In being taught sign language, the deaf community still have adapted ASL (American Sign Language) to their own needs, as it were.
Sign language is unique in the fact that some of the language is what some people would guess, correctly, what it was. Like sticking out your thumb and pinkie and holding up to your ear for "phone".
Speaking from personal experience, and having being taught sign language as my first language, English being second, I find that the deaf and hard of hearing have their own ways of saying things. Personally, I haven't been taught in the "offical" way, but taught by my mother. In that, I find that when you know someone, you often tend to bend the sign to fit what the both of you know.
Of what? Say it! Of Buckyballs. Excuse me for stating the obvious here, but how on God's green earth do you have a super-futuristic technology where data is transmitted through a point at one-trillionth of a second due to something called Buckyballs?
Somewhere, whomever made up the name of this technology is laughing his ass off, as am I.
Well, seeing as how I'm an avid Slashdot reader, use WinXP Pro in my everyday work and personal life, AND have 3 Linux versions sitting in my room somewhere and still don't use them, I can see the grandparents point.
I even have Lindows.
Bottom line, (this has been said more than once before) Windows doesn't neccesarily need command lines for everyday use. Personally, as a former user of WinME, I'm more familiar with the BSOD than any human should endure. I still use Windows.
Although people in my daily work life see me as a "hacker" but compared to people on Slashdot I'm still much of a n00b, it's only because I know enough of my way around Windows to fix all of the problems that pop up.
You think I want to re-learn all the "tricks" of another OS? Unless it's semi-intuitive, no. As much as I'd love to run Linux, I'm simply used to Windows.
I use Direct Connect. www.neo-modus.com. Really a good site. I've never touched Kazaa with a ten-foot pole. Too much false shite.

But that assumes the existence of that unproved afterlife. What if it doesn't exist? What if this life is our only chance and, once it ends, everything is over for us? To refuse to even contemplate this possibility is the Mother Of All Escapisms.
This is true. However, not all religions believe that you need to "be more concerned about what comes after death."
I'd hate to bring this topic from a gaming perspective to a religious perspective outright, but I have studied and practiced a "belief", if you will, that Heaven is here. There is no reason to wait for death in order to be in a sublime state. You've heard of the saying "Everything is God." Well, this applies. Do I have evidence that God exists? No. That the Afterlife exists? No. I believe in the fact that everything I see is God. Of course, I'm not in that "perfect mindset", so I'm still a schmuck sometimes. If you're still interested, "Conversations With God, Book 1" by Neale Donald Walsh.
In any case, I think religion shouldn't be on video games. Anything that can play a game where you can pick up a hooker and blast her head off after the deed is done and then play a game in which you play God must violate some sort of moral values. It's just not right.
Finally, I see a Howard Stern reference. I personally try to listen to Howard Stern on a regular basis and find him quite amusing. Before you find me offtopic, I bring up a radio personality for a reason. The FCC has overstepped it's bounds more than any American should tolerate. The United States constitution states every American should have free speech. Howard Stern is not being allowed that right. That is bullshit. He is an entertainer. If you don't want to listen, feel free to turn the radio dail to some re-packaged pop music by Ms. Tits-Too-Big. Or even turn it off. Ever thought of that, Michael Powell? No. You're too busy squashing a God- and Goverment-given right to say whatever the fuck I want. So you'll take a man off the air, along with many others, because he's "indecent," even though you have no clear description of indecency. Bottom line: Fuck the FCC.
I talked to a pilot about this one time, and he told me this:
Using one cell phone, hypothetically, should do little to no "damage" or interference, because it's one tiny phone compared to a 747. However, having every person in the plane use/turn on their cell phone emitting a signal could really screw things up.
I'm not pressing my luck. I don't like planes that much anyway.
Emigration from Europe to the "New World" was never enough to offset population growth either, but there was a psychological benefit for all, and it certainly gave the restless and discontented somewhere to go instead of stirring up trouble at home.
We could use that again, about now.
Oh, really? So the people whom I will hesitate to call religious nuts who came to the "New World" wasn't to "offset population"? What was it for? To rape, pillage, and infect those who were already here? To steal the land and claim America in the name of the church even though there were already people here?
Forgive me for sounding brash, but this is not a good analogy for space travel/colinization.
The Sci-Fi channel has dissapointed me on many levels, many times. However, knowing that IMO Farscape was one of the best shows on TV EVER only to be cancelled by Sci-Fi, really makes me angry. I'm not obsessed (in the terms of constantly looking at fanfic, fanart, etc) with the show, but whenever I could, I watched the show. Alas, with my schedule not allowing me to see the most recent ones, and then seeing John and Aeryn blown to bits in a rerun for the finale makes me sad. It IS a fantasy show. It serves as an escape for some people. I'll admit when I'm obsessed with a show. I'll admit that growing up on Knight Rider caused me to be obsessed. So I'm obsessed with Farscape (only with the storyline, characters in each show, not in the terms of going to conventions/dressing up as Capt. Kirk--er, Ka D'Argo). In any case, I've gone off on a tangent. All in all, Farscape should be back. Should it be dragged on, with no storyline? No. I find that Sci-Fi Channel has made some pretty stupid moves, but they have made a good one with bringing back Farscape, if only in a mini-series.
So you're saying you're in favor of these illegal practices.
Absolutely not. I am not in favor of either practice. There IS a reason why they made something like 500 BILLION dollars last year, though. Why? because they shaft the employees, and make their products cheap. Once again, I'm glad I just buy there.
Well, as it seems, Wal-Mart has great things for the consumer, but it shafts its employees on a normal basis. i.e.: Hiring illegal immigrants to work for half of the minimum wage (NY), and 'shaving' time off of timesheets. I'm glad I just buy there.
Actually, the old standbys for TV's wasn't necessarily a "standby", per se. TV's were made for the sole use of advertising in the home. Then, when people realized that no one in their right mind would pay for a box just to buy more things it sells, they added shows/programming. The web was made for something a bit different than TVs.

I know "ghetto sign language", as it were.
I like http://whatsnewkhan.ytmnd.com/ a little better. :)
Btw, the moment you choose to configure, the price shoots up to $5,458.00 (which includes ALL rebates)!
Erm, it even says below the price that it is before rebates.
Hmm.
Maybe it's just me.
JESUS Christmas, I have a headache from reading the summary, THEN the explination from the parent. Good lord.
I wish I was joking.
Although, a nice "Quantum Leap" joke here would suffice...
"Imagine... A Beowulf Cluster of....."

A little OT, but I wish DVDs were like 3.5" floppies. I want those little cases that prevented fingerprints and scratches from occuring.
Erm, isn't that DVD-RAM? I understand it's a different format, but the only "cartridge-type" I've seen in DVD terms is DVD-RAM.
No, this isn't done over the internet, but it does exist.
Actually, it does on Movieweb.com. I haven't used it, but it does offer downloading movies as you're watching them. Same as VoD.

I agree with the harddisks, but the freezer? Is that even okay to do?

The article goes on to discuss 'Robonaut' and 'Ranger robot', two machines which can approximate the capabilities of a space-suited astronaut.
Am I the only one who thought of the Power Rangers when reading this? NASA seems to be mixing work with play...
