The problem is, he said "whose lifetime is in the..."
He did not say it was 20 to 30 billion years OLD, just that the star had a total lifespan of 20 to 30 billion years, meaning that whatever its age, it has a long ass time before it "dies" (well, becomes a black dwarf).
About a week ago, ironically. She had a pathetic password, so I wasn't too surprised. The upside to the story was that we contained it rapidly, and now she actually USES keepass for all her passwords. Woot!
Thanks mister Romanian hacker dude.
I had a similar experience in the Navy too. For my certification in job I did from 2002-2004, my equipment was all randomized, every single setting and option was made to be something just ridiculous from normal, things were unplugged, shut off, and scrambled. I had to get everything back to 100% perfect functionality in less than 2 hours. Failure to achieve 100% was failure, kthxbye.
I built my latest rig approximately a year ago, and I have zero intention of upgrading in the next 12 months, and would even go as far to say that there's a 5% chance I will upgrade prior to 24 months from now. We're not really seeing tremendous leaps with hardware these days, nothing that would invalidate a $1000 custom rig for a long, long time.

Hello my name is Jeremy. How may I help you today?

Hi there, I was reading an article about how amazon refunded the microsoft OS price for a netbook that was purchased. http://www.theopensourcerer.com/2009/07/21/getting-your-microsoft-tax-refunded-1010-for-amazon-uk/
4:59:35 PM CustomerChristian
I was wondering whether Newegg would do that on a laptop I ordered, because I don't accept the EULA.
5:00:34 PM AgentJeremy
We do not offer this return.
5:01:02 PM CustomerChristian
Didn't think so.:) Perhaps one day when EULA's are challenged in court we can get this fixed. Until then, viva la microsoft tax eh?;)
5:01:49 PM AgentJeremy
Do you have any other questions, or is there anything else I can assist you with today?
5:01:53 PM CustomerChristian
Nope, thanks.

I suppose this is the loophole that allows government actors to hire joe blow off the street to go break into someone's house and find evidence when otherwise, said actors would be powerless to take action against the target.
We had a couple guys from their management team on our SecuraBit podcast. http://www.securabit.com/. Very bright folks, and if they weren't up in MA I might throw my resume their way.
I think the problem is that GPS is a commercially funded operation. If the military wanted its own "secret" GPS system, it would have to launch a boatload of satellites up there to match the current configuration.
I've also been told they do it out of fear of the phone being turned into a remote microphone, something to where the evil party changes out the battery on your phone when you're not looking and that modified battery allows for the phone to be controlled remotely? It's a bit of a stretch for my mind.
I've only ever had one major headache with sprint. Without a long story since I am ready to go to bed, let's just say they screwed my account up so badly I had to call at least 2-4 times a day for 3 weeks to fix it.
At the end of the fiasco, I ended up talking to the retention dept and getting basically unlimited everything for about $55/mo. I've had that for almost 2 years now, until I went and got a new phone the other day. I did call retention when I got home and they managed to hook me back up with almost the exact same retention plan for the new phone, I think I am actually paying $2 less per month than before now.
There are numerous methods you can use to draw information out, about almost anyone. Some things which really help are:
Name/Nicknames General area of birth and/or area where spent a great deal of their life Profession(s) Education Sex Who they know or who knows them
Generally with at least 3 of those you can get a pretty good start on finding things out. I have a friend who was always quite adamant about leaving a very small footprint on the internet 3 or 4 years back, she always maintained she was very careful about where she put information about her, and how much she divulged.
Just to prove her wrong, I spent about a week and a half or so looking things up. Since I knew the city she was currently living in at the time, and knew her first name and age, it was just a matter of time. She was also in the legal profession, and after finding a few names of people with her first name who had passed the bar when she would've taken it (well 1 year +/-) I started plugging those into the white pages. Shortly after I had her last name, address, phone number, etc.
It's really not that hard, in fact if you're willing to spend a little money, it's far far easier.
For example, Snorpus:
BSEE, so you have a background in electrical engineering, hm, so do I. You do not live in the inner city, and have mentioned "us rural folk" in a previous posting. Bought a 1k mac back in 1992, so you're obviously somewhere in the age range of at least 35 or 36+, and i'd wager mid-40s myself. You live or have lived in Export, PA Your first name is Dave
I won't go any further because I already have enough information to find every last personal detail about you.
This works with most people, sometimes even if they have never laid fingers on a computer.
The problem is that most everyone leaves some sort of footprint on the internet, regardless of their social stature.
Pictures are actually one of the less common things you will find for a given person unless they have a fairly decent celebrity status. FOSS doesn't exactly have a huge celebrity status associated with it other than a few big names.
With 5 or 10 minutes of digging a decent portion of the userbase here could figure out my address and phone number, it's not very hard. For someone to be as invisible as she is, requires some serious, serious effort.
In response to the AC, google images wouldn't necessarily mean anything. You can put my first and last name into there and you won't find a picture of me. My father yeah, but not me and I have made zero efforts since I originally started using the internet to hide anything about me. I have no illusions about my privacy online anymore since I did not start out protecting it. Once the cat is out of the bag, there really isn't any putting it back in.
Granted, if PJ exists, she's a good deal older than I am, and therefore already had a lot of life experience with regards to protecting her privacy, so she may have started out on the right foot online, always being careful of what got thrown up onto the cloud of the internet.
"PJ", very interesting..

While I have always personally thought Pamela to exist in the flesh, the timing here is rather interesting. Whoever he or she is, they have made great efforts to create as small of a footprint as possible on the internet. I usually pride myself in being able to find information on things that are quite hard to find information about, and i'll tell you what, it wouldn't surprise me if there is no "Pamela Jones".
I think you assumed too much. Not everyone is what they appear. I could be doing 20 years, or getting out tomorrow, and you don't know that, but you do enjoy making blanket statments don't you? There aren't many employers you can work for these days that don't put you at odds with some sort of philosophy.
I saw this as I was coming into work this afternoon on our big screen (thank god for the military having most of their televisions permanently tuned to FOX NEWS for the "situational awareness" it provides...) and my jaw just dropped. It's really hitting me lately how much our country is changing, and there is very little that individuals can do about it. I feel like standing on top of a soap box and yelling at people till i'm blue in the face, but I know that's fruitless.

Depacote caused massive weight gain in someone I know who was prescribed it. They're on something else now.. not sure what.

Oh sorry I should've clarified. I meant that the fear was for phones that were off.
