Is the one that uses the telephone book(yellow pages) to authenticate that you are actually standing in front of the machine. You see, this system would randomly pick a name out of the phone book (most common was John Smith) and you had to enter the correct telephone number to gain access to the system.
Fortunately the yellow pages would be next to the keyboard for easy reference. I just don't know why people couldn't put in the correct phone number. The failed access log would be full in a matter of minutes. We also lost a lot of telephone books too.

I don't want my video signal to be broadcasted... at most if EVER upto 3ft, is all I want my Video signal to ever reach.
As it is, I've been able to tap into(errr capture) the wireless signal used by a company I work with, that monitors the employee breakroom, front door, lobby, and conference room. By far, at least these locations are considered public access (except the break room), but its my opinion that a computer screen should never be wireless.
Its the paranoid in me that says, someone may capture my video signal and see everything I do.
Am I wrong to think this. At least add one or two levels of intrustion/capture prevention, and we are set. Even if its false sense of security, at least make it to the point someone HAS to be doing something illegal. We've been over this subject with wireless access points.
Thanks for clearing things up for me... I really (originally) didn't understand what all the fuss was about until now.
I've never used Spamhaus to help filter spam from my mail servers, so personally... 'bring it on spammers!'. With that said. Spamhaus needs to gather some balls, and start facing the facts. If they pissed on the judicial system, and hoped that it would work their way, and it didn't, then boo hoo for them.
Again, originally I was rooting for spamhaus to take e360 to the cleaners, but now that I see spamhaus is basically a bunch of underage wine babies, then they deserve to be kicked in the ass.
You are all wrong... The key to successful AI is the INTERNET!
Yes, when I ask my android where would I find the answer to 42... its response should be "The Internet! oh and porn! would you like to see another Hot Lezbo Teen flick?"

I have the correct solution... Jackie Chan has been wanting to make a firefighter movie for years... And now he has his chance. The plot would be, exactly this. Neds getting firefighters to a neighborhood only to throw stones at the poor firemen. Only this time... Its Jackie! and he's pissed! Chairs, doors, tables, TVs, refrigerators all on fire... but Jackie uses them all as prop weapons! I'm so submitting this one!
As the general consensus is saying, two monitors seem to be better than one.
Some have stated 3 or more is better. I agree, because my own setup is a 3 monitor setup with a laptop that uses Synergy to allow for my mouse/keyboard from the desktop to scale over to it.
I have a 19", 21", 19" setup. All are same brand(Samsung), and same goes from my laptop (Dell with Samsung 15" LCD). While work related attributes are productive in my point of view, gaming and watching movies, would be better suited on a single large 20+" screen. Since my third LCD is on a different video card, I have my HDTV turner card set to this monitor, so I can play games and watch TV at the same time. Sure my chair has been ass printed for my ass only, and I've gained an extra 20 or so pounds over the past year or so. But that doesn't account for productivity!
I'm not objecting to your comment, but I would say, times are changing.
As with the basis of this slashdot poll, I think the problem with most is this statistic, that this bases everything on a broad range of games. While the slashdot community assumes they are talking about actual gamers. ie: men vs women, with high-end gaming rigs playing MMOs, FPS, or RTS. Not box puzzle, like games. The problem here is we consider 'gamer' to be on the level of owning a gaming rig, and competing in MMOs, FPS, etc...
As your comment goes, times are changing. The last office I worked at, we had 4 female programmers, and 2 male programmers. Still the ratio was more men, because of everyone in the office, we also had 5 more male IT staff members(non-programmers). 7/4 males are still dominating. But this company was a upstart software company. Who knows how many more upstarts, or existing companies have more female IT employees than male. With the short time with this upstart company, I encountered two female IT business owners.
Times ARE changing... what are we MEN supposed to do when we are dominated by our puzzle playing overlords?

