The president (any president of any country with enough power to do something about this) will want to have certainty before taking the risk of being labeled the greatest hero or the greatest fool in history. And I am not even taking international politics into account.
Fear not! In the year 2029, Emperor Bush will decimate that freedom-hating asteroid!
Not only that, the first slide in the show (ipod batteries) says "Ten Cool Gadgets You Can't Buy", when clearly, there are only 5 in the slide show....
I'd have to agree - I, Robot wasn't like the short stories exactly, but the filmmakers proved to me that they got the "point" of the three laws - they just modernized things and action-ed up the plot a bit, cuz that's what hollywood does.
As far as doom goes, why even make a movie? it's a ridculous plot that only serves to set up a game where you can use all kinds of cool weapons against hellish beings from a different dimension.
If they don't have Hell, or demons, or Mars, I at least hope they have exploding barrels. Even on a budget you can make exploding barrels!
this is slashdot - you guys forget to take your sarcasmo meds today?
Ever since the Gore claim to have "invented" the internet
Notice the quotes around "invented" - the poster quite obviously knows what we all have known for a long time, and you're not all smarter for jumping on him....
Today someone in my office told me she had a friend who wanted to develop some kind of casino-style video game (this friend was not a programmer themselves, but a business person).
My co-worker asked me if I could do it. Did I mention that I'm the network administrator for my office?
This is why the IT job market sucks. To the masses, there aren't programmers or techs or sysadmins - we're all just Computer People.
Maybe you should expand your horizons beyond the top 40 then. There's plenty of good music out there, almost always has been.
Heeeeellllooo! If it's in the top 40, then by definition it's the best there is to offer! And anyone not willing to shell out the cash to get on the top 40 doesn't truly love their music, so it's not worth listening to.
I called "bullshit" on it for about 9 months for the same reason you do now. There are boobs, they charge money - you can't get a more simplistic definition of porn than "Boobs For Profit".
My girlfriend is still a member - not a model, mind you, but a paying member, and has been for over a year now. I finally gave in and tried to see her point of view on what I considered a run-of-the-mill women-objectifying porn site. This girl considers herself a feminist, and swears that she feels like SG is a site which allows women to be open and artistic and just be themselves without holding back. There is a new generation of feminists out there right now that aren't the bra-burners of the 60's. These women believe they shouldn't have to dress like a man to get equal respect - they want to be sexy and respected.
That's kind of the premise behind SG I think. These women basically say, "Hey, I'm going to show you my tits, not because you are paying for it and you are telling me to, but because I'm strong and I love myself and I love my body".
So my GF is a member, and I don't get on her case about it any more. It's a place where she can talk to other women, and sure there are jackasses on there, but there are always going to be jackasses. It's the internet. And SG has a lot of other aspects to it that I personally like - most of all their interviews - they interview some really interesting people (http://suicidegirls.com/words/).
Anyway, I thought Nintendo was ready to break out of their strictly younger market and try to appeal to a mature crowd once in a while? Why spend all kinds of time and money in advertising trying to get Metroid and Zelda to be household names, and then try to restrict what people can actually write those words?
I've experienced the same blockage with non-techy friends and bit-torrent. I noticed that bannedmusic.org has some kind of bittorrent wrapper that is supposed to make bit torrent easier to use...
My vote would be for Unreal Tournament 2004. UT2k4 takes the best of tournament style multiplayer and adds to it. It doesn't have the beauty of Doom 3's graphics, but it's fast and it's fun....
Why is it that to enjoy this game I feel like I have to do a bunch of work? Once I spent enough time tweaking the game to make it playable, I quickly found out the gameplay was about the same as watching a very slow movie with no dialog in it.
You could start by telling them that 90% of what they see on TV related to IT is fantasy, for example "hackers" != "criminal hackers".
Of course, at 9 years old, by the time these kids are out of college, they will be looking at jobs as some kind of robot administrator, so maybe the Three Laws would be more appropriate....
I've almost begun purchasing Linksys routers for my friends and family. At $40 a piece it's just ignorant not to have one.
I feel ya. I bought one for my GF - for $40 I got her a Belkin with wireless. Now I don't have to worry about protecting her machine, and as a bonus if I bring my laptop over, I can hop on the Wifi. We let the girl in the neighboring apartment get on the wifi as well, so for $40 and 10 minutes of install time, we're all happy....
I think he should have said "Firefox 1.0 will surely leave you shaking on your already shaking foundations of shakiness, shaking in the shaky puddle of a warm vanilla shake that spilled on the ground because you are shaking so much." But then again, I'm a fan of inappropriate repetition.

I didn't know people still played this, but then again, I haven't RP'ed since TSR was still TSR...

Okay, the screenshots published by Atari and AMD were deceptive, but they have now removed those too.
Are you sure they removed them? Maybe you can't see them because you don't have a 64-bit CPU...

They say they migrated to Windows Server 2003 two years ago. Unless they were running an early beta, I have a hard time believing that.
Cool, I'm going to apply for a job at this place, cuz on my resume I have 5 years of Windows 2003 experience....

I used this article: Slipstreaming Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) as a guideline to create my slipstreamed CD. Easy to follow.
Its in your head, and it can't be checked at the door.

I haven't tried them personally, but InstantSSL has certificates for much less than Verisign/Thawte.
