    Legalities aside, that can be a pretty nasty hunk of ocean. There will be considerable periods of time when that ship will either be maneuvering to ride out a storm, or going someplace else to avoid a storm. A big share of the year it will need to underway just to provide a reasonable amount of stability.

    When I was in high school, shop classes were there to keep the delinquents occupied so they didn't tear down the school. Yes, there were a few serious students in shop class, but not the majority.

    The right answer might be to make all stock purchases a minimum of 2 years or something, I don't know.



    I think a minimum holding time of 60 days or a 10% change in value, whichever comes first, for shares mutual funds or any other vehicle that represents equity shares, would do the job.

    The "reversible argument" argument fits an observation I have frequently made during the past few years. There is what seems to be a growing category of people that frequently accuse their opposition of doing exactly what they are doing. It is very common in the shallow end of the US right wing gene pool.

    Based on how B&N has reacted to Nook Color "hacks" for many months now, they never will. B&N gets it, the extra flexibility makes their product much more desirable to a significant minority of their customers.
