After all, that is just a damned creepy thing for an employer to do to its employees, even if it is feasible and legal.

I hire people to exercise fiduciary responsibility over large sums of money. I want to make very certain they don't have substance abuse, gambling, or other problems that could lead to temptations. Since I already do DOJ background and credit checks, there's nothing creepy about a Google/social media check. I also check the references you list and call the previous employers from whom you do not list a reference. Anything less is just sloppy hiring practice.

If there is a legitimate gripe it rests in the types of crimes that poor people commit falling to electronic detection while the crimes that the rich commit will usually not be detectable on film or in public areas. The rich man can still cheat on his taxes or alter his books for his business. What we may create is wealth being like a permit to commit crimes.

So, this must be that "class warfare" that the Republicans are all hotted up about.

The politicians are right to be worried, though. As I recall my history, a lot of London riots include a part where the Lord Mayor is dragged of of some hidey hole and hanged on a street corner. Heads on pikes are also traditional features. I'm pretty sure that the Gin Riots of 1743 took place without the aid of Black Berries.
