My first rig is the one I'm on now. Gateway PC delivered 9/10/2001. Shipped with Windows ME. Dear God, I don't know how I lived with it for 6 months. Since then, I've gotten Ram, hard drive, and OS "upgrades".
I've probably re-installed Windows and Linux +30 times on this damn machine.
Actually, whilst at work, I happened to see this (not sure which channel) and was oddly intrigued by the machine. Apparently, the cows used to be milked twice a day, but when they milk themselves, it can be 6 times a day! The tech used was pretty complicated, as well. Lasers guide the "milkers" onto the nipples and it rarely misses it's target. Once connected, it auto-milks, and once done, it immediately unsucks the milkers and releases the cow. Repeat as necessary.
This machine also provides some solace for the bovines, because they can simply walk into the "robot," and they are alone and fed for the length of their milking. Simple.
My question after seeing the show: If the cows are milked more often, did the milk production increase? I assume it must by some level.
Mars is in opposition and we are in the peak of the Orionids meteor shower. There is quite a show going on and its not too cold yet to stay hours laying on the ground.
Says you. It is getting chilly here (Central New York) at night. If I were to stay out with a jacket, I would be freezing in about an hour.
Although, Mars captivates me whenever I gaze at the sky.
From the article: The scientists also said it will take further study to determine whether Alex--who has been the subject of intelligence and communication tests throughout his life--really understands zero.
Zero and none "are not identical," Pepperberg wrote in a recent email. But since Alex never learned "zero," the researchers said, it's impressive that he started using a word he knew to denote something like it: an absence of a quantity.
Also unclear, though, was whether by "none" he meant no colors, no objects or something else.
So, in effect, the bird "knows" of 'none,' not 'Zero,' according to Mr. Pepperberg.
Sorry. Everyone is using Zero as a word to describe what this bird knows, and it's just not the case. Details, people.
Maybe if half of the posts weren't Roland-Bashing, you would have bothered to click on the direct link to the original article. (Don't get me wrong, Roland is a whore.)
Actually, I work a night shift, and my schedule rotates 3 days (nights) on, 3 days off. As you can imagine, figuring out if I have the 3rd Tuesday of next month off can be hell. (Which, incidentally, I do! Thanks, iPod!)
So, yes, some people use the iPod for more than music. Actually, I have iPodAgent, and get/. summaries loaded onto the Notes function of my iPod, and get to get my fix on the go. iPodAgent handles movie times and weather for me as well.
I have iPodLinux installed on my 3G iPod as well, but I rarely use it. If the music bugs were more worked out and it rivaled the UI and/or ease of use of Apple's, then maybe I would use it more. Oh well.
Oh, and one more thing, I extensively used the Photo Import function when on vacation in Florida a few months back. Not being able to load my 256MB CF card onto a computer (I took something like 500 pictures for a week vacation), the iPod helped immensely. Man, what a time and money saver.
Although you seem to be taking it a little more personally than any other sane human being would, I am almost in the same boat that the 7-year old is. I've seen Eps 1-3, but the difference between us?
I HAVE NOT SEEN THE THREE ORIGINAL MOVIES!
Commence fainting, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.
By the way, I plan on seeing the original movies shortly.:)
The only rechargable batteries I've used on a regular basis are the Rayovac 15 Minute Rechargable batteries. 4 AAs in my digital camera, and they work fine. I've not used my camera in months, then went on vacation. Worked for the first 300 pictures. I saw no drainage from this test.
This reminds me of Hyperion, where one (and more) of the characters has a comlog. Basically a computer in your brain. Google something in a blink of an eye. RTFA AND be first post on/. Amazing.
It's what I personally have been waiting for. Although it won't be used the way I'd like it for a very long time, it's good to see steps made toward this technology.
Well, as a fan of Bakula's earlier days of acting (Quantum Leap), I've never actually driven myself to watch Enterprise. Matter of fact, I've heard nothing good about it.
Moving on to my point.
Isn't it a little odd and/or creepy that the show will be cancelled on Friday, the 13th? Hmm. Probably a sick joke.
Actually, I recently installed Podzilla onto my 3G 20GB. I run WinXP, and have 3 Linux distros sitting somewhere in my messy room and have yet to see them all. Unfortunate, yes, but my point is this: As much as I'd like to use even Linspire, I just don't want to bother "making the switch" to the penguin. Even though Windows has it's downfalls. I know close to nothing about any coding whatsoever. In the bugs that I find, I can't just re-write the code because I don't even know how or where to begin. (Yet I'm still "that guy" in a group of friends that fixes the computer.) Yet, I find Podzilla to be just user-friendly enough to use. Recording is uber-sweet.
To some people, that sounds like a "bang-up" idea (pun intended), but to those who know the sport can see that as a bad notion. Even the best people in the world have off days. If it were to make the spectators happy, it's OK, right? Because some awesome racer just died in a fireball of racing fuel, as long as it gets ratings, it's OK?
Erm, am I the only/. user that actively uses Trillian?? I almost never use AIM, MSN messenger, and Y! messenger, but I use Trilly for all of them to talk. ICQ and IRC are available to me as well, but I have no need for them.
Staying ontopic, I'm not suprised that AIM/AOL screwed up. They're not really the most "true-user-friendly" in the business. Bloated software, etc.
That's certainly what it sounds like. In my opinion, if Google Scholar were to get off the ground, I think the "brand recognition" could definitely help people to come to their site, as opposed to Nexis.
From the website: I'm an author. Why would I want my articles in Google Scholar?
Your work likely has great value to a number of people who may not know it exists. By including your articles in Google Scholar, others will be more likely to find them, learn from them, cite them and build on the foundation you have laid.
Sounds like a good way to make yourself known in the writing world. For now, it sounds like a kickass idea. Go Google.
I've probably re-installed Windows and Linux +30 times on this damn machine.
Never get RIMM RAM.
-- I'm 22, and not a coder. :)
Actually, this comment sounds eeriely like the death scene of Devon in one of my favorite movies, Knight Rider 2000.
:)
In the movie, when the character is shot, the doctors "read" his memory (RNA, if I remember correctly) to see what transpired.
(They also found ways to insert clips from the show, but that's another discussion
Maybe Clark and Aquaman can save the day and ruin the evil Navy's plans!
Pfft. Gotta agree with the parent, though.

