I wouldn't feel too bad man. I've been playing FPSs for more than six years and I'm really awesome at Quake 3. But I know when I go this year... someone is going to make me feel like a n00b and it's really going to hurt my pride. It's happened before and it'll happen again. The best thing is just to try. I know that might sound kind of stupid, because you've heard it from everyone all of your life, but trust me -- it actually works.
I just hope they have some high security punk buster going though, because I don't want to face anyone with cheats. That's probably the only downer to BYOC.
No. Did you even read the press release? They said this will be the first time anyone has had the chance to play Doom 3. And that crappy beta leak doesn't count. If it came out a few weeks before Quake Con, don't you think that a lot of people would be playing it before the tournament?
Doom 3's release date is still the same. It'll come out when it's finally finished. That's how idSoftware was with everything else and that's how they will always be. There are actually rumors saying it will come out in August, but no one at id has confirmed it... so we'll never know.
You know how idSoftware is. They like to surprise the world. Maybe they just meant that it won't have online multiplayer but has the ability to LAN? That's what the other Dooms have anyhow.
Hmm. Well, I spilt Pepsi all over my laptop keyboard, but I was quick to grab my can of compressed air and spray it clean -- keeping the mother board safe. It was weird though... I think the compressed air froze the keys. Instead of sticking, I couldn't even press them down. I replaced the keyboard though and the laptop works perfect.
My worst accident though... would probably be when I installed two Linux operating systems on a computer (with windows also) and accidently mounted over a primary partition. It sucked ass.
Who the hell is Chad Moore? Our assistant manager was named Erica and she just recently quit. I was only being honest when I said I'd hit him with my broom. Damn horrible Slashdot mods...
If I would have been working door (the ushers) the night one of our projectionists spotted him, I probably would have beat him senseless with my broom. Heh, maybe that's just how we handle things at Mount Berry Square Theaters...
Just whatever catches my eye -- and a lot of things do. Wired, PC World, Animerica, Newtype USA, Star Wars Insider, Linux World, Linux Journal, Java Development Journal (free subscription), Oracle (another free subscription), Shonen Jump, 2600 Magazine, Phrack Magazine (=P), GameStar, Nintendo Power, and a few others... hah.
I guess so. Despite how much I'd really like to use this phone, I'm happy with my laptop+wifi card and my Motorola V400 cellphone. It all works out in the end!
No. I think you just didn't read what I had to say correctly.
I'll put it in small terms. I like the idea of what they are doing, but I don't think it's anything compared to what idSoftware has done. I know that they didn't do this... And yes. The first Wolfenstein was a side scroller... Wolf3D and RtCW innovated that by making it an FPS. John Carmack is still a genius nonetheless. Which do you think would be harder to make? Once again, props to the crew that made this... but other than fellow programmers, there's no real audience for the game because it's already been done -- a lot better, at that.
Or any Microsoft software... After all, the first thing you'd probably want with all of that information is stability. Something that doesn't crash when moved and copied. =P
It just goes to show how lazy the people of America are. Picking user-friendliness over everything else.
Honstly, I don't see a point for this operating system, if you're going to use a monitor. It makes no sense to have it displayed on a CRT or LCD monitor. It'd make more sense if it were for newer computers that came with projecters as monitors... but a standard monitor? Waste of time if you ask me. I mean... the monitor is flat nonetheless. There's no way the OS can actually have depth. Even though we have a lot of 3D games that run great, it's nowhere near the same. Windows are going to interfere with each other. Maybe if we just kept the OS the same and built in some kind of window-manipulation powers, as to where we could peel the windows back, drag them around and resize them better, etc, then it wouldn't pose such a problem.
I work at the movie theaters, so my schedule was suppose to be from 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM... but my manager let me off early because he knew I wanted to watch the movie. It was pretty crazy once 12:00 hit (Yes, we had a 12:00 show. Not a preview.) As I removed the tensile barriers, shouted "Spiderman 2!", pointed at House #3, and ran -- a lot of people chased after me to the theater. It was pretty intense. Thank God for employee benefits... including not having to pay for a single movie. w00t.
Great job for the crew that did this, but idSoftware did it a hell of a lot better with creation of Wolfenstein 3D. With the current creations of the assortment of Return to Castle Wolfestein titles, I believe we all owe ID a huge favor. *bows to John Carmack*
Yeah, this is very true. It may not cost anything for the user to replace the entire computer, but it costs the manufacturers a pretty good bit. It's always easier to fix what is actually wrong with the computer than to just replace the entire thing. (Spend $200 over $1,200) And besides, I don't know about you all, but when I get a computer... it becomes more than just a piece of hardware to me, it's apart of me. It's my friend. I'd rather fix my friend than completely replace it.
Yeah, even though I don't dislike HP products, they do use a large amount of memory. The driver disk for my HP Scanner installs a lot of software (without asking me if I want to or not) to my computer, which equals about six gigs. It's pretty obnoxious.
Hah, the entire time I was reading that news article, I was scanning for my Compaq laptop model. I was glad it wasn't on there. lol. w00t.
I really believe the idea of how robots are going to one day be our friend, but in that sense, I figured they'd look more like us. The photos from that post looks like nothing I'd ever have as a friend. Maybe it could be a friend to some lonely kid in a mental institution...
Christ. I know this post is offtopic also, but what is the deal and all of these people bashing FreeBSD. I mean... if it's actually dead, new updates wouldn't be coming out, would they? You do know that FreeBSD 4.10 was released recently, don't you? I'm going to be throwing together a computer this summer just for installing FreeBSD on. As long as software has some users and continues to be updated, it's not dead. Hell, Windows 95 isn't even dead yet... it may not be updated any more, but a lot of people still use it.
It's pretty obvious, and the Slashdot post mentioned it also -- to get more developers. The Windows operating system is unique, in sense that it is very user-friendly and everyone's software runs on it. The reason why Microsoft does not port software to other operating systems is common sense -- Windows is nothing without the software that it has, but that rule applies to any other operating systems as well. That's why Microsoft gives away development tools, because they want people to develop code under Microsoft's name... and this is no different. When people take Microsoft's opened source code and change it around, they are only helping Microsoft's opened source code and Microsoft themselves. It's not really about Microsoft making more money directly, but they will get more developers once everyone starts seeing their technique of programming and that will get them money in the long run.
Yeah, and for once, we know that a company is actually going to try to help the people. Unlike Microsoft... But don't get me wrong -- I'll be very happy once they upgrade, because I use hotmail, but you know how Microsoft is... getting their fingers in on everything. Oh well though, no disrespect, they have to follow the lead like everyone else, or no one will use hotmail anymore.

Yes, but why the hell would we want an OS more lifelike? There's no reason for it.
I guess so. Despite how much I'd really like to use this phone, I'm happy with my laptop+wifi card and my Motorola V400 cellphone. It all works out in the end!
I think he just doesn't want to put on a shirt... you know? I'm pretty sure he knows how. It's just... hot and all.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, but it's not like PlanMaker beats it overall. It's only an Excel-spreadsheet clone... it doesn't do pure word processing

Masters of Doom. Read it.

Doom. Doom was orignally designed to run on an Apple II. Quake was also originally on a Mac. And Wolfenstein 3D.

Yeah, my Firefox window was resizing also... but then again, so was my brain. Very impressive flash intro. I can't wait until September 17th!
