One feature of this was vehicle location, direction and speed were also sent, so although they would 'never' use said information, it was an easy extrapolation to speeding tickets.

Now compare said Chevelle w/today's Z06 'vette. Little 'wimpy' vette has just a 5.7L, but kicks the snot outta the Chevelle in performance. IBM, and other marketing 'geniuses', need to name their products to entice the 'mine is bigger' crowd. Right now, in the consumer computer realm, GHz talks. Although this does not belong here either, I feel obliged to refute your feeble-minded and limp-wristed rant. If YOU had any belief in the effluvium you spew you would not hide behind AC. In response: #1 - Although outlawing firearms MAY lower gun-related homocides, it would not eliminate them. It would give all wanton criminals a distinct advantage, though. If your little mind can handle an analogy just look at drugs - illegal, yet rampant (and a massive waste of enforcement $) #2 - Must be an interesting city you find these people. 18 waffles for breakfast AND 5 BK stops? My entire family doesn't eat that much. Most linemen don't eat that much. #3 - How does 'cheese-eating surrender monkey' sound to you? And, the majority of ignoramuses use 'fuckhead' for witty retorts. And most Americans care about CONTENT of messages, not sentence structure (I LOVE dangling participles) #4 - I must, sadly, profess a lack of knowledge of the French - other than Paris having a cat-shit problem. I must have gotten the advanced education. I must remove all knowledge that Mandrake is a French company - no wait, in France, right? I must also block all information I have on the fact that the British AND French were as culpable as the COlonials in the mistreatment and subjugation of Native American populaces. #5 - Actually, the fact that undesirable factions are allowed to speak is the basic tenet of 'freedom of speech'. No country should EVER stop someone from speaking their mind. If someone wishes to listen to the KKK, Black Panthers, or even (shudder) a Frenchmen, GOOD FOR THEM!!! I find nonsensical your assertion that we Americans like what the goverment has been allowing. Perhaps it is you that is too xenophobic #6 - How do inferior products and litgation tie together? I find this another spurious assertion. American over-litigation comes from the 'get rich quick' credo. You like the word 'ass' don't you? #7 - To use your own petard, how does go about 'whinging'? Is it good for cardio? And most Americans prefer drink over shrink. #8 - Let's get this straight: gun->Clint Eastwood movie; cheeseburger->Rocky; Friends has a box set? Ohmigod!! 17. Re:Who gives a fuck about CD's? on Recording Industry Hopes To Hinder CD Burning · · Score: 1

The only thing that need be dead of the current CD-Audio is the quality. I believe there should be 2 markets (like cassette/CD of yesteryear). The online formats are all sonically inferior to the CD, which is actually sonically inferior (pops and cracks ignored) than vinyl. What is needed is a portable medium no larger than 5.25" CD format that allows the original sound to be duplicated EXACTLY (SACD and DVD-Audio supposedly do this by I cannot verify). $1 mp3s are no value IMO - even an entire album for $10! Since the industry does not have to pay S&H,cover art, production (physical) costs or storage fees, this is by far a better profit for them AND and lower-quality for us. And since the downloaded content is often 'burned' to a CD the medium is still valid. The truly DEAD medium is tape - mp3 is sonically better and can be transferred to a smaller medium than tape (USB keys anyone?). It's time to start skimming the gene pool.

  18. Innovation vs. Replication on Sun Says Hardware Will Be Free · · Score: 2, Interesting

There will be attempts, like Sun and MS, to have subscription-based apps and supplied hardware. The hardware and software will be succeeding edge, not leading edge. I see this as the path for businesses mostly, and some home users that get their internet bundled w/apps and a free (or cheap computer). Since most businesses today are concerned about cost over benefit if their hardware upgrades happen from and are supported by their app vendors then most of their apparent IT infrastructure (OS/app/hdwe support) will be hidden in the vendor costs. A second tier will be the innovators - businesses that create new technology (and their disciples) to be eventually passed to the masses. A third tier will be the disruptors, who will not abide by forced upgrades and constant payment schedules. This tier is most likely the home of most Open Source projects (with some in the innovators group), IMO (I am not humble!!!).

What you are missing is the personal use of PUBLIC information. Radio and TV are both public spectrum. I buy or build a device to read this information and I am perfectly legal. The VCR is a find example of this. If I am not home to watch a program I can record it, play it back, rip out the parts I want to watch again, and even skip parts I do not want (commercials, D. Franz's naked butt). Radio is the same way. If my local station has the top 20 every night @ midnight and I wish to sleep then, it is absolutely legal for me to record it and play it back later. Maybe I want to move it to my laptop for viewing on my plane flight. If the RIAA and MPAA get their way, only their approved devices (which may disallow ad skipping) and their approved methods can be used. Only if I try to sell it to someone else/broadcast it to my local city should I be considered a convict. It has nothing to do w/purchasing something.
