I was in a CompUSA store helping my friend pick up a good harddrive and a sales person came over and recommended one of the store branded drives. I read the box and said "It's a Maxtor! No thanks." They looked at me like I just sprouted another head while claiming that a Maxtor has never failed for them.
The sales person probable runs Windows (I woud imagine they seldom use their computer) and if you love your drives you don't let Windows do it's disk grinding at all. The drives that aren't Maxtor I hear of dying do so under Windows.
These are what I use to make the customer happy. Althought I can't stess enough that one should also COMMUNICATE!
I base the previous on a Roman Catholic premise (no, I am not a christian). What is Hell? Well if that's a little vague to answer then let us ask "What is purgatory?". Well Dictionary.com says:
purgatory n 1: a temporary condition of torment or suffering; "a purgatory of drug abuse" 2: (theology) in Roman Catholic theology the place where those who have died in a state of grace undergo limited torment to expiate their sins
So what is the difference between Hell and Purgatory? Knowing! If you know you are in Purgatory then you know it will end.
Now in Hell I don't think you would be told where you were. You would not know. That is what Hell is, not knowing!
So let 'em know! Be Dependable. Be timely. And for the love of the customer be like Horton the Elephant who "Says what he does and does what he says".
You don't have to hear a Who or lay an egg, those activities are optional.
Steve Jobs will become ever more despotic as the years sail on aboard the MacOSX86. I guess we'll hear plenty of rumours and perhaps some vague, veiled threats to abandon Intel for AMD. Perhaps their high end servers will be Opterons.
During this time quantum computing will be in rapid development and ever viable.
Enter Steve Wozniak. He will write a fresh new OS for new Macs. To keep it under Apple's domain his software is bought and he rejoins the company activley.
When Wozniak becomes CEO/iCEO he will soon discontinue developemnt on OS X and brutaly shift to a Slicker, Shinier, scans your fingerprints from the keyboard as you log in to better serve you needs as the USER. This change will most likey be preceeded by a shift in computer architecture. Like when Apple moved to these so called "New World ", versus "Old World" Macs.
This will crush some Mac users who love their OS very much.
I remember it from System 6. Macinstoh System 6.0.8 to be exact. Man! What an upgrade 7.1 was! I had it all tricked out like OS 8.5 on a Macintosh II (68030/50 upgrade).
Although it operated much the same in this aspect you could hold down the option (alt) key and the window you were leaving closed as the new window opened.
Xerox Corp. had one of the first on their DocuTech production copiers. It needed a special mouse pad to move the cursor and there was a touch you had to have to make it move well.
But Microsoft is not a hardware company. There are manufacturers that make the stuff they brand. Microsoft doesn't innovate. They copy and call it innovation.
The radio waves are the property of the public. That's right! Every GOD fearing American citizen has a inalienable right to the air waves a part of a Public Trust.
You know, like PBS.
We the People, in order to create a more informative and musical radio, should support our local independant radio stations.
And with devices that can play mp3s and broadcast it (low power) to you car radio
We should set little pirate stations that can barely reach outside... Oh wait, Wouldn't that be HAM?
Thats the only reason. Rumsfield (that Ogre) and a whole bunch of Republican cronies have been itching for years to invade Iraq. If Bill Clinton didn't deny them we wouldn't have W as president.
BTW: didn't you catch W's speach "Al Qaeda are coming up with new ways to harm the citizens of the US, and so are we."
This administration scares me worse than the heebe jeebies.
Back when I ran Mac OS 8.6 on a StarMax 180mt I had two 4.5 gb UWscsi drive with the scratch disk portion stripped and I was IMPRESSED. Photoshop twirl filter went from 1 minute to 20 seconds!
Yowsa! I would seriously consider going striped when I get a PC w/Linux (But as I have a 450mHz G4 PPC that won't happen for year)
I like to think of the pentium line as a frankenstein processor. Where the risc architecture was grafted onto the backend by Intel it seems that AMD designed the addition.
The itanium is a VLIW chip versus CISC and RISC. What this boils down to is that the itanium is a RISC chip that acts like a CISC chip in that it accepts RISC instructions and strings them together into a VeryLongInstructionWord. Then it executes them.
This explanation may be somewhat simple but fits the understanding of basic chip properties to the end user who may only understand that chips are different.
Oh, wait! Where did I here this? Why, at Intel of course!
A long time ago, in a neighbourhood not far removed, Dwelt I, in a little two room apartment. My old, used Macintosh II, sitting on a box, upgraded to 7.0 was learning that one k is 1024 bytes because that's how slow AOL was then.
I agree. Maxtor drives suck.

Say, didn't that onomatopoeia came from a Beatles song?
"So Captian Marvel zapped him right between the eyes. Zzzzzzap! All the children sing; 'Hey, Bungalow Bill what did ya kill? Bungalow Bill.'"

It will soon be a software problem. Produced in India.
It will happen maybe like this?

I would buy one if it booted OS9.
Heck, I'd take two!
It more insidious than that. This article is a dupe!
Just like at Intel.
Intel employees have blue badges. Contractors have green.
Well, back in the day when I drove a two-button mouse I would just chord the buttons for a middle click.
When I got a four-button mouse I had two chords!
I was now a singer-songwriter.
Pandas do indeed have the digestive track of a carnivore. They're bears! They're colon is short, like a carnivore not long, like a herbivour.
Pandas digest bamboo poorly and that is why they wake up and start eating and when they stop it's time for bed.
Cute they are but don't piss them off. I saw this serveral years ago on the Discovery channel.

A quick Google says that Douglas Engelbart invented the mouse and Steve Kirsch of Mouse Systems Corporation invented the optical mouse, not Microsoft.

What? Too soon?"

I have Neuros and you CAN adjust the step for fm/am.

Arrrr!

Indeed! I've been thinking of a CDROM set but my laziness knows no bounds.
na, he says "roooom"

Both the Neuros from Digital Inncovations and the iriver and rio, from some company I cannot remember, support Ogg
Aren't we all using Ogg Vorbis?
I'm NOT paying for OS X!
FreeBSD and the mach kernel and Quartz from Sun. No thanks!
