They are going to try to work on a standard that is going to allow a straight upload of movies and videos just as easy as text? Think about it... the piracy risk is going to be too high. I know I probably haven't looked too in depth about this topic, but from just the article that I've read, I can say that this idea is not heading in the right direction. Especially when the MPAA and RIAA have knowledge about it.
Or certain people who save all of their e-mail as POP3 drafts, reformat their computer, and find out that everything that they had has been erased. =/ Not me though... just people I know. Hah.
If you're referring to Open Office vs. MS Office, then you should know that they are both official. But personally, I think I would take Open Office over MS Office. It's cheaper (and no, you don't just pay $150, you have to actually buy a license to distribute the software, which can range anywhere from $1,000 to $100,000+) as Open Office is nowhere near that expensive and just for the fact that it's just as easy to use, the features are pretty much the same, and to be blunt.. you don't have to deal with the obnoxious help buddies. I know you can disable those, but still, they are annoying.
Not to break up your strong (and correct) point, but Adobe and Microsoft do compete from time to time. Example: Dreamweaver (since it is owned by Adobe now) versus FrontPage -- They compete pretty hard. Besides this, an older version of MS Office did offer a graphics editing program that was far greater than MS Paint, but of course Photoshop knocked it out of the water.
I'm not trying to be a troll here, but aren't we a little late with that? Or is it just a celebration thing and they are recelebrating their good deeds?
And I take it you'd manually look up road directions on a map and use MapQuest for a little text based directions as well? And you must not mind a lot of ads with your free webbased e-mail. I understand that people have a choice of what they want, but you can't honestly say that Yahoo is an alternative to Google right now.
Either that, or that someone finds a way to log right into the computer containing the log files (either Google's or a user's personal computer) to read what everyone has searched for. This could be used in a curious manner to see what people like to look for, for blackmail (aka a husband with two kids searching for porn), or just for illegal methods of advertising.
Why not just branch off the kernel into two major projects? I know this would probably be time consuming and would require a ton of work, but I think it might just be a great idea. They could continue work on the standard kernel, keeping it stable and flexible... since that is what made Linux so mainsteam (as it is of now). And with the second kernel, they could improve that, since it will be based on the first kernel, and work on that to compete with Apple's Mac OS and Microsoft Windows. I know it's a long shot, but companies like Novell are already on top of things like this... but mainly just distro-wise. But if they would just focus on a seperate kernel for this, I think they would be a lot better off... and they could leave a lot out of the first kernel, making it more stable than ever (no games, audio, etc.)
I know it's probably a nerd's dream (just as combining the Xbox, GameCube, and PS2 is) but hell, it's worth a shot nonetheless.
The B&N Monopoly! Not really though.

Well, I work at the local Barnes and Noble (the only B&N in the world to have an EB Games on the same strip (since as you may not know, Barnes and Noble owns GameStop) and now well, it doesn't really matter that they don't have GameStop near them. Hmm, I wonder if I get discounts at EB Games now... even though I sort of did before, through connections and friends. This is very interesting though.
I don't know why I didn't really see this coming, but I am totally shocked. It could be that I don't keep up to date with these two companies as I used to (and should still), but this really shocked me and made my jaw drop to the floor.
Personally, whether this is good or bad only time will tell. I don't know how they are going to work out certain software deals yet, because as you know Macromedia's main graphics program (and a very good one at that) is Fireworks MX and it's tightly intergrated into Dreamweaver MX, but now we have Photoshop into that deal (which most developers used over Fireworks anyway) so now we have two good graphics editing programs back to back from the same company... my biggest fear is using the better one in this situation, which would be Photoshop and getting rid of the one that lacks, Fireworks:(. I'd love to have them both still, but I don't really see that happening.
Other than this, it seems like it'd be a great thing for the world.
