified measurements for women too.
Only fair.
This is a bit on the nose eh? This is something only women will find funny... because it's actually not funny unless you're one of the women who are like 'O M G so true lol plz do this k thx lol'
The thing is there are men who already are automatically left behind because of their height...why is that funny?
__ Skinny
__ Normal
__ Overweight
__ Obese
__ Mobius strip
I like being 6 feet tall.

In my experience the bots match and message you first. Usually with something short and generic like, "hey, how are you?"
Once you're aware of them, they're pretty easy to spot. There will be a few messages that don't mention anything from your profile and will quickly try to get you to visit some other paid site to view their "real" profile. On sites like OKCupid that let people create detailed profiles you'll notice the bot accounts have only answered the minimum number of questions needed to complete a profile. On sites like Tinder that only allow superficial profiles I'd expect the problem to be much greater.
There's a famous article from an employee at OKCupid about how men and women rank peoples' attractiveness. I'm linking to archive.org, since it seems there's been an attempt to scrub the article from the Internet.
Your Looks and Your Inbox
To summarize, mens' attractiveness ratings were found to be distributed according to a normal curve, while womens' ratings skewed to the right; women found 80% of men to be less attractive than average. There is also some data presented showing attractiveness versus messaging rates which help to explain why average looking guys don't hear from many women.
The ADA contemplates public accommodations. If an application's publisher fails to make the application accessible to a little person or a congenital amputee, said publisher could be held liable.
I'll agree to height verification soon as there's weight verification for women. They'll say it's unfair, and it is. Simple solution is to do height and weight verification for everyone or no one.
Fuck you and your smoker shaming bullshit. Fucking hypocrites, the lot of ya! You just went on why height shaming anf fat shaming are bad and should be done by no one and then proceed to make an exemption for the thing YOU don't like. Die alone, choking on a your cock shaped pillow, you judgmental prick.
