You are totally naive if you think a patent is going to do anything for "the little guy".
You think if you invented something that you have enough money to fight off any challengers? Shit, 3M and their lawyers would either eat you alive or litigate till you're broke. Also, what most people don't seem to understand is that you only have to change 10% of an existing patent to be able to file your own. Patents are there to show everyone else what you've already learned.. for "protection against competition", that's the trade off. So ya great idea, lets patent something and show everyone how we do it, so some asshole company can steal our idea, change one thing, then kill us in the marketplace.
Patents are patently bullshit and only serve their corporate masters. I've been through this shit first hand.
I don't know anything much Mac, but I've seen lots of Linux distros with a remote desktop client. Could you have an xp machine on a lan and remote into it from the Mac? I do this on my lan and it's fast, even faster and easier than the kvm switch. Plus I can also set it up to do encoding when I don't need it for other things.
Thanks. Would love to see one of these programs work. I need to measure tower heights from a photo and have parked my car beside them before to judge scale. Would be nice to find something easier.
I have 3 different domain accounts.. none from Netscape. I like the ability to manage them all from the same place, yet have separate inboxes. I like the spam filtering and the ability to save the whole mess and move it to another system as well.
Exactly! We had an article here a while back about this issue. I sent an email off to my MP about my concerns. I was actually quite shocked when they sent me back a letter informing me that my concerns will be brought up with the Minister in charge.
My MP also informed me that he would like more information when the Minister Responsible For This Mess replies to our initial inquiry.
I love Netscape 7.2
I wish AOL would smarten up. Support for 7.2 would be great. It is IMHO the best I've ever seen from Netscape and I jumped on board with version 3 I think. This one is the only one I've used that doesn't crash all the time!
I had no luck with the "Mozilla" offering and it seems that I couldn't keep Firefox running. 4.7 is left behind in way too many websites now a days and I despise IE.
Netscape 8 was a horrid pile of junk in the spirit of Netscape 6.
I may be a dying breed, but I do like the fact that email and browser are tied together.
I just used the Windows stock Nvidia drivers for a 32 bit install on an AMD 2400+ with an FX5200.
Works fine, (even the aero) though vista didn't have drivers for my sound or nic. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Looks real purdy.. but I'm hooped when it comes to navigating the menus. This looks like the largest learning curve yet with a Microsoft product. I work for an ISP so we'll have to get some Vista machines for tech support.. but I don't like that learning curve already. Looks like XP and win2k for the duration for me.
In Canada you have to either be given notice, (I think two weeks if you've worked there more than a year) or paid two weeks severeance if you're laid-off or fired without reason.
If you're a dink, they can fire you on the spot with no severence if they have proof.
I had this problem years ago. I was playing with something called verbex.. talk to your computer... it does stuff. You had to train it. It worked fairly well and freaked out visitors. I had it set up so that if I swore at a program (it was windows 95 after all) the computer would do an alt+F4. Funny stuff... until one day I'm on the phone and getting a bit... ummm.. upset. Apparently I was cursing a lot cause when I turned around.. my computer was off.
I say good riddance! I used to be a "webmaster" HA, more like friggin ambulance chaser...
Chase the potential client for the initial sale.
Chase them to get the damn content IN DIGITAL FORM to me.
Chase them to approve the site, layout and content.
And finally... chase them for the damn cheque!
It was fun for a few years, but could also be incredibly aggravating. Like the time this Mac user wanted me to move an image "a little to the left" 1 pixel? 5 pixels? So I moved it about 4 times before he was happy.
The one I hate more than shill bidding is when the seller isn't getting what he wanted and ends the auction. I used to buy motherboards from this guy actually close to my house. I knew him personally after a couple deals and would pick stuff up at his house.
I don't know how he pulled it off, but he ended an auction with 30 seconds left. I was fairly pissed off and told him so. Never bought another thing from him.
I would much rather that he put in a reserve or set the starting price at the lowest price he would accept.. instead of being so deceitful.
I agree with above posters.. ebay sucks now. Only bid what you are willing to lose because it really has become a crap shoot.
You can order one and wait 3 weeks for delivery. I'm sure you customer would love waiting that long to get their computer back.
OEM's have been leaning to putting the install files on a second partition. Some actually ask you to make restore disks. I personally can't believe that they can't afford the 50 cents for the damn cd.
You also USED to be able to just use any xp cd and the key on the box and it would work. It would freak out after the first boot, but if you changed the key to what it actually was, then you could activate over the web. You can't do this anymore. Now if you do this routine, you have to call Microsoft and they usually will give you about a 60 digit code to make the machine work again.

This is on a Saturday with 100 users on the AP. This is from my machine, through a router to the Access Point. This is about double what I usually see.
Canada has been "metric" for like 20 years now. I was a welder for a while and of the 20 or so jobs I had, 1 (one) used metric measurements. They still had the imperial measurments on the drawings. This is so stupid. Lumber comes in 2 x 4's, sheets of wood and steel come in 4' x 8' sheets. Roads out west are 1 and 2 miles part. It's not like we're going to change all the wood and steel mills. It is pretty retarded... instead of saying do you want 1 x 1 x.100 tubing gets turned into 25.4 x 25.4 x 2.54mm.
Where it's easy, we use it, where it's a pain in the ass.. we still use the imperial system.
Ok then geniuses (sp?) How do I explain that when these programs are removed their internet works again? You think I didn't try anything else before suggesting this?
Getting pretty tired of the Slashdot "know-it-alls". I come here to learn, but pricks like you two sure spoil it.
You don't lose points off your license because they can't "prove" you were driving your vehicle.
So explain to me how NOT losing points is a deterrant?

Like GP said.. abolish the Patent office!
GET STUFFED! I moved to the boonies and put up with dialup for 2 weeks, then satelite for 6 months till I finally got on the supernet.
You can pry my bandwidth from my cold dead hands!
I wore out 3 sets of their first 3 albums and saw them live twice. I still listen to their old stuff once in a while.
Ya, that guy on YouTube that can't play but made an interesting video was neat, but I'd never buy an album of his.
This is like Christmas for the Computer shops.
1. Sell clueless user unnecessary upgrade.
2. Let them play with it for a couple days and break it.
3. ??????
4. They bring it back to get "fixed"
5. Profit!!!
Newfie goes to the doctor, "Doc, I think I got Sars"
Doc: "G'way bye, you been to China?"
Newfie: "Nope"
Doc: "Been to Trawnna"
Newfie: "nope"
Doc: Well why do you tink you got sars?"
Newfie: "Well, I went out drinkin last night, got real drunk and fell down the stairs.. now me backs sar, me legs sar and me arms sar!"

There are about 10 companies doing this so there is competition. We just happen to have the best prices and the best service.
Thanks. Would love to see one of these programs work. I need to measure tower heights from a photo and have parked my car beside them before to judge scale. Would be nice to find something easier.
Do you have a link or a more complete name other than "tracker"? Tracker returns 433 items at sourceforge.
I have lots of open source and unsupported stuff that I still use.

Democracy might not be dead yet in Canada...

Motorola Canopys have 14 Mbps point to point, with 25 km range. There is stuff out there that can do over 300Mbps and 60 mile range.
