what i want to know is if Longhorn will offer a better looking default UI than XP... I *HATED* the green and blue look it has by default. And the available themes were almost as bad. sure it could be customized with stylesXP or whatever, but that's a pain. and since i deal with support of other people's systems alot, they usually stick with that horrid default setup. bah!
i really love the default setup for Mac OS X, and while I understand XP can be made to look like just about anything, i truly hope they get some better design people in there by the time Longhorn is actually released.
sure it's petty... but to those who have to look at it all day, it's important.
with both major football licenses locked up, EA could really turn out an amazing "EA Football" product... one disk that included both NCAA and NFL teams, where you could seemlessly integrate your experience. EA could charge more for this product, and would probably sell boatloads of them... most people I know buy on Madden OR NCAA each year, not both. If they included a High School mode ala Super Play Action Football, it really could be the ultimate videogame football experience.
but... i realize this is a pipe dream. EA will milk us for all we're worth, hoping we'll buy both games.
ok i'm pretty new to debian/ubuntu, usually playing around in gentoo, but i've already mucked up my new Ubuntu install i think. just trying to get basic functionality and stumbling through the wiki's, i've managed to get some strange versions of libraries, so I can't install mplayer..
kind of a bummer.:-\ i'm sure it's fixable, but it's still a bummer. i guess its screwed up because i had to add a certain repository to add one package, but that repository uses different versions of whatever libs than the repository mplayer is on.
i had hoped/expected that apt could solve these issues... i suppose this hassle is something i'll just have to deal with if i want support for proprietary formats.:-\
but you NEED skills! You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills... Microsoft millionares are only people who have great skills.
oh come on, it's april fools. if you want some real news, go to CNN's Sci/Tech page for today. we'll all welcome you back here tomorrow with duplicate stories on how much we all hate SCO.
i disagree.. while it's not exactly traditional around here, I think it's a good idea to have the editors actually produce some original content from time to time. except JonKatz.
we always watched these science videos with some crazy guy who will go down forever in my memory for the way he would punctuate each experiment with something like...
watch it... watch it..... THERE it is!!
does anybody know who this might have been? I think he was some crazy old guy with white hair, if that helps...:)
i agree. most people have always agreed that mac os x is superior, but price has always been the sticky issue. with price becoming more realistic, perhaps apple can start winning back its market share.
i think this is just the beginning. if apple stays in this market, we'll see more powerful iterations of the mac mini in a similar price point with more powerful features down the road.
check the dates. Your article is from 09/01/2004, while today is 7 January 2005. I believe your article is referring to CES 2004, not this year's Expo.
Red laser pointers have grown cheap and ubiquitous, but unfortunately, they are not very effective as sky pointers. In contrast, green laser pointers are very effective because of the eye's greater sensitivity to the 532 nanometer green light. Under dark sky conditions, the beam from a 5 milliwatt green laser pointer creates a dramatic impression, and the beam apparently extends for more than a kilometer. Any bright light source, ranging from light pollution induced sky glow to a crescent moon, will reduce the apparent brightness of the SkyPointer(TM) although the beam will usually remain visible. The light pollution acts in such a way that people closer to you will still see the beam, whereas those further away may have difficulty.
I'd be very happy if Google implemented a gpg layer to their gmail accounts. This could be fairly transparently to the user, unless the encryption and decryption was done locally. But even if it wasn't, it would still add another layer of protection.
Perhaps a pay version of gmail in the future will include SSL and use something like gpg in their messages.

i will try this once i have some access to the machine... thanks :)

having to remove and reinstall is not a "Simple answer." you should be able to hide it as an option.
YES!!! you've answered a question a couple buddies and i have had for a few years now :) thanks!!
watch it... watch it..... THERE it is!!

don't you mean GNU/Ubuntu? ;-)
what is has is support for the iTMS, which none of those "cheapo flash players" can say.

kudos apple!

I believe this is the press release you're referring to.

The McDonald's Arch Deluxe: a product before its time.
Try here to make your own.
uh... I'm using Firefox 1.0 and it's blinking...
