I think this year should be pretty interesting. It looks like a lot of business are hesitant about rolling this thing out and the computer industry on a whole is in decline. (except for laptops). IMHO, most people that want a computer have one and unless there's a pressing need, I can't see lots of people jumping on the Vista bandwagon.

What is the true motivation of the Christian Artist? Are they making music to make money or to Glorify God?

I do venture into a.b.sounds.mp3.christian where this discussion is played out almost weekly. Some of us (in Canada) pay a tax on media which as far as a lot of us are concerned, legalizes downloading.

Another group downloads to try out new music since it doesn't really get played on mainstream radio. Some of us (God forbid) even go out and buy music after we listen to it. I've deleted quite a bit of sampled music so far, and I've bought a lot of cd's. I also go to concerts and spend $200 on tickets, t-shirts and cd's to support artists.

There is also a group of people in there that trade out of print music. I've had the chance to replace old tapes that died many times.

When I can download mp3s, without drm, and get a chance to listen to them before hand, I'll probably leave the newsgroup. Till then, I have no problem downloading music.

The whole point of Christian Music is to spread the Gospel. From another angle you could argue that they're no better than the money changers in the temple if their motivation is strictly money and profit.

    6. Printers.. good luck.
    7. Windows Apps.. good luck.
    8. Real World. Windows on the desktop, linux in the server rooms.

Honestly, I hate Microsoft the company with a passion. I'm currently using the best thing they ever made and that's windows 2000. I've tried, Lord knows I've tried to use Linux. I have 10 computers at home and probably 50 Linux distros on cd that have made it onto a machine at one time or another. I have yet to see one distro do everything I want. I either get printing problems, or it doesn't want to play with my windows network, or it's slow or it crashes. You'll hear tons of fanboys in here probably mod me down for such remarks but the cold stark reality is that Linux right now is only good for home users who want to surf and check email or as a server platform. None of those dumb Windows screensavers, games, apps etc. that users like to download will work. Very few games will work and not many home users are proficient enough to play with emulators.

Linux is remarkable in the server areas though. They just blow windows away. I'll never use anything else for a webserver again. SME server is an excellent replacement for a windows domain controller.

Bottom Line: Most businesses use accounting software that is not compatible with Linux. That reason alone is enough to seriously curtail any large scale Linux adoption. Therefore, since it's gonna be a while before Linux really makes it into the real world, and your students WILL be using Windows when they leave school, and it's a fair learning curve to administer Linux machines... forget Linux on the desktop for a while. When software companies start writing their accounting software for Linux, then it's worth it to start.

Hmmm, maybe because of their monopolistic practices which almost killed off all other competitiors? Since they had no real competition unitl firefox ( and arguably still doesn't) they should be held accountable for the shitty software they release. Since they can "force" people through their automatic updates to install IE7, (they should also therefore be able to fix their browser)so I would think that they should be held accountable for the pain and suffering the internet has had to put up with for the last 5 or so years. Botnet anyone?

I can't count the amount of machines I've fixed that just had Internet Exploder on it. I would put on another browser and they'd never have another problem. Internet Explorer and outlook express are the two biggest problems on the web.

Went to IBM site, found the manuals, found the part number, thought "What the hell?" and called their parts dept. Not only did they have the thing in stock (this computer was made before 1999) they would gladly ship it to me asap. The part cost $5 and they were laughing as they told me shipping was about $14.

I simply love their laptops. I've had about 8 or 9 (kept selling my personal machine and would have to replace it with something faster)of them and have been very happy with all of them. Easy to work on and lots of documentation on their website.
