Gawd I wish I'd have purchased a second one...I used an older version of the regular Logitech trackball; my thumb hurt after five minutes of use, (granted I use a rediculously high screen rez) even when sensitivity was set to it's highest.
The new Marble FX looks kinda cool, and I just saw it's now a cordless version, which would be nice for reclining (just set it on your thigh and mouse til the cows come home!) but I dunno if it can live up to my current trackball...guess I'll have to see when this one dies.
Noticed this last night after installing IE6: (on Windows) I opened an attached Word document opened through a webmail system and the document opened in an MS Word-style editor/view inside IE6. Just a sidenote...
Another important thing some do not realise is you can save an HTML file edited in Word as "Plain HTML." Don't know if that's available on a mac or not though.
I understand that immobilization the wrist will combat wrist pain
...but at what cost? Immobilizing the wrist and forcing you to use your entire arm translates to much more stress on your arm and back. Personally, I'd rather not screw up my wrist, then switch to this and screw up my back as well.
I installed one of these for a secretary last week, actually; I agree with the above author completely. This was IMO awkward to use, and seemed to place a lot of strain in my shoulder and back immediately to remove the weight of my arm when trying to move the mouse precisely. This mouse also removes the use of an arm rest, because you can not maneuver it with your fingers alone, but must move your whole arm.
The other thing that surprised me was the complete lack of weight to this. You look at it, and can see how it might be comfortable, but the base has no weight to it; the entire "mouse" is lighter than a normal M$ ps2 mouse. This, combined with the weight of your arm adding downard force to the mouse while in use, makes the mouse tend to tip or get caught easily.
I think I'll stick to my trusty Logitech Trackman Marble FX.
I don't deny we've done good, I don't deny many countries count us as allies. That does not, however, imply that a country's citizens love/like/are indifferent to Americans. Take a trip to any larger European/Middle-Eastern/Asian city to see what I mean.
Yes, we've done good, improved the world, all that. We've also destroyed some country's local culture (or are in the process), stepped on toes, all that. That doesn't mean we are loved or hated simply for this. That is what I was talking about. You talk to half the people in the US, backwater towns, whatever, and everyone assumes we walk on water. Most every person on/. knows this not to be true, though.
I agree totally; I did not make my previous comment to imply or insinuate in any way that ANYONE deserves this, and I apologize if you took it that way. This is a heinous act and do not look forward to seeing what we do in retaliation to whoever did this. Eye for an eye will not work. But that's what will happen.
If you didn't already know this, you need to pull your American head out of your American ass and realize that our (American's) shit does not smell like roses and the majority of the world does not like America or what we have done for/to the world.
My course was actually "Differential Equations with Linear Algebra," which most just refer to as diff-eq, but you're right, it would be specifically linear algebra the poster was referring to.
uh, I think T1 speeds are a bit faster than 256 Kbit, which is usually the standard guaranteed transfer speed of DSL. In my area, 256Kb is ~$40, 768Kb is ~$80.
If a T1 gets all of 768Kb/s transfer speeds, then yes, DSL is great. The comment above has a valid complaint about paying $60 a month though, especially if he's paying $40-45 for the same thing today. Inflation is one thing, but a 20% increase (which is what we're speculating) over 2 years is a huge jump when you consider there will not (presumably) be any difference in service speed/reliability over what we get now.

Actually, decent office chairs (ie. secretary's chairs) with good adjustability/movement (adjustable arms in 3-axes, back-rest in 2-axes, seat in 2-axes, etc.) can be had for about $3-400. You pay 700 for a chair, and you're paying ~$300 to have the chair look nifty. Granted, if ya got the cash, it's not a big deal.
I'll stick with my POS $90 OfficeMAX special and pay two months rent instead of buying one of these chairs.
I don't know the cost (I just set it up), but it had VGA, a very nice ~15" LCD, a CD-ROM, (Could've got a CD-RW, but the VP of Facilities Mgmt has no need for that.) It had 2 USB ports, built-in modem / 10/100 NIC, 2 PCMCIA slots, a 9GB HDD, 256MB RAM and one or two other things.
I know it's hard to beat a Mac notebook, but our org. doesn't use Macs. Personally, if I had the bones and a need for a laptop (other than just geek-factor) I'd be all over one.
FYI, I just setup a new Gateway laptop for the Veep of my division, and discovered (and showed to the boss) that you can set the laptop up to use Just VGA, Just CRT, Both VGA and CRT with the same desktop, or VGA and CRT in a dual-head setup. He still prefers the single screen, of course, but for the power-user at home, that could be a decent productivity boost.
You're right to an extent; a sysadmin candidate though, is more likely to be hired by people "in the know" rather than HR (I assume). Regardless of who's hiring though, someone in a crucial position like a sysadmin will not know everything that an interviewer could possible encounter, or everything they could encounter on the job. But someone who has to search to find an answer does not need training. Quite the contrary, they can find it on their own without spending company dollars.
Someone who doesn't know rudimentary information requires training though. This is usually about the same as being flat out unqualified.
Serves ya right for using hotmail for critical communications!
(Yes, I know the address next to my name is @hotmail.com, but I've never once received a message that wasn't SPAM or a one-time registration info message.) ---
Some of these I was aware of...but these are the trademarked/copyrighted sounds that I was referring to. Another poster's deep, bowel-movement-inducing sound is more what I was referring to, but I'm guessing that wouldn't be very much fun to have as your own cell phone ring...unless you haven't eaten for over 24 hours, then have your friends call away! (Hilarity ensues) ---
Out of curiosity, is this just that stupid? Or have there been other sounds marketed in the past? Inquiring minds want to know...
Only sounds I could think of that might be marketed like this are regular fire alarms or copyrighted/trademarked theme songs, which wouldn't be marketed if the sound is meant to illicit brand recognition. ---
"hearers of the new noise are virtually unable to resist turning to face the direction from which it is coming"
Gawd, can't wait until I can't resist turning to the prick sitting two seats down in a final exam who can't turn the ringer off.
On the plus side, I now know how to get my/. postings read by everyone: include "chusssh chusssh chusssh" in each message, then all/.ers will be irresistably drawn to my post! ---

Not sure if it is navigational error or deliberate attacks.
