I believe this cheat can be done without hacking the binary. You just set up a proxy which modifies the data. I don't think your idea solves this problem.

I think you missed his point.
The code sample was meant to show that some people will find excuses to use C++ features when the C equivalent works perfectly well. *HOPEFULLY* this won't happen in linux.
amightywind wasn't bashing C++ in general, only in the context of embedded dev. I think they made this perfectly clear in the first 2 lines.
I'd say they do blame the vendor, but the current state is that C++ in not good for embedded dev. If you can't get a good C++ compiler for the platform, then C++ is not a good choice of language. This has no direct reflection on C++ as a language.
So get it right, will you?!? The author said "school is a religion", not "school has too much Christianity".
..and the post you originally replied to simply stated an opinion that school would be better without religion. They never stated or implied that the author of the book said this, which appears to be what you are arguing.
Another benefit is you don't get feature bloat in the main app.
My hope is that the GNOME people consider this as an alternative to hiding options so that the user isnt overwhelmed. They could just shift chunks of functionality into extensions (eg non-spacial browsing) that interested people could choose to install.
That used to be the case in Australia, but not long after Word 97 came out, Legal offices started switching to it. WordPerfect is pretty much dead here now.
Whoever wrote this article and the previous one about it on slashdot is a moron.
No one in this article or the other one actually said that C is dead. This is another case of a quote being taken out of context.
The original quote was "To me C is dead." which has a very different meaning.
Does anyone else here work with people who leave their phone on their desk with vibrate turned on and then go out to lunch?
*beep* *grind* *beep* *grind* *beep* *grind* *pause* BEEP BEEP BEEP
repeat.
I had pretty much the same problem with an HP scanner. It seems that scanner drivers dont follow the same rules as those for other devices.
Based on that, I nominate the image of a nurse or French maid.

Don't forget Tetris!
THANK YOU. If I could/knew how to mod you up, I would.
Yeah that's how I learned Kung Fu.
I'm glad you didn't say lap top.

How does this differ from call centers where someone pretends to be from several companies?
