>anyway, seriously speaking: what use is testing a processor touted as being a 32-bit compatible 64-bit chip, when _NO_ 64 bit apps were used in testing?!
Maybe because the majority of people who will be buying it will be running a 32bit Operating System, with 32 bit applications.
Unless you think Microsoft is gonna release a 64 bit XP Home anytime soon.
The Athlon64 is a successor to the Athlon XP, not an alternative, so it has to run 32 bit code as fast or faster than an XP, or no one will touch it. Those that want to run it on a server will buy an Opteron instead.
You are aware that Firebird is an Open Source project too, are you not?
One that has been around for a few years...
It's the result of Borland opening it's InterBase code. (And is not related to Borland, since they pretty much opened the code, then abandoned the community)
Not to mention the fact that, at least in NZ and Australia, a flushed toilet doesn't;'drain' as such, it's flushed.....a cistern full of water pushes the existing water down the pipes....
Bali's proximity to Australia makes it an extremely popular tourist destination, and it was a tourist area that was targeted.
You only have to look at proportion of nationalities in the area at the time to see that if they weren't targeting Australians then they were extremely stupid.
Also, as the grandparent post stated, the bombers themselves SAID they were targetting Australians.
I thought this nomination was a little over the top too....
After Bali, there were definitely enough people worried that the government had to do something....
That terrorism reporting phone number was more about letting people feel that they'd done something rather than have them form an angry mob and start lynching the nearest person of 'Middle Eastern Appearance'
VNC absolutely sucks when compared to terminal services (I don't know about Citrix) for doing any real work on a machine...
I don't know how the two compare over 56k, but over 128 - 512kb WAN and VPN connections Terminal services wins every time, it's like you're sitting at the machine, and you never have to refresh the screen to see things that VNC didn't notice happen (Like java apps...ugh)
Of couse ssh wins over all of them, but theres limits to how much administration you can do with ssh on windows
definitely... we've got two 4Sis here, one of which has been here since I joined the company in 96, and we often put a ream of paper a day though it. They work great, and keep on working.
so how is RAR going to help you accelerate serving web pages using mod_gzip?
Also, why on earth do you have.tar there?, tar is not a compressor, it's a container...
And finaly, the use of this card is for compressing web pages. That's plain text of about 5 to 30k. Why on earth are you comparing 730 Meg of binary (and possibly already compressed due to the bad results from everything) to make your point?
Actually, If you look at the design on modern intel chipsets, and compare it with the old Northbridge / Southbridge design that most non Intel chipsets use, then you'll see that there's already quite a step in the right direction.
Is there anyone who actually, really uses the internet for obtaining and swapping recipes???
I'm sure there probably is...but I'm sure it's not to the degree we're led to believe. It's like people want you to think that everyone who doesn't know anything about computers uses them for recipes....
There's lots of educational games around...EB has an entire wall dedicated to them here..
Most of the are based on a cartoon / kids show franchise, but they're still pretty good.
The Blues Clues ones are in particular excellent. My daughter loves them, and I can see how well they've been structured to help the child learn, whilst still being a lot of fun. There's lots of others to choose from too, and more all the time...
It's like an interview with an anti war rally leader I heard recently...he was encouraging people to amount other things, perform acts of 'Civil Disobediance' to get the message across.
Usualy, it's vandalism, trespassing, and Breaking The Law. But in this case, suddenly it's 'Civil Disobediance'
You can't.
The UT2003 they tested was the normal 32 bit version.
And as they said, it already favoured the Athlon XP, and the Athlon64 is very similar to an XP.

Java apps generally have clunky, horrible UIs.
So therefore all Java is bad, even embedded java?
If jaa is so bloated and chunky and slow, how come it's used on so many mobile phones these days?
DoSing Open Source is not fun * "

ok, so someone says "Firbird crashed"
which one was it?
Not to mention the fact that, at least in NZ and Australia, a flushed toilet doesn't ;'drain' as such, it's flushed.....a cistern full of water pushes the existing water down the pipes....
So it doesn't spin at all.
apt-get install firebird
I suspect there's gonna be some confused debian users in the future

The PLAYSTATION2 has no FSAA support. The Xbox sure as hell does
That's right...and you know what?...the XBox FSAA does so little as to be pointless anyway.
Either that or I've not seen a game yet that actually uses it.
PAL and NTSC resolution are too low for it to make enough of a difference, especially on a 68cm or bigger TV.
I know he said TightVNC, but even with the Tight encoding and the JPEG compression you still miss screen updates.
TightVNC works quite well until you try something better, then you just can't go back.

It's ok, it just refuses to install SP1, it doesn't invalidate your product key.

There used to be, when CPUs couldn't handle it...but these days they're just an unecesary expense..
Also, some video cards include mpeg2 decoding

thanks for the clarification :)
yes, that's right, that bit that pretty much translates to "Romeo, why are you here?", not "Romeo, where the hell are you?"

Not even seen, if at all possible ;)
I find it a little disturbing that it only takes one "parent" to "fork" for a "child" to result though....
Yup....

Tell that to the judge.
You know what?
X works fine for me, network transparency or not.....