After skimming TFA, this idea seems all well and good. However, this immediately brought to mind Lego Mindstorms.
Besides, with Legos, you don't have to have power tools. Just your handy dany digits.

Did anyone else glance at the title and think "Cemetary Fireworks Go Off Without a Hitch"?
That would have been hilarious if it happened, though.
I may even write that into my will for my funeral!
Ha!
Would you mind advising if a link if safe for work or not? Now I have to burn our servers! Thanks, buddy!

I'm not that surprised, but Windows was the least secure.
Did you even read the article? Quoted: "The good news is that none of the up-to-date, patched operating systems succumbed to a single attack.
The Windows Service Pack 2, or SP 2, system is the most up-to-date Windows operating system. It received 16 direct attacks."
SP2 is stated as being up-to-date. It's obviously secure.
Is reading articles optional?
Mod me down if you wish, but why is the parent modded funny?
I see no humor in such a tragic loss. I could see the parent modded as Insightful, seeing as how I do agree with kdark.
Note: Far be it from me to cruise for flames, but I had to speak up.

I know that the exchange of information has been teleported, but someday, I'd like to see an actual object teleported within the next twenty years.
Or even a household quantum computer, capable of processing thousands of more spam messages in a blink of an eye! Cool!
Well, I'm fairly sure the universe doesn't follow our standards of measurments.
They're probably measured in metras, or some other sort of standard we know nothing of.
(Sorry, obligatory Farscape reference.)