While I am not a fan of Fantasy MMOs, it is mainly because of the monthly dues. Plus my personality really isn't into Fantasy, its with Sci-Fi space sims.
Lately I have been playing Darkstar One, which to me is a re-incarnation of WC: Privateer, but with a better looking ship, and weapons. I have been into this game the moment I found the demo, and have been playing non-stop even though at this point all I am doing in the game is playing the randomly generated 'quickie cash' missions. (I'm improving my Saitek X45 flyin g skills)
I've gotten into EVE, and I really love the vast universe it brings to me. I could get lost into such a vast sci-fi mmo, but one things holds me back from getting into the 'monthly pay for' phase of game play. Its the interaction with my piloting of my space(craft)ship.
Sci-Fi MMOs have to abide by higher gameplay standards than that of Fantasy MMOs. Fantasy has to create scenic worlds, on a planet. While Sci-Fi, needs to create planets, within galaxies, to which even our own knowledge of the universe is incomplete so everything must be created theroy. While I will settle for EVE mixed with Freelance, and Privateer qualities, physics and game play are very hard to incorporate into a MMO. How about the alien races. I'm pretty sure, that a Sci-Fi MMO could just involve humans the way EVE has done. The storyline is impresive, create 6 human races with entirely different cultures. Attempt to create a universe with peace. Give the player a ship, and tell him to survive in space. DONE.
Just make the space physics, economy, social interaction (go ahead and create space stations with NPCs, hell make planets with NPCs too... Go as far as allowing people to goto 10 or more places on one planet) But as long as I can combat like a pilot against uneven odds of space pirates/bounty hunters/alien races, then fly home on the last leg of my spaceship to the nearest solar system to fix my ship, and fix my next job, then... and ONLY THEN will I be happy.
Here is what I would want in a Sci-Fi MMO;
1. Vast Universe... (EVE's universe is huge... I know it would take me years to goto each solar system, only to go back to one, and its been changed entirely. Thats how reality works too)
2. Human/Alien Races... (I have no problem dealing with some foreign alien, Rule #1 if it shoots at me, I shoot back. nuff said)
3. Economy... (EVE, excells, heck I could possibly find enough friends to help me manage a vast company in EVE, but hell, I need better friends to help me manage my OWN finances. Make the economy complex, but also allow for some form of automation, that will pay the ingame bills, every time you goto a planet/space station)
4. Gameplay Interaction... (This one is what EVE lacks. Put in some flight controls, and first person POV so I can duke it out with space pirates. If my ship exploids then... shits, I'm a bad pilot. Restart at the nearist planet/spacestation, and lose the mission.)
5. Gameplay cont... (As with Dying, respawning is not a bad idea for Sci-Fi.. heck we don't explain WHY when I die in Guild Wars, I end up alive at the nearest gateway, why not in a sci-fi sim as well) With Darkstar One, when I die at the lasers of a pirate, I just reload my most recently autosaved game, and retry.
6. graphics... (Things can't get worse from todays standards of MMO graphics, so at this point it can only get more detailed, or stay the same. EVE has done well with the online MMO for Sci-fi graphics)
7. Customizability of... (Characters, Ok, so Fantasy allows you to customize how your character looks, Sci-Fi can do the same thing with characters. You start off as a person/alien anyways, so let us customize five or more races of human or alien.)
8. Customizability of... (Spaceships, well for sci-fi why not customize your spaceship. Give users 10 or more types of spaceships they can start from, and then allow us to customize the wings, engines, shields, paint jobs, computers, etc. I know we'll upgrad

Lets take a look at population... China has a much larger population than the US. China also has a higher unemployment/poverty level than the USA does.
I see the assembly line being filed with workers being paid low wages is better than 1/16th that because a assembly machine could replace all those jobs. Then that would increase the poverty/unemployment levels all over China. We have to realize in the US, we take automated systems for granted, we expect our 'stuff' to be made faster, cheaper, and more reliable. We pay more for equipment to perform those repetitive tasks so that we don't have to have people doing those tasks, and end up creating duds. However, thanks to automation, we lose jobs.
Again, China may have a 'militant' working conditions, low pay, and poor living conditions. But if China was to go completely automated, then what will their population do? The USA can get away with this because we have employment programs, and social networking for skilled people. People in the US have no problem in getting work (we tend to be lazy about it though) But China doesn't. People who live in poverty will always live in poverty, unless someone within the family breaks themselves in order to raise themselves up a notch in the social level.
