Actually, according to wikipedia, 1,030 nuclear tests (involving 1,125 devices) have been carried out by the US. These tests covered more or less every type of bomb in all kinds of conditions. I do agree with your point - things don't have to be used over and over again in 'war games' to be regarded as tested. However, I doubt any branch of the millitary would put into service something which hasn't passed a 'live fire' test of some kind.
Sorry - your definition of 'for free' differs from mine. In addition to my TV I require another piece of equipment, which I have to pay for, in order to watch freeview channels. I know it's only £50 but so what? I don't think it's that bizarre. Do you work for some kind of rabid freeview promoting company or something?
I wished he was my MP. Not only did he make a point about the ridiculous scope of the religious hatred bill he also talked about how he wants to actually have a sensible debate about nuclear power.
Actually they're not necessarily aiming for over break even (i.e. more energy out than in) they are aiming for ignition. This is a very different thing - this is the hope that the reaction they create will have enough energy to sustain itself without the laser pumping it.
The size is something of a problem. I don't know how big this one is but the beamlines for Nova (the previous BIG laser) took up the whole of some aircraft hanger sized buildings.

Mylar works amazingly well as growroom wall covering. It would make sense just to buy it by the metre rather than a bunch of survival blankets though...
I never knew about this. My company makes a fair few white box machines for customers- how about I print an instruction leaflet that just says "Plug it in". Do I beat the iMac?
INFINITE disposal cost? Who are these people who argue this? Arguing that it's expensive is one thing arguing it is is infinitly expensive is something very different.
I find it hard to believe that anyone has created a filter which scrubs 100% of coal emissions (C02 included?) - 100% of the particulate stuff maybe.
My old dog used to run off a lot. She got taken to the police station by helpful people.(I used to live in a smallish town)
The police used to feed her, play with her etc.
Obviously after a while this meant that, every time she 'escaped', she made a beeline for the police station often arriving there before we even knew she had left.
There's already some BBC content available to all. I missed the Newsnight debate on nuclear power last night and was pleased to discover that I could stream it off the BBC news site today. It was poor quality video (although the audio was fine) and it was realplayer format but it was nice anyway.
Whatever happened to Crichton? 'Andromeda strain', 'The great train robbery' and a few of his others were badass. I recently read 'Timeline' and 'Prey' and to say there were shit is giving them a generous review. As for his little rant about global warming in 'State of Fear'. Well. Let me put it like this: It's ok to be dangerously uninformed as long as people don't actually listen to you.

Actually, I think there could well be some things still to be learned from above ground H-bomb detonation.

Unless you count freeview we have 5 channels. Yep, 5.
Seriously - if it's expensive enough to worry me and fragile enough not to survive that's a big no-no.
Actually, your common or garden H-bomb considerably exceeds breakeven. Not too useful for power though.
Megabytes of RAM required to run it?

You've been reading too much Michael Crichton.
Wow. You HAVE to do this.

No, it's like a circuit with two resistors in parallel ('cos that's essentially what it is).

Damn you! You just provided Hotmail with their next design idea.

Don't forget the monkey, they've got a monkey too!
I found the books much the same I have to say. They're ok but I found it hard to see what everyone was raving about.
It just continually increases your storage size now - there's a counter on the login page (it's at about 2.2gb).
