I suspect the problem is there isn't anything really illegal about it, it's just unethical from the EFF's point of view.
Unfortunately for them, ethics is something subjective and large corporations generally don't have.

All they can do is try and raise outrage on the consumer/government level and hope it's enough to get Google to change.

Of course he doesn't think the internet is important -- he's never had to look for a job in the 21st Century and most of his friends likely don't use the Internet beyond email and Facebook.

  15. Re:Pickup buyers are the problem on Tesla Will Reveal Its Electric Semi Truck in September (techcrunch.com) · · Score: 1

I'd buy an EV pickup in a heartbeat. My daily driver is a pickup and I'd happily replace it with an EV if one was good enough. All sorts of advantages to electrification of a truck. Tons of torque, electric power on tap to run power tools, more cargo space, fuel efficiency, etc. What's not to love? Though I have to admit that in many cases a hybrid pickup might make more sense especially as a work truck.

Yup, you could fit some nice long batteries under the bed of an electric pickup, especially with no exhaust or drive linkage (individual motors on wheels would make four-wheel drive a few lines of code). The "more cargo space" would be even better than that -- you'd get something sorely missing on most pickups: an enclosed locking trunk space like a car has, via the front hood no longer having an engine. Now you have someplace to store more expensive tools.

While piracy has given the appearance of the balance of power being with the latter group, it really never has been. Until our culture and laws change, it never will be.

The problem can be summarized as the government is failing to represent the people in this case. When piracy is so commonplace that most people do not really view it as a crime, then there is a disconnect happening. Laws for civilizations are supposed to reflect common values shared by people of the society, but in this case they are only reflecting the wishes of a few "people" (corporations).

Also, even if Plex can't record, doesn't mean you can't use Plex to enjoy recorded shows.
Plex isn't a torrent client either, but that doesn't stop me from having my torrent client use a folder that Plex has in one of its libraries, so it automatically updates with the listings/metadata of the files the torrent client has independently downloaded.

You could do something similar with a PVR app. All it has to do is name the recordings to reflect the show name and season/episode number so Plex recognizes what the files are.
