    Err, most average users that I know do not even notice whether there are anything in the systray. They tend to be hesitated meddling with icons sitting there, out of fear that system requires them or something.

    It is a bunch of ~10% computer geeks who usually right click almost every icon there and select Exit, Close, or any other menu that keeps systray exclusively for date and clock only. Which is as bad as any when advertising is in concern.

    In addition to the mines communicating with each other, the field commanders can communicate with the landmines to detonate them remotely once they are no longer needed.
    Yes, and later found out that this type of mines are susceptible to hacking attempts, so they include an RF 'firewall like' inside each. Hacker try harder, mines get patched, the cycle goes on. In the end, army resolves to old plain mines.

    It says that it'll index text based information only, so I don't think mp3, wma, mpeg, or whatever other binary formats are stored on their servers. But you have a point on copyright stuff, though.

    of my foul attempt to rob a particular house with some friends. So I broke in only to found out that one of the "so called" friends had gone in in advance and left nothing for us but the furniture.
    I have never had an idea to arrange a legal action against him, not until now.

    Apparently, most /.-ers don't value this feat highly. Well it makes sense, these geeks don't love computer for no reason :-)

    We crack the software, we pay the consequences, agree. But just how well these consequences are defined?
    I can't read the original news, so I don't know whether the author clearly stated that if we crack her/his software,
    it will automatically remove user's home directory.

    Perhaps a simple case when an account is a common account. If one of these users cracked that said software,
    should other users pay the consequences too?
    Common account is not a safe practice indeed, but hey, it is not uncommon.
    I far more agree with a method to stop software to function when it's cracked.

    As for the console provides extra protection, hell, I see more pirated console games than PC games in my country.
    Especially when the number of console sold is much more than PC.

    Disclaimer: I am not a piracy supporter. I am using Linux, not automatically free from piracy though, but less probable.

    Although my first post might implied your statement above, but no, I don't believe I will evade Hell merely by doing good. If you are a Christian, you will understand that. If you are not, the point will be a long argument, so I will not discuss it here.
    But truly, what will be a reason for an atheist of doing good? Not that I void the possibility, I know some atheists who are more decent in attitude than religious people.

    Seriously, if your only concept of right and wrong is based on the threat of punishment, whether by the State or by some deity, then you have real problems.

    You are right, that is a bad concept. But I have to admit, I used to think that way, when God was not in my list of considerations.

    I am indeed thanking scientists for many things in my life. But as sure as sun is going to shine again tomorrow, I will never depend on scientists for anything. Ok, there are many good scientists out there, but name one who can guarantee a 100% assurance on anything, say, dare to claim that there won't be a piece of her/his hair should drop from his head in the next minutes. Human can only work in a range of 0%x100%, never touches the extreme points, no matter how good she/he is. This is one reason why I believe in God. If there is no God, what's the point of doing good to others? Fear of the law? Hell, I can do some tricks here and there, just to avoid the law, and I believe many of /. ers are even more capable of doing so. Why some people born rich, while others wish they have never been existed at all. Just some random events you say? No, I won't buy that. Now, can God existence answers that? Yes it can. Well, I don't know much about mother Theresa, but I never have believed that she provides a place for poor people just to die. That's not a very wise accusation. ~ a good thing of being stubborn, you have noone to blame

    "He started it" carries a lot of weight when Western civilization is at stake. This very same reason was what Hitler could have give you as an answer why he did all of those in the first place. If I'm not mistaken, what drove Hitler was his country post war condition. Not that I sympathize with Hitler or anything. But if we do bad things in return of bad things that other did, what do we have in differ from those who did first? Timing and initiative?
