So he hasn't been the second richest man in the world for 3 years now? Wow- we should dismiss his comments outright then.

This guy made all his money investing- he never produced a thing. I hate to say it- but we should really listen to someone like this. He know how to read markets.

How is that for content filtering?

Nor is the interface information commercially sensitive. Engineers are not asking for the computer code that drives the interfaces, merely for the means to talk to them.

I can certainly understand why the companies would not be so willing to submit to this request. This sort of request would not be handled by some $10/hr tech support weenie in Bangelor. This would need the attention of perhaps a system archetect, possibly an ASIC/HW designer- or software engineer. These people's time is very valuable and limited.

As one of the above- I would certainly not want every customer with a request to suck my valuable time away. That is what Slashdot is for.

What they failed to mention was that they never did the critical updates that would have prevented this. Way to go guys. I guess it is all about how you report it.

Perhaps it is possible- why not stick "This article brought to you by Pepsi Cola- the choice of the next generation"- right at the top with the author.

Maybe good of it will come. Imagine- the next big tsunami like disaster hits- and multinational rush in trying to out do each other for global recognition. Now that would be progress.

It is like the old Nazi Germany saying-- when they came for the Jews, I didn't speak up. When they came for the Cathlics, I didn't speak up. When they came for me- no one was left to speak up.

We can't sit back and wait until this one affects us personally. We need to speak up.

Lets look at packaging. Milk bottles- you used to buy them and leave them out for the milkman. He would fill them and return them to you with the milk. Now, the bottle is so cheap it is included in the cost of the milk.

Software is now easier to produce so college kids can get together and generate/maintain an OS like linux. It is thrown in with the cost of support when you buy from a company like Red Hat. Economics are just playing out here.