Exactly. But I also think that they should only be able to maintain their website in prison if they were jailed after the creation of this site. Hince, they wouldn't have to shutdown an online site or business. I do not think that they should be allowed to create their own site while in jail, unless they had a really good reason... like in Adrian Lamo's case, the Free Lamo site or anything similar.
I've had a few small problems for my desktop's CD-ROM drives... at times, they just seem to not want to read any CDs at all. I'll pop a disk in, wait a bit, and go to My Computer, where it says there is no disk in the tray. I've tried several cleaning methods and nothing worked. I even popped in a Linux Live CD to see if it would load it when I restarted (in the event of a bad driver error) and it did not. But luckily standard drives are no where near as expensive as they used to be (I wonder why) so it's not that difficult and priceful to purchase and install a new one.
I have had some pretty bad luck with Apex DVD players though. The one in my room right now, which is less than a year old, tends to make almost any DVD I play in it go from normal (kinda bright) to really dark constantly during play. I don't really understand it, but it's very annoying. And the Apex DVD player in our living room tends to play half the movie in color and then automatically switch to black and white out of nowhere. It also has some problems playing certain DVDs.
Hmm. I'd like to know who the idiot was that modded my post down. I was being serious and saying that Germany has great hackers because the majority of big business cracks come from Germans that just love some source code.
They are right. Open Source doesn't always mean that the product is free... it just means that the source code and probably a version of the software is free. But depending on the license, they can always make a version to profit off of and still release the source code... because not everyone on Earth knows how to take that source code and compile it into the actual software. Plus, they won't have everything to make the software's GUI run the same anyhow.
Take Solaris for example... it's open-source, but the entire OS isn't exactly free.
I don't see why Adobe is making a new name for something that isn't even that much of an upgrade. I understand the price of the upgrade, after all what they have included is very beneficial, but I don't understand why they couldn't just have a patch that people could either download or order to have on a CD. They could still charge the same amount and wouldn't have to worry about changing names from CS to CS2. I think it'd be a lot easier than just making an entire new box set and having a brand new piece of software out on the market. This is just my opinion though.

Not technically, but if you keep whatever you rented for over two weeks, you're going to have to buy it. If you choose not to, you're not going to be able to rent anything again.
"The only thing Nintendo has is the handheld market"
Umm. No. Take a big look at life and you'll see that Nintendo also has a next gen console that's still in 2nd place sales (behind the PS2, of course, but the PS2 came out a year and a half before the GameCube). Also, if you are up to date in news, you'll see that Nintendo has a new next gen console coming up, codenamed the Revolution.
And who's to say that the Gameboy Advance and the Nintendo DS are doing bad? They are doing excellent in terms of sales and games. They both are slam packed full of great titles and are selling great. Plus, whoever said anything about Nintendo being bad at marketing must not remember when it was Nintendo that first dropped their console prices, almost tripling their sales.
Well, I'm sorry, but websites are not designed and created to have an optimal view on a 240x320 resolution -- they are meant for 800x600 and 1024x768 -- today's standard computer resolutions. If your phone cannot display every aspect of the website then maybe you should try (depending on the site) a non flash version, or maybe just an alternative site (if you were viewing for something you could get elsewhere such as news or games).
I'm not really aware to all of the things that go on there... but 3rd degree felony charges for something as simple as this? I might could understand a certain charge for it, but not this -- this is absurd. Well, they better hope they can spread the news of this, because I don't think everyone will just automatically know this is going to happen. Not everyone reads Slashdot... even though they should. Hah. =P
I have a 250 CD binder that I call my black book. It's known throughout the area to contain a lot of... let's say stuff. Hah. It's almost full of CDs that I've bought in spindles. Other than that, I have other CD binders that hold other things... such as one that holds backed up DVDs, and another that holds caseless games and music CDs. I can hold 20 CDs inside jewel cases above my monitor on my desk. And for the other games and such in cases, I have this big turning rack that I'd say can hold about 400 CDs -- it's really nice. But I do feel you in having a ton of CDs... I'm just pretty organized about it surprisingly.
